Book NLO QCD CORRECTIONS TO HADRONIC HIGGS PRODUCTION WITH HEAVY QUARKS

Download or read book NLO QCD CORRECTIONS TO HADRONIC HIGGS PRODUCTION WITH HEAVY QUARKS written by C. JACKSON and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production of a Higgs boson in association with a pair of t{bar t} or b{bar b} quarks plays a very important role at both the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider. The theoretical prediction of the corresponding cross sections has been improved by including the complete next-to-leading order QCD corrections. After a brief description of the most relevant technical aspects of the calculation, we review the results obtained for both the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider.

Book QCD Corrections to Higgs Pair Production in Bottom Quark Fusion

Download or read book QCD Corrections to Higgs Pair Production in Bottom Quark Fusion written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a complete next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation for the total cross section of inclusive Higgs pair production via bottom-quark fusion (b{bar b} → hh) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the Standard Model. The NLO QCD corrections lead to less dependence on the renormalization scale ([mu]{sub R}) and the factorization scale ([mu]{sub F}) than the leading-order (LO) cross section, and they significantly increase the LO cross section. The rate for inclusive Higgs pair production is small in the Standard Model, but can be large in models with enhanced couplings of the b quark to the Higgs bosons.

Book NLO QCD Corrections to ZZ Jet Production at Hadron Colliders

Download or read book NLO QCD Corrections to ZZ Jet Production at Hadron Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fully differential calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of Z-boson pairs in association with a hard jet at the Tevatron and LHC is presented. This process is an important background for Higgs particle and new physics searches at hadron colliders. We find sizable corrections for cross sections and differential distributions, particularly at the LHC. Residual scale uncertainties are typically at the 10% level and can be further reduced by applying a veto against the emission of a second hard jet. Our results confirm that NLO corrections do not simply rescale LO predictions.

Book QCD Radiation in Top Antitop and Z Jets Final States

Download or read book QCD Radiation in Top Antitop and Z Jets Final States written by Kiran Joshi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis contains new research in both experimental and theoretical particle physics, making important contributions in each. Two analyses of collision data from the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are presented, as well as two phenomenological studies of heavy coloured resonances that could be produced at the LHC. The first data analysis was the measurement of top quark-antiquark production with a veto on additional jet activity. As the first detector-corrected measurement of jet activity in top-antitop events it played an important role in constraining the theoretical modelling, and ultimately reduced these uncertainties for ATLAS's other top-quark measurements by a factor of two. The second data analysis was the measurement of Z+2jet production and the observation of the electroweak vector boson fusion (VBF) component. As the first observation of VBF at a hadron collider, this measurement demonstrated new techniques to reliably extract VBF processes and paved the way for future VBF Higgs measurements. The first phenomenological study developed a new technique for identifying the colour of heavy resonances produced in proton-proton collisions. As a by-product of this study an unexpected and previously unnoticed correlation was discovered between the probability of correctly identifying a high-energy top and the colour structure of the event it was produced in. The second phenomenological study explored this relationship in more detail, and could have important consequences for the identification of new particles that decay to top quarks.

Book QCD Higher Order Effects and Search for New Physics

Download or read book QCD Higher Order Effects and Search for New Physics written by Jian Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-28 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book mainly investigates the precision predictions on the signal of new physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) scheme. The potential of the LHC to discover the signal of dark matter associated production with a photon is studied after including next-to-leading order QCD corrections. The factorization and resummation of t-channel top quark transverse momentum distribution in the standard model at both the Tevatron and the LHC with soft-collinear effective theory are presented. The potential of the early LHC to discover the signal of monotops is discussed. These examples illustrate the method of searching for new physics beyond what is known today with high precision.

Book Heavy Quark Associated Production with One Hard Photon at Hadron Colliders

Download or read book Heavy Quark Associated Production with One Hard Photon at Hadron Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the calculation of heavy-quark associated production with a hard photon at hadron colliders, namely $pp(p\bar p) \rightarrow Q\bar Q\gam +X$ (for $Q=t, b$), at Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). We study the impact of NLO QCD corrections on the total cross section and several differential distributions at both the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). For $t\bar t\gam$ production we observe a sizeable reduction of the renormalization and factorization scale dependence when the NLO QCD corrections are included, while for $b\bar b\gam$ production a considerable scale dependence still persists at NLO in QCD. This is consistent with what emerges in similar processes involving $b$ quarks and vector bosons and we explain its origin in detail. For $b\bar b\gam$ production we study both the case in which at least one $b$ jet and the case in which at least two $b$ jets are observed. We perform the $b\bar b\gam$ calculation using the Four Flavor Number Scheme (4FNS) and compare the case where at least one $b$ jet is observed with the corresponding results from the Five Flavor Number Scheme (5FNS) calculation. Finally we compare our results for $p\bar p \rightarrow \gam+b+X$ with the Tevatron data.

