To address the critical issues of U.S. competitiveness and to better prepare the workforce, A Framework for K-12 Science Education proposes a new approach to K-12 science education that will capture students' interest and provide them with the necessary foundational knowledge in the field. A Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines a broad set of expectations for students in science and engineering in grades K-12. These expectations will inform the development of new standards for K-12 science education and, subsequently, revisions to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development for educators. This book identifies three dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science and engineering education in these grades should be built. These three dimensions are: crosscutting concepts that unify the study of science through their common application across science and engineering; scientific and engineering practices; and disciplinary core ideas in the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences and for engineering, technology, and the applications of science. The overarching goal is for all high school graduates to have sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on science-related issues, be careful consumers of scientific and technical information, and enter the careers of their choice. A Framework for K-12 Science Education is the first step in a process that can inform state-level decisions and achieve a research-grounded basis for improving science instruction and learning across the country. The book will guide standards developers, teachers, curriculum designers, assessment developers, state and district science administrators, and educators who teach science in informal environments.

The problem is therefore to find a map φ so that it satisfies the pullback equation: φ*(g) = f. In more physical terms, the question under consideration can be seen as a problem of mass transportation. The problem has received considerable attention in the cases k = 2 and k = n, but much less when 3 ≤ k ≤ n–1. The present monograph provides the first comprehensive study of the equation. The work begins by recounting various properties of exterior forms and differential forms that prove useful throughout the book. From there it goes on to present the classical Hodge–Morrey decomposition and to give several versions of the Poincaré lemma. The core of the book discusses the case k = n, and then the case 1≤ k ≤ n–1 with special attention on the case k = 2, which is fundamental in symplectic geometry. Special emphasis is given to optimal regularity, global results and boundary data. The last part of the work discusses Hölder spaces in detail; all the results presented here are essentially classical, but cannot be found in a single book. This section may serve as a reference on Hölder spaces and therefore will be useful to mathematicians well beyond those who are only interested in the pullback equation. The Pullback Equation for Differential Forms is a self-contained and concise monograph intended for both geometers and analysts. Differential geometry provides the tools for this, such as first-integrals or orbital symmetries, together with normal forms of vector fields and of maps. A crucial point of the analysis is linearization by state immersion. The theory is developed for general nonlinear systems and specialized for the class of Hamiltonian systems. By using the strong geometric structure of Hamiltonian systems, the results proposed are stated in a different, less complex and more easily comprehensible manner. They are applied to physically motivated systems, to demonstrate how much insight into known properties is gained using these techniques. Various control systems applications of the techniques are characterized including: computation of the flow of nonlinear systems; computation of semi-invariants; computation of Lyapunov functions for stability analysis and observer design.
