Book New Insulators Devices and Radiation Effects

Download or read book New Insulators Devices and Radiation Effects written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-02-11 with total page 967 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon technology today forms the basis of a world-wide, multi-billion dollar component industry. The reason for this expansion can be found not only in the physical properties of silicon but also in the unique properties of the silicon-silicon dioxide interface. However, silicon devices are still subject to undesired electrical phenomena called "instabilities". These are due mostly to the imperfect nature of the insulators used, to the not-so-perfect silicon-insulator interface and to the generation of defects and ionization phenomena caused by radiation. The problem of instabilities is addressed in this volume, the third of this book series. Vol.3 updates and supplements the material presented in the previous two volumes, and devotes five chapters to the problems of radiation-matter and radiation-device interactions. The volume will aid circuit manufacturers and circuit users alike to relate unstable electrical parameters and characteristics to the presence of physical defects and impurities or to the radiation environment which caused them.

Book Radiation Effects in Materials

Download or read book Radiation Effects in Materials written by Waldemar Alfredo Monteiro and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2016-07-20 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of radiation effects has developed as a major field of materials science from the beginning, approximately 70 years ago. Its rapid development has been driven by two strong influences. The properties of the crystal defects and the materials containing them may then be studied. The types of radiation that can alter structural materials consist of neutrons, ions, electrons, gamma rays or other electromagnetic waves with different wavelengths. All of these forms of radiation have the capability to displace atoms/molecules from their lattice sites, which is the fundamental process that drives the changes in all materials. The effect of irradiation on materials is fixed in the initial event in which an energetic projectile strikes a target. The book is distributed in four sections: Ionic Materials; Biomaterials; Polymeric Materials and Metallic Materials.

Book Ionization Radiation Effects in Insulators and Insulating Parts

Download or read book Ionization Radiation Effects in Insulators and Insulating Parts written by V. A. J. van Lint and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general tutorial discussion of ionization effects in insulators can be used to predict order-of-magnitude effects in capacitors and other electronic parts using insulator materials. The relevant phenomena are: (1) conduction within the insulator, (2) charge transfer to or from the insulator, and (3) conduction through ionized air around the insulator. Conduction within the insulator is most important in high-value (greater than 0.01 microfarad) capacitors. Charge transfer predominates in coaxial cables and in low-value capacitors, standoff insulators, and resistors which are in vacuum or properly potted, although conduction around these components through ionized air is the most serious perturbation if precautions are not taken. Space charges affect reproducibility of response and are particularly serious in insulating films on active devices, such as MOS transistors. Using the available data on radiation effects in insulators, order-of-magnitude estimates of the response of insulating parts can be made. (Author).
