Download or read book A Compilation of Forest Biomass Harvesting and Related Policy in Canada written by Jean Roach and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this literature review is to summarize policies, including legislation, regulations and guidelines, related to the harvest of woody forest biomass in Canada. The focus of the literature review is on policy that applies to Crown land. The report focusses on policy related to biomass harvesting from logged blocks and roadside debris, rather than purpose-grown plantations, since this is seen as the major new forest biomass energy source, and policy relating to the latter has not been developed in Canada.--Document.

Book Communities Development and Sustainability across Canada

Download or read book Communities Development and Sustainability across Canada written by John T. Pierce and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a sustainable community? The pressing need to answer this simple question is what prompted John Pierce and Ann Dale to gather the essays in this volume. Communities, Development, and Sustainability across Canada is a timely synthesis of work on how Canadian communities can achieve sustainable development. It bridges the gap between theory and praxis and brings together academics, policy makers, and community activists, all of whom have argued for increased local participation in sustainable community development. Communities have become the weak link in efforts to refashion relations between the environment and the economy. The goal of this book is not simply to describe problems but also to suggest answers, not simply to offer theory but also to promote action, so that Canadian communities can better achieve sustainable development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report examines both subjective & objective social indicators of community sustainability in the Western Newfoundland Model Forest, with a specific focus on the communities of Corner Brook, Pasadena, Lark Harbour, and Rocky Harbour as these are representative of the region's community types. The objective measures are in the form of Canadian Census data and the subjective measures come from personal interviews with community residents. Six key indicators are used to assess community sustainability: population, employment, income, human capital, poverty, and real estate. The findings are synthesized in discussions of resource dependence, the differences in what the indicators show for each of the communities, and the contrasts between what the subjective & objective indicators show.
