Book Night Vision for Airmen

Download or read book Night Vision for Airmen written by United States. Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You wouldn't be in naval aviation if you didn't have good eyes. But having good eyes and seeing well are as different as having a fine gun and shooting well. This is doubly true at night. Most people do not know the facts about night seeing. Many people don't even know that there is anything to learn about it. But from the moment you climb into a plane until the moment you climb out of it you depend on seeing. The more you see and the faster you see it, the healthier the climate whether you are over the North Atlantic, the Central Pacific, Tokyo-or your home field or carrier. The enemy is already learning the tricks of night seeing. To keep ahead of the enemy we must use all there is to know on the subject. You will never see as well at night as a tomcat, but you can learn to do a better job of seeing at night. Aside from the obvious fact that you can't see as much in darkness as in daylight, there are three reasons why it takes thought and training and practice to get the most out of your night eyes. 1. Your mind and your eyes are a team. To see well, you must concentrate on seeing and put effort into it. If you don't, you don't see. 2. Your eyes are so built that you have to learn to use them in a different way at night. 3. Your eyes tell you so little and familiar things look so different at night that it takes practice to recognize the things your eyes see.

Book Flight Accidents in the 21st Century U S Air Force

Download or read book Flight Accidents in the 21st Century U S Air Force written by Henry Bond and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mid-flight noncombat mishaps and blunders occur frequently in the USAF during training and utility flights--sometimes with the loss of life and regularly with the destruction of expensive aircraft. In one extreme case, a $2.2 billion B-2 Spirit bomber crashed soon after takeoff and was destroyed. The events surrounding such accidents are gathered by USAF investigators and a report is published for each case. The author has collected these reports, including some made available following FOI (Freedom of Information) requests to U.S. air bases, and rewritten them in language accessible to the general public. The causes--bird-strikes, joy-riding, unauthorized maneuvers, pilot disorientation, an unseen binoculars-case blocking the plane's joystick, unexpected moisture in an air-pressure gauge--are often surprising and, at times, horrifying.

Book Man Machine Environment System Engineering

Download or read book Man Machine Environment System Engineering written by Shengzhao Long and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-20 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Man-Machine-Environment System Engineering: Proceedings of the 22nd Conference on MMESE are an academic showcase of the best papers selected from more than 500 submissions, introducing readers to the top research topics and the latest developmental trends in the theory and application of MMESE. This proceedings are interdisciplinary studies on the concepts and methods of physiology, psychology, system engineering, computer science, environment science, management, education, and other related disciplines. Researchers and professionals who study an interdisciplinary subject crossing above disciplines or researchers on MMESE subject will be mainly benefited from this proceedings MMESE primarily focuses on the relationship between Man, Machine and Environment, studying the optimum combination of man-machine-environment systems. In this system, “Man” refers to working people as the subject in the workplace (e.g. operators, decision-makers); “Machine” is the general name for any object controlled by Man (including tools, machinery, computers, systems and technologies), and “Environment” describes the specific working conditions under which Man and Machine interact (e.g. temperature, noise, vibration, hazardous gases etc.). The three goals of optimization of the man-machine-environment systems are to ensure safety, efficiency and economy. The integrated and advanced science research topic Man-Machine-Environment System Engineering (MMESE) was first established in China by Professor Shengzhao Long in 1981, with direct support from one of the greatest modern Chinese scientists, Xuesen Qian. In a letter to Shengzhao Long from October 22nd, 1993, Xuesen Qian wrote: “You have created a very important modern science and technology in China!”
