Download or read book Newton Faraday Einstein From Classical Physics To Modern Physics written by Tadayoshi Shioyama and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our lives have benefited immensely from the scientific evolution over the years. This book provides an overview of the lives of three great scientists, Newton, Faraday and Einstein, who made the most significant contributions to physics.Newton and Faraday laid the foundation of Newtonian mechanics and electro-magnetic theory, respectively, that constituted the two greatest contributions to classical physics. Newton elucidated the motion of celestial bodies with the three laws of motion, while Faraday researched electro-magnetic phenomena and discovered electro-magnetic induction, magneto-optical effect, etc.Furthermore, Einstein contributed to the foundation of quantum mechanics and relativity theory which comprise the two greatest theories in modern physics. By elucidating photoelectric effect, Einstein proved the correctness of the concept of quantum proposed by Planck which resulted in quantum mechanics being considered as an epoch-making mechanics following Newtonian mechanics. Einstein renovated the concept of time-space and derived the Lorentz transformation supporting relativity principle. This book will take the readers on a journey to understand the progress from classical physics to modern physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thrilling adventure story chronicling the perilous journey of the scientists who set out to prove the theory of relativity--the results of which catapulted Albert Einstein to fame and forever changed our understanding of the universe. In 1911, a relatively unknown physicist named Albert Einstein published his preliminary theory of gravity. But it hadn't been tested. To do that, he needed a photograph of starlight as it passed the sun during a total solar eclipse. So began a nearly decade-long quest by seven determined astronomers from observatories in four countries, who traveled the world during five eclipses to capture the elusive sight. Over the years, they faced thunderstorms, the ravages of a world war, lost equipment, and local superstitions. Finally, in May of 1919, British expeditions to northern Brazil and the island of Príncipe managed to photograph the stars, confirming Einstein's theory. At its heart, this is a story of frustration, faith, and ultimate victory--and of the scientists whose efforts helped build the framework for the big bang theory, catapulted Einstein to international fame, and shook the foundation of physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Great Minds: Isaac Newton, Nikola Tesla, and Albert Einstein Founders of the Scientific Age The last four hundred years have been some of the most incredible years in human history. From the 17th century to the 21st century, humans went from being almost universally agrarian with sailing vessels, muskets, and astrolabes being the most cutting edge technology on the planet to an era where the world is almost universally industrial or post-industrial with airplanes, cars, spaceships, computers, widespread electricity, enormous power from coal, oil, and nuclear power, and the ability to produce much more food than was ever possible before the Industrial Revolution. This book describes the lives and ideas of three of the minds who made this transition possible: Isaac Newton, Nikola Tesla, and Albert Einstein. What was it about these men that allowed them to change the world with their ideas how the universe and technology worked? In this book you will learn about how these three men were able to turn their respective worlds upside-down with their unconventional thinking, thirst for knowledge, far-reaching vision for the world, and their shear genius. They all had rather different personalities but what unites them is that they all wanted to know how the world really worked were able to train their minds to accomplish that goal. It wasn't easy for any of them and they all lived in relative isolation developing their ideas and inventions while often receiving opposition from the existing scientific, political, and cultural establishment, but in so doing they were able to transform our understanding of universe and society in a way that led to the birth of the modern scientific age. The Modern World is indebted to these men for good or ill.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book recalls, for nonscientific readers, the history of quantum mechanics, the main points of its interpretation, and Einstein's objections to it, together with the responses engendered by his arguments. Most popular discussions on the strange aspects of quantum mechanics ignore the fundamental fact that Einstein was correct in his insistence that the theory does not directly describe reality. While that fact does not remove the theory's counterintuitive features, it casts them in a different light. Context is provided by following the history of two central aspects of physics: the elucidation of the basic structure of the world made up of particles, and the explanation, as well as the prediction, of how objects move. This history, prior to quantum mechanics, reveals that whereas theories and discoveries concerning the "structure" of nature became increasingly realistic, the laws of motion, even as they became more powerful, became more and more abstract and remote from intuitive notions of reality. Newton's laws of motion gained their abstract power by sacrificing direct and intuitive contact with real experience. Arriving 250 years after Newton, the break with a direct description of reality embodied in quantum mechanics was nevertheless profound.Contents: Some Quantum HistoryRules and InterpretationsEinstein's DefectionFrom Atomism to Real ParticlesLaws of MotionFieldsNew Particles and Their Quantum OriginsAtoms, Inside and OutMethods and Underpinnings Readership: Academics and students in physics and the general public.

Book Einstein in Berlin

Download or read book Einstein in Berlin written by Thomas Levenson and published by Random House. This book was released on 2017-05-23 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a book that is both biography and the most exciting form of history, here are eighteen years in the life of a man, Albert Einstein, and a city, Berlin, that were in many ways the defining years of the twentieth century. Einstein in Berlin In the spring of 1913 two of the giants of modern science traveled to Zurich. Their mission: to offer the most prestigious position in the very center of European scientific life to a man who had just six years before been a mere patent clerk. Albert Einstein accepted, arriving in Berlin in March 1914 to take up his new post. In December 1932 he left Berlin forever. “Take a good look,” he said to his wife as they walked away from their house. “You will never see it again.” In between, Einstein’s Berlin years capture in microcosm the odyssey of the twentieth century. It is a century that opens with extravagant hopes--and climaxes in unparalleled calamity. These are tumultuous times, seen through the life of one man who is at once witness to and architect of his day--and ours. He is present at the events that will shape the journey from the commencement of the Great War to the rumblings of the next one. We begin with the eminent scientist, already widely recognized for his special theory of relativity. His personal life is in turmoil, with his marriage collapsing, an affair under way. Within two years of his arrival in Berlin he makes one of the landmark discoveries of all time: a new theory of gravity--and before long is transformed into the first international pop star of science. He flourishes during a war he hates, and serves as an instrument of reconciliation in the early months of the peace; he becomes first a symbol of the hope of reason, then a focus for the rage and madness of the right. And throughout these years Berlin is an equal character, with its astonishing eruption of revolutionary pathways in art and architecture, in music, theater, and literature. Its wild street life and sexual excesses are notorious. But with the debacle of the depression and Hitler’s growing power, Berlin will be transformed, until by the end of 1932 it is no longer a safe home for Einstein. Once a hero, now vilified not only as the perpetrator of “Jewish physics” but as the preeminent symbol of all that the Nazis loathe, he knows it is time to leave.
