Book Thinking in New Boxes

Download or read book Thinking in New Boxes written by Luc De Brabandere and published by Random House. This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When BIC, manufacturer of disposable ballpoint pens, wanted to grow, it looked for an idea beyond introducing new sizes and ink colors. Someone suggested lighters. LIGHTERS? With an idea that seemed crazy at first, that bright executive, instead of seeing BIC as a pen company—a business in the PEN “box”—figured out that there was growth to be found in the DISPOSABLE “box.” And he was right. Now there are disposable BIC lighters, razors, even phones. The company opened its door to a host of opportunities. IT INVENTED A NEW BOX. Your business can, too. And simply thinking “out of the box” is not the answer. True ingenuity needs structure, hard analysis, and bold brainstorming. It needs to start THINKING IN NEW BOXES —a revolutionary process for sustainable creativity from two strategic innovation experts from The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). To make sense of the world, we all rely on assumptions, on models—on what Luc de Brabandere and Alan Iny call “boxes.” If we are unaware of our boxes, they can blind us to risks and opportunities. This innovative book challenges everything you thought you knew about business creativity by breaking creativity down into five steps: • Doubt everything. Challenge your current perspectives. • Probe the possible. Explore options around you. • Diverge. Generate many new and exciting ideas, even if they seem absurd. • Converge. Evaluate and select the ideas that will drive breakthrough results. • Reevaluate. Relentlessly. No idea is a good idea forever. And did we mention Reevaluate? Relentlessly. Creativity is paramount if you are to thrive in a time of accelerating change. Replete with practical and potent creativity tools, and featuring fascinating case studies from BIC to Ford to Trader Joe’s, Thinking in New Boxes will help you and your company overcome missed opportunities and stay ahead of the curve. This book isn’t a simpleminded checklist. This is Thinking in New Boxes. And it will be fun. (We promise.) Praise for Thinking in New Boxes “Excellent . . . While focusing on business creativity, the principles in this book apply anywhere change is needed and will be of interest to anyone seeking to reinvent herself.”—Blogcritics “Thinking in New Boxes is a five-step guide that leverages the authors’ deep understanding of human nature to enable readers to overcome their limitations and both imagine and create their own futures. This book is a must-read for people living and working in today’s competitive environment.”—Ray O. Johnson, Ph.D., chief technology officer, Lockheed Martin “Thinking In New Boxes discusses what I believe to be one of the fundamental shifts all companies/brands need to be thinking about: how to think creatively, in order to innovate and differentiate our brands. We need to thrive and lead in a world of accelerating change and this book challenges us to even greater creativity in our thinking. One of the best business books I’ve read in a long time.”—Jennifer Fox, CEO, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts “As impressive as teaching new tricks to old dogs, Thinking in New Boxes is both inspirational and practical—a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to sharpening one’s wits in order to harness creativity in the workplace.”—Peter Gelb, general manager, Metropolitan Opera

Book New Horizons in Creativity

Download or read book New Horizons in Creativity written by Shulamith Kreitler and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book is devoted to exploring creativity from several points of view and in a variety of domains that are mostly not discussed in the common approaches to creativity. An endeavor of this kind is of particular importance at the present time which is marked by the occurrence and necessity of changes in many domains of life and social functioning. Creativity is probably a major resource for dealing with the changes in a manner that minimizes suffering and maximizes growth for the individual and for humanity at large. The book includes 13 chapters by world-renowned experts in creativity which present new viewpoints about major processes of creativity and main domains in which it is manifested and needs to be explored. Two of the chapters are devoted to health and well-being, dealing with the role of intuition in medicine (chapter 7), of technology in nursing (chapter 9) and of mindfulness and related techniques in mental well-being (chapter 8). The emotional aspect is counterbalanced by the cognitively-grounded explorations dealing with problem-solving (chapter 11), science and education in mathematics (chapter 10) and with humor (chapter 12) which contributes its share for moderating excessive seriousness in most domains of life. Three chapters deal with organization in terms of work, production (chapters 2 and 3) and perhaps unexpectedly with diplomacy (chapter 4) which provides the overall framework for social and administrative functioning. Creativity in the external environment is the dominant theme of the chapter that deals with the landscape (chapter 5) and ecology (chapter 6). The book is framed by two chapters in the beginning (chapter 1) and at the end (chapter 13). The first chapter provides an introduction to the study of creativity based on the major developmental trends in theory and methodology in the past up to the present (chapter 1). The last chapter provides an integrative introduction for development of creativity in the future, based on motivation, cognition and emotion, characterizing the producers of creativity and those who benefit from it through experiencing and implementation (chapter 13). Each chapter contributes its share to highlighting the role and potential contribution of creativity to enhancing the meaningfulness of our life and being in the world"--

