Book A Dynamic Perspective on Next Generation Offshoring

Download or read book A Dynamic Perspective on Next Generation Offshoring written by Stephan Manning and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seemingly unlimited availability of science and engineering (Samp;E) talent in emerging economies and the increasing difficulties of finding such talent in advanced economies have given rise to a new trend: the global sourcing of Samp;E talent. This paper examines the antecedents and dynamics of this trend. In particular, it examines the coevolution of macroeconomic forces, domestic and offshore national policies, industry dynamics, and firm-level offshoring capabilities driving today's offshoring decisions. The analysis exploits findings from the Offshoring Research Network (ORN) project. By taking a dynamic and multilevel perspective on next-generation offshoring, this paper may inform both firm-level strategies and national policy-making.

Book excerpt: The continuous search for efficiency gains and the goal of attaining a sustainable competitive advantage have steadily increased the volume of goods and services procured globally from third party vendors. In this context, named as “the next wave of globalization”, the offshoring phenomenon has stimulated research and political debates. With the rise of services offshoring, international value chain disaggregation for services has reached a formerly unknown scale. Book Global Outsourcing and Offshoring

Download or read book Global Outsourcing and Offshoring written by Farok J. Contractor and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-11 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Companies are increasingly asking which of their value chain activities are best performed within their own company and which may be outsourced. In addition, they are also considering which pieces of their value chain may be better performed abroad. These interrelated decisions concerning outsourcing and offshoring have not only changed entire industries, they have also transformed the lives of people across the world. Hundreds of millions of jobs in emerging nations have been the direct result of outsourcing and offshoring decisions. At the same time, many people in the developed world have lost their jobs because a company has been able to find a cheaper alternative. Featuring contributions from scholars in eleven different countries, this book was the first to examine the theory and practice of outsourcing and offshoring simultaneously. It includes studies of a variety of different industries, including pharmaceuticals, automobiles, medical records, appliances, human resource management and telecommunications.

Book Next Generation Outsourcing

Download or read book Next Generation Outsourcing written by Gregor Hezel and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2009-03-10 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The Handbook of Global Outsourcing and Offshoring

Download or read book The Handbook of Global Outsourcing and Offshoring written by Ilan Oshri and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-10 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global sourcing is a complex area, and one that managers must get to grips with as business investment in outsourcing continues to climb. This book provides invaluable guidance for the reader, walking them through the fundamentals of global sourcing to very recent trends, including intelligent automation, cloud services and crowdsourcing. Replete with key examples and cases, it allows students and managers alike to relate academic theory to practice, acting as a roadmap to a rapidly evolving field. For the last decade, the authors have studied the full spectrum of activities involved in global sourcing from both client, supplier and advisory viewpoints. Their research has shown that while more firms engage in global sourcing activities, many of them are still struggling to extract value from sourcing relationships. While past research has produced numerous practical frameworks regarding the management of global sourcing of services, little of this insight has been put into practice. This book addresses such shortcomings by exploring the impact of theory on practice. It is important reading for any academic, student or practitioner concerned with global sourcing either from the client or supplier perspective.

Book excerpt: Everyone's familiar with manufacturing offshoring by now. But a different phenomenon will soon drive even more powerful changes: the globalization of services. Until now, it's been virtually impossible to get a clear picture of what's going on, where, and why. Where are the jobs going? Which companies benefit -- or could benefit? How, exactly, does services offshoring work? Who makes a good partner? What are the public policy implications? The Services Shift answers all these questions and more, offering powerful insights for managers, policymakers, and citizens alike. Two leading researchers reveal how services offshoring is working in both industries and individual companies, and show how to define and implement realistic services sourcing goals. You'll review the types of players involved in services offshoring, and understand its geographical centers, from China and India to Hungary, Russia, Morocco, Brazil, South Africa, and Mauritius. Drawing on detailed interviews with dozens of participants, the authors review the management skillsets associated with successful services offshoring. Next, they review policy initiatives in both developing and developed countries, and assess U.S. policy initiatives aimed at restricting offshoring. Next, they review policy initiatives in both developing and developed countries, and assess U.S. policy initiatives aimed at restricting offshoring. Finally, the authors preview emerging trends in services globalization.
