Book No Forgiveness for People Like You

Download or read book No Forgiveness for People Like You written by Patricia Gossman and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Since taking power on August 15, 2021, Taliban forces in Afghanistan have carried out summary executions and enforced disappearances of former members of the Afghan security forces and civilian government--more than 100 in four provinces alone. [This report] documents the killing or enforced disappearance of 47 former members of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF)--military personnel, police, intelligence service members, and militia forces--who had surrendered to or were apprehended by Taliban forces between August 15 and October 31, 2021.... These abuses have taken place despite the Taliban's announced amnesty for former government civilian and military officials and reassurances from the Taliban leadership that they would hold their forces accountable for violations of the amnesty order. Increasing evidence suggests that such abuses have continued under the orders or with the knowledge of senior Taliban commanders at the district or provincial level."--Page 4 of cover.

  • Release : 2016-04-26
  • ISBN : 1468311859
  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book Forgiveness 4 You written by Ann Bauer and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forgiveness 4 You is a startlingly contemporary novel about faith and religion in an America addicted to quick fixes and instant gratification. Gabriel McKenna is an ex-Catholic priest, and with his quiet job at a quiet bookstore, he is—slowly—rebuilding his life. But even at the bookstore, people from all walks of life find their way to him and feel compelled to share their stories and reveal to him their deepest, guiltiest secrets. One of these people is Madeline Murray, a high-powered advertising executive, who, hours after her weepy confession, has a revelation: If she felt so comforted by this stranger, perhaps there’s something remunerative to his consoling abilities. Madeline has a vision: a business that will offer a secular form of confession and forgiveness—the comforts of religion, without the religion. Without knowing exactly how it happened (and whether any of it is morally sound) Gabriel is transformed by Madeline and her colleagues into the centerpiece of the forgiveness brand. And so a therapeutic revolution unleashes itself on America—or is about to, until a terrible secret threatens to torpedo the business and the man at the middle of it. Which would all be bad enough, were it not for temptation—in the form of Madeline herself. In Forgiveness 4 You, Ann Bauer combines her gift for characterization with a broad American canvas to dazzling effect. Written with verve and confidence, Forgiveness 4 You is an unusually ambitious novel that blends cutting-edge satire with a serious mediation on faith in the twenty-first century.

Book Sufi Civilities

    Book Details:
  • Author : Annika Schmeding
  • Publisher : Stanford University Press
  • Release : 2023-11-28
  • ISBN : 1503637549
  • Pages : 255 pages

Download or read book Sufi Civilities written by Annika Schmeding and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2023-11-28 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite its pervasive reputation as a place of religious extremes and war, Afghanistan has a complex and varied religious landscape where elements from a broad spectrum of religious belief vie for a place in society. It is also one of the birthplaces of a widely practiced variant of Islam: Sufism. Contemporary analysts suggest that Sufism is on the decline due to war and the ideological hardening that results from societies in conflict. However, in Sufi Civilities, Annika Schmeding argues that this is far from a truthful depiction. Members of Sufi communities have worked as resistance fighters, aid workers, business people, actors, professors, and daily workers in creative and ingenious ways to keep and renew their networks of community support. Based on long-term ethnographic field research among multiple Sufi communities in different urban areas of Afghanistan, the book examines navigational strategies employed by Sufi leaders over the past four decades to weather periods of instability and persecution, showing how they adapted to changing conditions in novel ways that crafted Sufism as a force in the civil sphere. This book offers a rare on-the-ground view into how Sufi leaders react to moments of transition within a highly insecure environment, and how humanity shines through the darkness during times of turmoil.

Gorgeous, impulsive and unconventional, she is totally different to all the other girls he knows. His sister, Martha, hates her. Jamie doesn't know why, but there's no way he's going to take any notice of her warnings to stay away from Caro. But as Jamie falls deeper and deeper under her spell, he realises there is more to Caro - much more. There are the times when she disappears and doesn't get in touch, the small scars on her wrists, her talk about revolutions and taking action, not to mention the rumours he hears about the other men in her life. And then always in the background there is Rob, Jamie's older brother, back from Afghanistan and traumatised after having his leg smashed to bits there. Jamie wants to help him, but Rob seems to be living in a world of his own and is increasingly difficult to reach. With Caro, the summer should have been perfect . . . but that isn't how things work out in real life, and Jamie is going to find out the hard way. This taut psychological drama is the brilliant new novel from acclaimed Celia Rees.

