Book Statistical Methods in Water Resources

Download or read book Statistical Methods in Water Resources written by D.R. Helsel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1993-03-03 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on water quality and other environmental issues are being collected at an ever-increasing rate. In the past, however, the techniques used by scientists to interpret this data have not progressed as quickly. This is a book of modern statistical methods for analysis of practical problems in water quality and water resources. The last fifteen years have seen major advances in the fields of exploratory data analysis (EDA) and robust statistical methods. The 'real-life' characteristics of environmental data tend to drive analysis towards the use of these methods. These advances are presented in a practical and relevant format. Alternate methods are compared, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each as applied to environmental data. Techniques for trend analysis and dealing with water below the detection limit are topics covered, which are of great interest to consultants in water-quality and hydrology, scientists in state, provincial and federal water resources, and geological survey agencies. The practising water resources scientist will find the worked examples using actual field data from case studies of environmental problems, of real value. Exercises at the end of each chapter enable the mechanics of the methodological process to be fully understood, with data sets included on diskette for easy use. The result is a book that is both up-to-date and immediately relevant to ongoing work in the environmental and water sciences.

Book Modernizing Global Agro Ecological Zoning with new methods Report of proceedings 24 March 2022

Download or read book Modernizing Global Agro Ecological Zoning with new methods Report of proceedings 24 March 2022 written by ?Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2022-08-06 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Agro-Ecological Zoning version 4 (GAEZ v4), launched on 17 June 2021 uses well-established land evaluation principles to assess natural resources for finding suitable agricultural land utilization options. It is based on agro-climatic assessments, crop modelling, natural and human resources, crop statistics and water use at global scale. With the increasing complexity and intensity of environmental and social challenges an improved understanding of the biophysical determinants for agricultural management decisions including physical drivers of climate change is necessary. The main strategic goal of GAEZ v5 is to make the outputs of the system available to national entities to support wise land use decision-making. To this end, supported by a GAEZ Partnership, GAEZ v5 will provide dynamically updated AEZ information, to meet local to global level AEZ users’ needs. To refine the overall GAEZ assessment, there was an initial consultation on the data used for GAEZ v5 in December 2021. Additional recommendations for updates, refinements and extensions of approaches and modules are listed in the Appendix 1-1 (“Recommendations for further GAEZ development”) of the GAEZ v4 Model Documentation.

Book Trends in Mathematics and Computational Intelligence

Download or read book Trends in Mathematics and Computational Intelligence written by María Eugenia Cornejo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents appealing contributions on computational intelligence and mathematics, connecting both areas and offering solutions to a number of interesting, real-world problems. Such problems often require novel solutions, as complexity exceeds the tractable size. At the same time, the need for good-quality realistic solutions results in models and algorithms with a good balance of resource intensiveness and model quality (accuracy). Many areas of knowledge call for hybrid solutions that combine traditional mathematical techniques and computational intelligence based on subsymbolic knowledge representation. Important research topics are focused on developing the interaction between computational intelligence and mathematics, in order to address various challenges of the current technological age. Written by influential, leading researchers, this book discusses the latest trends in hybridising mathematics and computational intelligence.

Book excerpt: "Communicating radical innovation is very different from discussing marginal change. Erwin's book provides a serious analysis of why, in this era of VUCA—Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity—we need to change our individual and organizational modes of communication. Erwin then provides a series of concrete, practical communication methodologies that we so need. Communicating the New is a book that needs to be offered in all of our best business-school classes." —Bruce Nussbaum, author of Creative Intelligence, former assistant managing editor for BusinessWeek, and Professor of Innovation & Design at Parsons The New School of Design "One of the main problems with executing innovation in organizations is also one of the least obvious. Communicating The New reminds us about an often neglected but crucial part in the innovation process. Applying the principles contained in this book will increase your chances for innovation success, both inside your company—overcoming organizational barriers, as well as outside—convincing your customers. This is an essential read for those who not only preach for improving the current state of things, but more important to those responsible for executing it." —Luis Arnal, Managing Partner, INSITUM "I was hooked instantly. The names of people that I should give this book to keep building with each new chapter. Communicating the New is thorough as well as thoughtful in providing an impressive compendium of models, framework, methods, and tools for navigating the 21st-century challenges of creating The New. Book Modern Compiler Implementation in Java

Download or read book Modern Compiler Implementation in Java written by Andrew W. Appel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-10-21 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook describes all phases of a compiler: lexical analysis, parsing, abstract syntax, semantic actions, intermediate representations, instruction selection via tree matching, dataflow analysis, graph-coloring register allocation, and runtime systems. It includes good coverage of current techniques in code generation and register allocation, as well as the compilation of functional and object-oriented languages, that is missing from most books. The most accepted and successful techniques are described concisely, rather than as an exhaustive catalog of every possible variant, and illustrated with actual Java classes. This second edition has been extensively rewritten to include more discussion of Java and object-oriented programming concepts, such as visitor patterns. A unique feature is the newly redesigned compiler project in Java, for a subset of Java itself. The project includes both front-end and back-end phases, so that students can build a complete working compiler in one semester.
