Book Project Based Learning Applied to the Language Classroom

Download or read book Project Based Learning Applied to the Language Classroom written by Juliana Franco Tavares/ Louise Emma Potter and published by 16 Tons. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Project-Based Learning Applied to the Language Classroom, the authors propose a way to develop PBL in the language classrooms taking into account all of the obstacles and specifics involved in teaching a foreign language. It is about teaching English as a second or foreign language using Project-Based Learning (PBL). We approach this combination because many people seem to think about implementing PBL in their language classes and ask questions about how to do it, but feel that there aren’t enough materials based on this methodology. In fact, most researchers and writers we have come across discuss the applications of PBL in the students’ mother tongue to subjects such as Math, History, Literature,Social Studies, and Science. However, there are few published works about the specifics of PBL in foreign language classes. Besides, it seems obvious to us that the main difficulty in developing projects in a second or foreign language lies exactly on the fact that communication may be hindered when students do not have enough knowledge in the target language.

Book Towards a Hybrid Flexible and Socially Engaged Higher Education

Download or read book Towards a Hybrid Flexible and Socially Engaged Higher Education written by Michael E. Auer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: We are currently witnessing a significant transformation in the development of education on all levels and especially in post-secondary education. To face these challenges, higher education must find innovative and effective ways to respond in a proper way. The pandemic period left us with profound changes in the way we teach and learn, including the massive use of new means of communication, such as videoconferencing and other technological tools. Moreover, the current explosion of artificial intelligence tools, mainly used by students, is challenging teaching practices maintained for centuries. Scientifically based statements as well as excellent best practice examples are absolutely necessary. The 26th International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning (ICL2023), which will take place in Madrid, Spain, between 26th and 30th September 2023, will be the perfect place where to present and discuss current trends in Higher Education. Since its beginning in 1998 this conference is devoted to new approaches in learning with a focus on collaborative learning in Higher Education. Nowadays the ICL conferences are a forum of the exchange of relevant trends and research results as well as the presentation of practical experiences in Learning and Engineering Pedagogy. In this way we try to bridge the gap between 'pure' scientific research and the everyday work of educators

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of strategies and tips collected through a survey of 80 practicing ESL professionals, as well as a series of conversations with the author’s colleagues. The book reveals teachers’ motivations for choosing certain techniques. A unique feature of the book is the thinking that underlies teachers’ choices in terms of how they manage their classroom. Voices of Experience was designed and written with teachers-in-training and seasoned professionals in mind; the book would be used differently by each. The book has five units: The Classroom Environment, Lesson Planning, Pair and Group Work, Classroom Interactions, and Classroom Trouble Spots. Each unit has two or three chapters that discuss the survey responses and relevant quotes from participants. Each unit concludes with a Connections section that features: · *Challenging Beliefs: What Teachers Think, which presents a statement for readers to respond to and compare their responses to others who completed the survey. · * Classroom Connections: What Teachers Do, which lists reflection or discussion questions · * Strategies and Motivations: What Teachers Say, which presents more quotes from respondents, particularly those that look at what’s behind teachers’ choices. These too could be used for reflection or discussion.

Book History Lessons

  • Author : S.G. Grant
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-04-04
  • ISBN : 1135625883
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book History Lessons written by S.G. Grant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, extended case studies of two veteran teachers and their students are combined with the extant research literature to explore current issues of teaching, learning, and testing U.S. history. It is among the first to examine these issues together and in interaction. While the two teachers share several similarities, the teaching practices they construct could not be more different. To explore these differences, the author asks what their teaching practices look like, how their instruction influences their students' understandings of history, and what role statewide exams play in their classroom decisions. History Lessons: Teaching, Learning, and Testing in U.S. High School Classrooms is a major contribution to the emerging body of empirical research in the field of social studies education, chiefly in the subject area of history, which asks how U.S. students make sense of history and how teachers construct their classroom practices. Three case study chapters are paired with three essay review chapters intended to help readers analyze the cases by looking at them in the context of the current research literature. Two concluding chapters extend the cases and analyses: the first looks at how and why the teachers profiled in this book construct their individual teaching practices, in terms of three distinct but interacting sets of influences--personal, organizational, and policy factors; the second explores the prospects for promoting what the author defines as ambitious teaching and learning. Many policymakers assume that standards-based reforms support the efforts of ambitious teachers, but until we better understand how they and the students in their classes think and act, that assumption is hollow at best. This book is a must have for faculty and students in the field of social studies education, and broadly relevant across the fields of curriculum studies and educational policy.