Book Creative Thinking Styles

Download or read book Creative Thinking Styles written by Ibrahim H. Hussney and published by Ibrahim H. Hussney. This book was released on with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What we witness today in the diversity of organizations, businesses, and companies, coupled with the expansion of their activities, aligns with the tremendous and rapid industrial and technological revolution. Especially regarding communication, rapid updates, and the shift towards digital business management. This casts a daunting shadow upon those unable to keep pace with this astonishing progress. This must compel everyone to break free from the shackles of confusion and the constraints of incapacity. Working on bridging the growing knowledge gap is essential. This imperative should drive all organizations, businesses, and companies towards embracing Information and Knowledge Technology widely, entering the era of the knowledge economy. This transition involves establishing specialized units for information and knowledge management, operating around the clock to keep up with consecutive developments that impact the business trajectory. The undeniable truths before us today show that strategic management and strategic thinking have become the topics of paramount interest in the business landscape. This heightened attention is because of the intense competition in markets, the scarcity of resources, and the rapid emergence of local and international changes. These factors cause a discerning management capable of making decisions that align with events or changes affecting organizations, businesses, and companies. We found ourselves today in dire need of exceptional talents who shape events, craft sustainable strategies, set achievable goals, and manage challenging situations with their advanced tools. All of this can only come through a shift in our perspective; moving away from the confines of routine thinking to embrace the vast realm of innovation. Thinking outside the box is required from everyone today. It is the foundation and effective solution for all management problems in its broadest sense. We frequently heard this term, prompting some to question its meaning. But it refers to stepping out of the confines of the issue or problem one is facing. It involves ceasing the repetitive attempts at solving it and confronting the situation as if it did not attach one to it. Just like a person cannot evaluate the exterior paint of a building while being inside, in this scenario, vision is inherently limited.

Book The Republic of Creative Thought

Download or read book The Republic of Creative Thought written by Jd Jones and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-11 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Republic of Creative Thought: How to incorporate creativity in your work and everyday life is a lifelong journey of ideas, mostly from others. We are all it seems, destined to be creative. It might take the right culture, the right environment, the right sunset, or the right person to ask the right questions to enhance creativity. This book looks at techniques that you can use to encourage creativity in your work and in your everyday life. "During my second term as Governor, many of my proposals came from suggestions made by volunteer transition teams and from recommendations made by state employees who wanted to improve the quality of state service. All it took was to let these people be creative and explore new ideas for the future. Creative thinking has made its way into modern industrial management and the creation of wealth. Toyota Production System made its appearance in mid 1977 and has since been referred to as the ultimate production system in the world. They believe it is not the conveyer that operates workers; it is workers who operate a conveyor-the foundation of a human respect environment. Your book and workshops will help to create that right learning environment." Honorable Cecil H. Underwood Former Governor of West Virginia "It is impossible to tell people how to be creative. When they follow your directions, they are being imitative rather than creative. It is possible, however, to lead people to the water of creativity-i.e., to "encourage" creativity. Dr. Jones provides the tools for encouraging adults to be creative. The reader learns how to create the proper environment and how to describe, evaluate, and reward creativity. The workshop suggestions empower readers to lead groups of friends or co-workers to the waters of creativity. Those same ideas may be used by interested readers to expand their capacity to "think outside the box." Dr. Edwin H. Welch President University of Charleston
