Book A Commentary on St Paul s

Download or read book A Commentary on St Paul s written by Joseph Agar Beet and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-12-23 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Commentary on St. Paul's: Epistle to the Galatians This historic light on St. Paul and his surroundings, supported as it is by the united testimony of the writers of the early Church, affords evidence which in all ages has assured all students, even those who have doubted the authorship of other Epistles attributed to him, that at least these four Epistles are from the pen of the Great Apostle. This certainty of authorship gives to these Epistles a special value, even amid the other Epistles bearing St. Paul's name and to those who confidently accept them all as genuine. In harmony with this mutual relation of the Epistles, the three volumes in which I have annotated them form one com plete work. I have endeavoured, by tracing the line of thought of these Epistles and by comparing them each with the others and with the Book of Acts, to reproduce the thought andthe movements and surroundings of the Apostle of the Gentiles at the noonday of his career. This reproduction I hope to supplement by another volume expounding the profound Epistles written during the seclusion of his first long imprisonment, viz. Those to the Ephesians, Philippians, Colos sians, and Philemon: by a fifth volume comprising both his two earliest and his three latest extant Epistles, viz. Those written during his second missionary tour, to the newly-founded Church at Thessalonica, and those written, as I hope to prove, after his release from his first imprisonment and to conclude the series by a volume expounding St. Paul's teaching as a whole, com paring it with that of the other writers of the New Testament, and tracing the manifold teaching of these various writers to its one immediate source in the Gospel proclaimed by Christ and to its ultimate source in the Eternal Purpose of God. Download or read book A Handbook of the Epistle of St Paul to the Romans written by N. Burwash and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans: Based on the Revised Version and the Revisers' Text, for the Use of Students and Bible Classes Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, etc., we have found abun dant materials for the more perfect definition of doctrines, argu ments, and even illustrations, which have been presented in our present Epistle in more summary form. The apostle has thus served as his own expositor, and has left us no room to doubt as to his true meaning. Perhaps no hermeneutical principle has been more fruitful of light and help, both in the definition and expansion of the apostle's thought, than this. It is a great boon that we enjoy in the possession of so many works from the pen of this great Christian founder, and that so many of them are written from a point of view which throws light upon the con tents of this his greatest work. Download or read book The Gospel According to Saint Paul Classic Reprint written by William Porcher Dubose and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel According to Saint Paul IN advocating and pressing any particular point of View, one is inevitably liable to press it unduly and at the expense of other points of View. In the quest of truth this danger ought not to be too much of a deter rent to either freedom of thought or boldness of expres sion. The ultimate aim of each one of us should be not to save ourselves from error but to advance the truth. We may safely rely upon it that our truth will in the end be accepted and our error corrected. If I had been too much afraid of going wrong I should have made no progress in growing right; who of us that has really thought or spoken may not say that of himself? For my own part, I have not merely tradi tionally believed but become personally convinced that there is a truth of the Scriptures and that there is a mind of the Church; and that each of these will take care of itself as against the infinite errors and vagaries of individual thinkers and writers. I have in my mind not only an implicit faith but a rational science or philosophy of these things, which at least satisfies myself and gives me security and rest from the fear.