Book NLO Higgs Boson Rapidity Distributions at Hadron Colliders

Download or read book NLO Higgs Boson Rapidity Distributions at Hadron Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We describe a new method, based on an extension of the unitarity cutting rules proposed earlier, which is very efficient for the algorithmic evaluation of phase-space integrals for various differential distributions. As a first application, we compute the next-to-leading order normalized rapidity distribution of the CP-even and the CP-odd Higgs boson produced in hadron collisions through gluon fusion. We work in the heavy top-quark approximation; we find that the NLO corrections at the LHC are approximately 5% in the zero rapidity region.

Book Standard Model Phenomenology

Download or read book Standard Model Phenomenology written by Shaaban Khalil and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-20 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book is fully up to date with all the latest developments on both theoretical and experimental investigations of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics with a particular emphasis on its historical development on both sides. It further stresses the cross-fertilisation between the two sub-disciplines of theoretical and experimental particle physics which has been instrumental in establishing the SM. In other words, the book develops a truly phenomenological attitude to the subject. In addition to emphasising the successes of the SM, this book also critically assesses its limitations and raises key unanswered questions for the purpose of presenting a new perspective of how to further our knowledge above and beyond it. It also contains both historical information from past experiments and latest results from the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This book will be an invaluable reference to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, in addition to early-stage researchers in the field. Key Features: Provides a unique approach not found in current literature in developing and verifying the SM Presents the theory pedagogically but rigorously from basic knowledge of quantum field theory Brings together experimental and theoretical practice in one, cohesive text

Book NLO QCD Corrections to Vector Boson Production in Association with Multiple Heavy and Light Jets

Download or read book NLO QCD Corrections to Vector Boson Production in Association with Multiple Heavy and Light Jets written by Felix Richard Anger and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Precise theory predictions for scattering processes are an important input for the physics program at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Geneva. Notably the complex collider signatures of an electroweak vector boson and many jets that originate in either light partons (light jets) or bottom quarks (b jets) are relevant for both measurements of Standard Model processes as well as searches for new physics. In this thesis, we present new next-to-leading order QCD predictions for two related high-multiplicity processes at the LHC $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. We show predictions for $Wb\bar{b}$ production in association with two and three light jets that we computed for the first time. In order to obtain the required one-loop amplitudes, we implement the numerical unitarity approach for massive particles in a new version of the BlackHat library. To this end, we devise and apply a new algorithm for the evaluation of D-dimensional unitarity cuts. It builds on a consistent embedding of external fermions states in dimensional regularization and reduces the computational complexity of our calculations. Furthermore, we present next-to-leading order QCD predictions for $V+n$-jet production in association with up to $n = 5$ light jets for $V = W^\pm$ and with up to $n = 4$ light jets for $V = Z$, which we extend to the higher center-of-mass energy of the Large Hadron Collider Run-II. For these processes we compare results obtained with fixed-order scales such as $\hat{H}_T^'/2$ with the MiNLO reweighting procedure

Book Search for New Physics in tt Final States with Additional Heavy Flavor Jets with the ATLAS Detector

Download or read book Search for New Physics in tt Final States with Additional Heavy Flavor Jets with the ATLAS Detector written by Javier Montejo Berlingen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-20 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This doctoral thesis focuses on the search for new phenomena in top-antitop quark (tt) final states with additional b-quark jets at the LHC. It uses the full Run 1 dataset collected by the ATLAS experiment in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV. The final state of interest consists of an isolated lepton, a neutrino and at least six jets with at least four b-tagged jets, a challenging experimental signature owing to the large background from tt+heavy-flavor production. This final state is characteristic of ttH production, with the Higgs boson decaying into bb, a process that allows direct probing of the top-Higgs Yukawa coupling. This signature is also present in many extensions of the Standard Model that have been proposed as solutions to the hierarchy problem, such as supersymmetry or composite Higgs models, which predict the pair production of bosonic or fermionic top quark partners, or the anomalous production of four-top-quark events. All these physics processes have been searched for using an ambitious search strategy that has been developed on the basis of a combination of state-of-art theoretical predictions and a sophisticated statistical analysis to constrain in-situ the large background uncertainties. As a result, the most restrictive bounds to date on the above physics processes have been obtained.
