Schulpolitik, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This paper delves into Nigeria's education development rankings and the crucial role of quality education within a multicultural democracy. It explores the concept of multicultural democracy, quality education, their interplay, and the responsibilities of the executive and legislative branches of the Nigerian government, along with the duties of school authorities in ensuring the delivery of quality education in Nigeria. The paper also provides suggestions for improving the quality of education in Nigeria. Alarming statistics reveal that millions of Nigerian children lack access to quality education, and Nigeria's education development has been hindered, ranking 163rd out of 189 countries in the Human Development Index. Scholars have identified inadequate funding as a significant issue plaguing the Nigerian education system, with budgetary allocations falling far below UNESCO's recommended levels. This paper underscores the need for better planning and addressing challenges to effectively implement educational strategies in Nigeria to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 4 by 2030. In conclusion, this paper addresses the critical issue of quality education in a multicultural democracy like Nigeria and advocates for improved funding and strategic planning to enhance the quality of education in the country.

Book The Changing Landscape of Education in Africa

Download or read book The Changing Landscape of Education in Africa written by David Johnson and published by Symposium Books Ltd. This book was released on 2008 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is over 40 years since Coombs (1967) first drew attention to the World Education Crisis, and specifically problems in the educational systems of countries in the developing world. Today, many of these problems remain, and are most visible in the educational systems of countries in sub-Saharan Africa. A large number of children remain out of school and for those who do enrol, less than half complete the primary education cycle. More worrying is the fact that those who do complete primary schooling leave with unacceptably low levels of knowledge and skills. The problems of access to education, and the quality of learning opportunities and learning outcomes are unevenly spread between rural and urban areas, better- and worse-off constituencies, and between boys and girls. This raises questions about the nature of the state and its commitment to equality and equity for all. The chapters in this volume argue that quality, equity and democratic accountability are inseparable objectives in the quest to strengthen and improve educational systems in the developing world. Between them they highlight the specific problems of quality, equity and democratic accountability in a number of African educational systems, and provide useful insights into ongoing work by national governments and international donor agencies to remedy these shortcomings.

Book Empowerment of Women for Promoting Health and Quality of Life

Download or read book Empowerment of Women for Promoting Health and Quality of Life written by Snehendu B. Kar and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-05-18 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empowerment of Women for Promoting Health and Quality of Life critically reviews the key theoretical and empirical foundations and policy options for Global Public Health (GPH). The author presents the lessons learned from a meta-analysis of 80 self-organized, successful women's empowerment case studies across the world that have enhanced the health and well-being of their families and communities. The information gleaned offers rare opportunities for understanding what works, how women empower themselves, and how others--professionals included--can help. Additionally, Dr. Kar designs an "EMPOWER" model for empowerment of women for GPH and human development. Using an ecological perspective, the model defines the domains, dimensions, and processes of empowerment, and is applied to a community-based women's empowerment-for-health-promotion initiative. The implications for empowerment and GPH policy, practice, and research are also discussed.

Book Interreligious Curriculum for Peace Education in Nigeria

Download or read book Interreligious Curriculum for Peace Education in Nigeria written by Isaiah Ekundayo Dada and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nigeria, a country under a military regime for several years, transitioned to a civilian regime in May 1999. Since this change, violent conflicts between Christians and Muslims have continued to erupt. They constitute one of the gravest dangers facing Nigeria, a country with a population of 189 million people. What have Nigerian religious leaders done about this situation, especially in educational circles? Have they received formal educational training to understand the causes of this violence and especially how to provide alternatives for more peaceful relations within Nigeria? Does the current educational system in Nigeria provide the main ingredients for the promotion of a culture of peace? The absence and neglect of interreligious peace education as part of a peace education core program and the lack of an interreligious curriculum for peace education in the training of religious leaders are the two problems contributing towards the lack of effectiveness of religious leaders in promoting less violent and more peaceful living. The solution to the problem is proposed in this book entitled Interreligious Curriculum for Peace Education in Nigeria. The book develops a one-year curriculum, building on Yoruba, Islamic & Christian conceptions of peace, and teaches how to create safe, caring, spiritual, peaceful and successful interfaith relationships between all Nigerian religious communities. In the long term, the book helps to educate religious leaders to contribute, in themselves and with the help of their respective religious communities, to reducing the growing religious violence in Nigeria.
