Book Islamic Economics

Download or read book Islamic Economics written by Abul Hassan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive study, which provides informed knowledge within the field of Islamic economics. The authors lay down the principal philosophical foundation of a unique and universal theory of Islamic economics by contrasting it with the perspectives of mainstream economics. The methodological part of the theory of Islamic economics arises from the ethical foundations of the Qur'an and the Sunnah (tradition of the Prophet) along with learned exegeses in an epistemological derivation of the postulates and formalism of Islamic economics. This foundational methodology will be contrasted with the contemporary approaches of the random use of mainstream economic theory in Islamic economics. The book establishes the methodological foundation as the primal and most fundamental premise of the study leading to scientific formalism and the prospect of its application. By way of its Islamic epistemological explanation (philosophical premise) in the form of logical formalism and the use of simple real-world examples, the authors show the reader that the scientific nature of economics in general and Islamic economics in particular rests on the conception of the scientific worldview. With its uniquely comparative approach to mainstream economics, this book facilitates a greater understanding of Islamic economic concepts. Senior undergraduate and graduate students will gain exposure to Islamic perspectives of micro- and macroeconomics, money, public finance, and development economics. Additionally, this book will be useful to practitioners seeking a greater comprehension of the nature of Islamic economics. It will also enable policymakers to better understand the mechanism of converting institutions, such as public and social policy perspectives.

Book Studies in Islamic Economics

Download or read book Studies in Islamic Economics written by Ahmed Akgunduz and published by IUR Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This book contains two major subjects: Firstly; some academic papers about Islamic Banking. The main characteristic of Islamic banking in comparison to traditional banking is that it is more concerned with the profitability and length of the proposed investment rather than collateral. Projects with high profitability and low collateral that might otherwise be rejected can be funded through Islamic banking. This leads to a banking behavior that is similar to development banks and microfinance institutions that have been very successful in many Third World countries. Academic research shows that Islamic banking is not a negligible or merely temporary phenomenon. (Contributors: Dr. M. Umer Chapra, Dr. Ahmet Akgündüz, Arjen van Klink, Drs. Bastiaan A. Verhoef and Ismail Özsoy). Secondly; some research articles about religion and development. Islam summarizes the root cause of the great social upheavals that have been suffered, particularly in this century, in two phrases. One is: “So long as I’m full, what is it to me if others die of hunger?” And the other is: “You struggle and labor so that I can live in ease and comfort.” Islam demonstrates that if hunger and poverty are to be eradicated, it will be through applying the Qur’anic injunction of almsgiving, social assistance and mutual help (vujub-u zakat): Being steadfast in performing prayers, giving zakat and the prohibition against earning without working, e.g., usury and interest (hurmet-i Ribâ: God has permitted trade and forbidden usury).” (Contributors: Dr. Ahmet Akgündüz, Dr. Arif Ersoy, Dr. Haşmet Başar and Dr. Bunyamin Duran).

Book Labor Economics in an Islamic Framework

Download or read book Labor Economics in an Islamic Framework written by Toseef Azid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The labor market in Islam is governed by the Islamic laws of fairness, justice, and reward that is equivalent to the job done. Most of the literature in the field discusses the normative aspect of the labor market, whereas few attempts can be seen to address more positive aspects. There is a need for new theoretical and empirical models for the Islamic labor market, which should differ from established approaches. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the nature, scope, and dimensions of the labor market in an Islamic context, from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It presents and discusses labor economics and then compares the similarities and differences between conventional and Islamic views of the labor market, explaining where they meet, and critically justifying why they differ, under the umbrella of Shari'ah. The book raises pertinent issues, which it analyzes from both standpoints and widens the discourse to include norms, morality, and related institutions such as social security and welfare. A unique feature of the book is that it examines labor economics practices among a specific group of countries, and studies the labor conditions within these countries, where the majority of the population follow the teachings of Islam in their daily lives. The book proposes practical strategies for the development of new models for the Islamic labor market which are compatible with the modern world. The book will enable academics and practitioners of Islamic economics to make economic sense of Shari'ah compliance and human resource development.

Book The Making of Islamic Economic Thought

Download or read book The Making of Islamic Economic Thought written by Sami Al-Daghistani and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-06 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interrogating the development and conceptual framework of economic thought in the Islamic tradition pertaining to ethical, philosophical, and theological ideas, this book provides a critique of modern Islamic economics as a hybrid economic system. From the outset, Sami Al-Daghistani is concerned with the polyvalent methodology of studying the phenomenon of Islamic economic thought as a human science in that it nurtures a complex plentitude of meanings and interpretations associated with the moral self. By studying legal scholars, theologians, and Sufis in the classical period, Al-Daghistani looks at economic thought in the context of Sharī'a's moral law. Alongside critiquing modern developments of Islamic economics, he puts forward an idea for a plural epistemology of Islam's moral economy, which advocates for a multifaceted hermeneutical reading of the subject in light of a moral law, embedded in a particular cosmology of human relationality, metaphysical intelligibility, and economic subjectivity.
