Download or read book Management of Technology and Operations written by R. Ray Gehani and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-09-14 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible source of winning technology managementstrategies In Management of Technology and Operations Ray Gehani reveals thebasic principles and best practices applied by toptechnology-driven organizations in the intensely competitive globalmarketplace. Using a model that technologists can relate to --ahigh-performance V-6 engine --he pinpoints the six sources ofcompetitive advantage that determine both short-term survival andmarket leadership over the long term. Then, with the help ofreal-life examples from leading technology-driven organizations, hedemonstrates how these global winners integrate project managementand pioneering leadership to exploit the full potential of each ofthese sources: * Research and development * Production automation and engineering * Information integration * Customer trust and market understanding * Reliability and quality promise * Building the best people. For working engineers and managers in technology-drivenorganizations of any size, this book provides a commonunderstanding of the goals and methods of managing technology andoperations. It is also an excellent text for upper-levelundergraduate and graduate students in science, engineering, andbusiness.

Book excerpt: Exploratory surveys (geochemical and geophysical) are important and basic steps in the mineral exploration; The importance of this stage includes several reasons that are intertwined; First, the precision and accuracy of the measured data compared to the investigated community, whether they are representative of it or not, and can the data be used as representative of the community in future studies? Second, the density of exploratory surveys that is directly related to management resources (Time, cost, human and equipment); Third, the exact location of the exploration, which must be purposefully selected, so that optimal results can be obtained by spending the least amount of resources.

Download or read book The Magic Ring written by Piero Mella and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 875 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a new understanding on how control systems truly operate, and explains how to recognize, simulate, and improve control systems in all fields of activity. It also reveals the pervasive, ubiquitous and indispensable role of control processes in our life and the need to develop a “control-oriented thinking”—based on uncomplicated but effective models derived from systems thinking—that is, a true “discipline of control.” Over the book’s thirteen chapters, Piero Mella shows that there are simple control systems (rather than complex ones) that can easily help us to manage complexity without drawing upon more sophisticated control systems. It begins by reviewing the basic language of systems thinking and the models it allows users to create. It then introduces the control process, presenting the theoretical structure of three simple control systems we all can observe in order to gain fundamental knowledge from them about the basic structure of a control system. Then, it presents the anatomy of the simplest “magic ring” and the general theoretical model of any control system. This is followed by an introduction to a general typology of control systems and a broader view of control systems by investigating multi-lever control systems and multi-objective systems. The book undertakes the concepts through various environments, increasingly broader in scope to suggest to readers how to recognize therein control systems manifestations in everyday life and in natural phenomena. Updated for the 2nd edition, new chapters explore control systems regulating the biological environment and the organizations, with an in-depth study of the control of quality, productivity, production, stocks and costs. Finally, it concludes by dealing with the learning process, problem-solving, and designing the logical structure of control systems.
