Book No Place Like Motorhome

Download or read book No Place Like Motorhome written by Lisa Mills and published by Lisa Mills. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: City girls LOVE country boys, right? When a country-loving bachelor gets a rude introduction to a cultured, sophisticated city-girl, they instantly clash. But as they’re thrown together time and again, they realize, their two worlds might not be as far apart as they initially thought. Meet Darcy... As Darcy Granger finishes her graduate degree and looks for employment, her parents make the inexplicable decision to abandon successful careers, lease their New York City apartment, and purchase a motorhome to become "full-timers." As a young adult she should be eager to start her own life, but her wounded inner child mourns that her safety net has been pulled away and there's no nest for her to fly back to. To make the transition easier, her parents invite her to stay with them while she looks for a job as a research librarian. Born and raised in New York City, Darcy struggles to acclimate to the campy lifestyle her parents have adopted. They drag her out on rural excursions where high-heeled shoes dare not go and forms of outdoorsy torture lurk around every bend in the road. Then there's Marc... Marc Fitzsimmons is a twenty-seven-year-old writer who roams the country, pulling a travel trailer behind his pickup truck and penning articles for magazines. He loves living a casual life on the go, seeing new sights and meeting new people at every stop. The career he's chosen feeds his adventurous soul and fills him with satisfaction, but it's definitely made it difficult to date. He’s almost given up the idea of marrying and having children, knowing the odds of finding a woman who wants to share his lifestyle are slim to none. When these two meet on the campground, sparks fly, but as they get to know one another, those sparks ignite a flame in their hearts that is hard to ignore! A lighthearted clean romance novel.

Book excerpt: Buddhism is all about training the mind, and boot camp is an ideal training method for this generation’s short attention span. The chapters in this small book can be read in any order, and are simple and easy to understand. Each story, inspirational quote and teaching offers mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to. You don’t need to be a Buddhist to find this book motivational. As the Dalai Lama says, “Don’t try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.” Whether it’s Mother Teresa’s acts of charity, Gandhi’s perseverance, or your aunt Betty’s calm demeanor, it doesn’t matter who inspires you, so long as you’re motivated to be better today than you were yesterday. Regardless or religion or geographical region, race, ethnicity, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, flexibility, or vulnerability, if you do good, you feel good, and if you do bad, you feel bad. If you agree that Buddhism isn’t just about meditating, but also about rolling up your sleeves and relieving some of the suffering in the world, then you are ready to be a soldier of peace in the army of love; welcome to Buddhist Boot Camp!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Camper Book will captivate all those who dream of waving good-bye to the rat race from the window of their own moveable home, be it a camper, RV, travel trailer, camper van, or tiny camper. Not just for placid retirees anymore, camper culture has sprung up among simplicity-seeking millennials, retro-loving "glampers," sports and movie stars, aging hippies, contract workers, "road-schoolers," and others. Award-winning journalist Dave Hoekstra hit the road in his own custom camper van, named Bluebird, to explore the history, culture, subcultures, and future of camper life. Traveling and talking his way through US campsites, RV parks, landmarks, and communities, Hoekstra draws out revealing stories from all walks of life—from Americans who are downsizing material goods while upsizing spiritual pursuits to RV enthusiasts such as Grammy-winning singer-songwriter John Prine and Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon. A modern-day Studs Terkel, Hoekstra provides a delightful mix of oral history, in-depth reporting, and practical information, while photographer Jon Sall's beautiful color photographs illuminate the unique people, places, and rigs that typify camper life.

Book Adventures with Ruby Slippers

Download or read book Adventures with Ruby Slippers written by McManus and published by . This book was released on 2022-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outside of each RV fifth wheel, travel trailer, and Class A, B, or C bus, sits a variety of items that don't vary all that much. A BBQ grill, fire pit, two collapsible chairs, and a small whimsical flag are standard equipment. But, the optional equipment sets us apart from the animals. Awnings are blanketed with wind chimes and wind spinners and are accented with every conceivable playful light strand. A large carpet and portable cabana expand the living area while, at the same time, marking territory. They're edged with privacy screens, potted plants, bird feeders, solar lighting, tiki torches, and seasonal décor. Pink Flamingos, bless their hearts, are still all the rage. Tacky signs that shouldn't make you laugh but still do, give some idea of how much alcohol will be consumed at that particular RV site. Hammocks, Mexican blankets, and weather-resistant pillows turn outdoor areas into something, perhaps, a little too informal as mid-late-aged owners strut their stuff. But, it's all a good dose of unapologetic flair indicating how long said glamper intends on staying and how much effort they're willing to put into making their home away from home seem like, home. Honestly, it's enough to make the grinch look on, tap his furry fingers and say, "I must stop RVers from coming, but how?"Not unlike Dorothy donning her pair of Ruby Slippers, we entered a strange and quirky world. We would see retirees happily walking cats and pigs on leashes in Florida, and then slide into another parallel universe of eccentricity in Colorado. We even stumbled upon a rude Canadian up North, a rare phenomenon, just short of flying monkeys. And our RV and her oh-so-fragile pieces and parts? I'll just say this; it's a lot easier to load a suitcase onto an airplane and go, free and easy. But where's the fun in that? -C.L. McManus

Book Mad about Trade

Download or read book Mad about Trade written by Daniel T. Griswold and published by Cato Institute. This book was released on 2009 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Politicians and pundits can rage against free trade and globalization, but much of what they convey is myth says the author. He argues that free trade is good for the American family. Among the benefits he discusses are import competition that provides lower prices, greater variety, and better quality, especially for poor and middle class families. Driven in part by trade, most new jobs are well-paying service jobs. Foreign investment here has created well-paying jobs, and investment abroad has given United States companies access to millions of new customers. Trade helped expand the global middle class, reducing poverty and child labor while fueling demand for U.S. products. The author also looks at how the past three decades of an open global economy have created a more prosperous, democratic, and peaceful world.

Book Jenny James Is Not a Disaster

Download or read book Jenny James Is Not a Disaster written by Debbie Johnson and published by Harper Muse. This book was released on 2024-07-09 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's having a bad day . . . and then there's having a Very Bad Day. Thirty-something single mum Jenny James is used to the typical run-in-your-tights, milk-turned-sour, break-a-nail bad kind of day. Attitude from her teenage son? Count on it. Car problems? To be expected. Never quite enough money for monthly expenses? Guaranteed. And then arrives the Very Bad Day--when Jenny finds out her dull but reliable office job is in jeopardy, her car totally and completely breaks down, and she arrives home (on foot) just in time to see her modest-but-cozy cottage sliding off a cliff into the sea. Jenny's life--not to mention her home--has reached its ultimate low point. Estranged from her parents since she became pregnant at age eighteen and set out on her own, Jenny has nowhere to turn when she and her son, Charlie, find themselves without a place to live. Her neighbor, the reclusive but attractive Luke who lives alone with his dog in a surprisingly homey RV, opens up his camper--and his vagabond lifestyle--to Jenny and her son. As the unlikely threesome--four including the dog--hit the road, Jenny finds herself experiencing a new sense of freedom as she reflects on who she was, who she is, and who she could become. Maybe when you fall, you actually find the best way to move forward.