Book A Theology of Biblical Counseling

Download or read book A Theology of Biblical Counseling written by Heath Lambert and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of the biblical counseling movement in 1970, biblical counselors have argued that counseling is a ministry of the Word, just like preaching or missions. As a ministry, counseling must be defined according to sound biblical theology rather than secular principles of psychology. For over four decades, biblical theology has been at the core of the biblical counseling movement. Leaders in biblical counseling have emphasized a commitment to teaching doctrine in their counseling courses out of the conviction that good theology leads to good counseling…and bad theology leads to bad counseling. A Theology of Biblical Counseling is a landmark new book that covers the history of the biblical counseling movement, the core convictions that underlie sound counseling, and practical wisdom for counseling today. Dr. Heath Lambert shows how biblical counseling is rooted in the Scriptures while illustrating the real challenges counselors face today through true stories from the counseling room. A substantive textbook written in accessible language, it is an ideal resource for use in training biblical counselors at colleges, seminaries, and training institutes. In each chapter, doctrine comes to life in real ministry to real people, dramatically demonstrating how theology intersects with the lives of actual counselees.

Book Not a Fan Updated and Expanded

Download or read book Not a Fan Updated and Expanded written by Kyle Idleman and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-02-02 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not a Fan has already called more than one million readers to consider the demands and rewards of being a true disciple--moving from fan to follower in their relationship with Jesus. After years of serving God, pastor and bestselling author Kyle Idleman had a startling revelation: for too long, he had been living as a fan of Jesus; someone who tried to make Christianity seem as appealing, comfortable, and convenient as he possibly could to others. Idleman decided something had to change--he needed to embark on the journey of becoming a completely committed follower of God, not just a fan. Fans want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires sacrifice, while followers are all in and completely committed to Christ. Not a Fan gives you the tools you need to determine exactly where you stand when it comes to your relationship with Jesus. No matter where you are in your walk with Christ, Not a Fan calls you to consider the demands and rewards of being a true disciple. With frankness and a touch of humor, Idleman invites you to: Examine your relationship with God Determine if you're following Jesus or just following the rules Pray the way Jesus prayed Start truly living for the one who gave his all for you This expanded and updated version of Not a Fan also includes a new introduction and an entirely new chapter about how to practically live out the book's core message. Join Idleman as he challenges you to take an honest look at your relationship with Jesus and discover what it really means to be a follower.

Book Beyond Forgiveness

  • ISBN : 1543434622

Download or read book Beyond Forgiveness written by Tunde Abednego Samuel and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-08-04 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastor A. T. Samuel, in this book, captured very well one of the major problems ravaging Christian homes, societies, and churches throughout the world today. Those problems are related to the lack of the spirit of forgiveness in the daily interaction among people. It was Alexander Pope, an English poet in the eighteenth century, who said that to err is human and to forgive is divine. This book shows clearly, with numerous references to biblical passages, that the wounds caused by lack of forgiveness can be healed only through the intervention of the Holy Spirit. Christian brothers and sisters together with others in our societies who are burdened with unforgiveness will gain tremendously by reading this book, which is written in simple English and reinforced with many relevant and valuable biblical quotations.

Book Constructive Wallowing

    Book Details:
  • Author : Tina Gilbertson
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2014-05-19
  • ISBN : 1936740966

Download or read book Constructive Wallowing written by Tina Gilbertson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Constructive wallowing” seems like an oxymoron. Constructive is a good thing, but wallowing is bad. Right? But wait a minute; is it really so terrible to give ourselves a time-out to feel our feelings? Or is it possible that wallowing is an act of loving kindness, right when we need it most? Just about everyone loves the idea of self-compassion -- the notion that maybe in spite of our messy emotions and questionable behavior, we really aren’t all that bad. In recent years there’s been an explosion of books that encourage readers to stop beating themselves up for being human, which is terrific. Unfortunately, readers who aren’t interested in Buddhism or meditation have been left out in the cold. Self-compassion is an everyday habit that everyone can learn, even if they a) aren't particularly spiritual, b) find most books about self-compassion too serious, or else c) have already overdosed on meditation. Constructive Wallowing: How to Beat Bad Feelings by Letting Yourself Have Them is the first book to cut right to the chase, bypassing descriptions of Eastern philosophy and meditation techniques to teach readers exactly how to accept and feel their feelings with self-compassion for greater emotional health and well-being … while making them laugh from time to time. It seems that the wisdom of “keeping your friends close and your enemies closer” applies to emotions as well as people. It’s tempting to turn away from menacing, uncomfortable feelings like anger, grief or regret and treat them like unwanted guests; however, ignoring them just seems to make them stick around. They lurk in the background like punks with switchblades, waiting to pounce as soon as they see an opening. By learning to accept and embrace, rather than suppress, difficult feelings, people can keep their sense of personal power and, better yet, gain greater understanding and ultimately esteem for themselves. Feeling bad can actually lead to feeling better, faster!
