In 1771 or 1772, he married Margaret Bray in Hampshire County, Virginia. By 1790, they were living in Fayette County, Kentucky. Both died in Owen County, Kentucky, James in 1830 and Margaret in 1842. Descendants lived primarily in Kentucky, Iowa and Oklahoma.
