This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, grade: 1.3, University of applied sciences Frankfurt a. M., language: English, abstract: This thesis will examine supplier risk management and provide prospects to minimize these risks. Thus, the thesis will identify latent quality risks for automotive companies by introducing unknown suppliers and discloses methodological measures to minimize proactively such risks through the systematic of supplier quality management. The research is going to contribute a solution approach on this research problem that can be applied as a guideline to minimize supplier quality risks. Consequently, the theoretical framework for quality management and risk management will be examined by this thesis and existing tools and methods are compiled. A research study will be elaborated with findings and analysis from expert’s knowledge. These research findings will be combined subsequently with the theoretical framework and will culminate in a recommended approach to achieve supplier risk minimization. With an increasing demand, the automotive industry must deal with the reliability of vehicles and components. The success of many companies is based on the quality of their products, especially for companies operating successfully on the global market. In fact, all the car manufacturers as well as their suppliers are expanding their production capacities in the growth region China. Thereby new, innovative suppliers need to be established which are quality-capable. Of great importance is high quality, absolute delivery reliability together with unrivaled low prices. Stable partnerships are required with suppliers to rely on in the long-term. A New Supplier Introduction represents a risk for quality particularly when the supplier starts from a Greenfield. The major problem when nominating new suppliers is that there is no security in advance for the quality performance of the new supplier in series and that the companies depend on their suppliers with their quality performance. The nomination of the dedicated suppliers has to be done without field experience or quality performance key indicators.

Book Guideline for the Development of Chinese Suppliers

Download or read book Guideline for the Development of Chinese Suppliers written by Matthias Vodicka and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2006-12-06 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Nowadays companies all over the world face global competition. Because the bought-in part cost of engineering goods represents a big share of the overall production cost of engineering goods, procurement developed to be a major leverage to save cost in the recent years. As part of it, the supplier management is increasingly considered to be an important business function. Further, the development of supply bases in low-cost-countries (LCC), as China is, over the past years rapidly gained significance, since it is one of the remaining levers to reduce costs. After years of mass production of mostly simple products, today Industrialized-Country (IC) companies from the mechanical engineering industry strive for the sourcing of bought-in parts from Chinese suppliers. The scope of this thesis is to examine the existing methods, especially the Balanced Scorecard (BSC), and other concepts of supplier development and supplier improvement for their application with Chinese suppliers. Based on the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches a new procedure is developed. Therefore the first step is the examination of the supplier development process theoretically and practically. The theoretic view is based on literature research while the source for the examination of the practical problems of German buyers as well as of Chinese suppliers is a questionnaire based interview study among involved companies. Generally occurring threats of the buyer supplier relationship should be analyzed and weighed upon their relevancy especially for the Chinese supply market. Taking these issues into account, the existing procedures for supplier development and improvement are optimized for their application to Chinese companies. Finally the thesis closes with a general risk examination and the development of an applicable FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) based methodology for the assessment of purchasing risk especially in China. IC companies penetrating the Chinese market with the target to source locally have to develop a supply base first. The supplier development identifies the required suppliers, assesses them upon their capabilities and establishes a co-operation. A successful supply needs supplier improvement, since fundamental capabilities are lacking frequently. Further, risks weigh heavier due to the high investments required in advance. Considering mainly small and medium sized enterprises in investment goods industry, the [...]

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 1,7, Kiel University of Applied Sciences, language: English, abstract: The matter of China Sourcing is at present being given little or medium-level priority by many companies. This however is not consistent with the potential which this matter offers with reference to procurement costs and consequently one’s own competitive position. In the near future China will advance to become the procurement market par excellence. Today, it already has a large supply base, which in the next few years will lead to China developing into one of the most aggressive competitors in the world. This will lead to an increase in procurement from China. However, it is misplaced to rush into the “adventure” of procurement in China. Thorough preparation is necessary to be successful in the Chinese market. Procurement in China does not only offer opportunities but it is afflicted by risks and problems. The focus of this book is directed towards 5 important problem areas: a lack of market transparency, difficulty in establishing contacts, underdeveloped logistics infrastructure, a lack of product quality, unusual negotiating strategies. The reader is made sensitive to these problem areas. At the same time, it provides practical advice to overcome these problems and gives purchasers useful information and hints in practical business situations. This guide is aimed at purchasing managers in production companies who have not yet had experience of dealing with or in China and who would like to start.

Book Co alignment of Supplier Quality Management Practices and Cognitive Maps A Neo Configurational Perspective

Download or read book Co alignment of Supplier Quality Management Practices and Cognitive Maps A Neo Configurational Perspective written by Tobias Kosmol and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the previous research on the 'purchasing practice-performance link' rests on the notion of “net effects,” which assumes that specific practices independently of each other impact outcomes. This study challenges this core tenet by adopting a neo-configurational perspective, exploring how different combinations of factors (called “configurations”) affect outcomes. Another limitation of extant studies on the 'purchasing practice-performance link' is the narrow focus on practices; more recent behavioral supply management research finds the behavior of managers to be critically influenced by cognitive maps -- the lenses through which managers perceive, simplify, and interpret the world. Focusing on supplier quality as a core aspect of the broader 'purchasing practice-performance link', this study explores how configurations of different supplier quality management (SQM) practices and SQM-related cognitive maps help firms to manage supplier quality. It uses fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to identify SQM configurations and a cognitive-linguistic approach for the computerized text analysis of purchasing managers' cognitive maps in the context of Western companies sourcing from Chinese suppliers. The configurational fsQCA analysis identifies four different configurations associated with overcoming barriers to SQM in emerging markets. SQM-related cognitive maps prove to be a critical component in these four configurations.

Book The Chinese Paradigm of Global Supplier Relationships

Download or read book The Chinese Paradigm of Global Supplier Relationships written by Michail Giannakis and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports the results of a study that examined how firms can establish successful business relationships with Chinese suppliers. Its aim is to explore salient characteristics of the nature of buyer-supplier relationships with the emergence of China as a dominant economic power. Two surveys have been conducted that investigated several factors that inhibit and enable effective supplier relationship management (SRM) between organisations sourcing from China and Chinese suppliers, and explored the impact of cultural characteristics of Chinese management on the nature and performance of supplier relationships. The research highlights the importance of the social control aspect of governance structure of supplier relationships and stresses that both social and for mal control mechanisms should be implemented for more effective relationships with Chinese suppliers. It also demonstrates the need for companies to recognise the importance of guanxi and several cultural characteristics of the Chinese style of management in SRM and advocates the need for the development of a hybrid Sino-Japanese and global supplier relationship management paradigm that incorporates elements from the existing SRM models. It generates insights into how the cultural context of emerging markets affects the nature of business relationships and generates a research agenda in the field of supply chain management that can explore the development of new paradigms in supplier relationships management. The main theoretical argument put forward centres on the need for the development of a new global supplier relationship management paradigm that will take into account the cultural elements of the Chinese society.
