Book A Revision of the Nearctic Species of the Genus Trixoscelis Rondani Diptera Heleomyzidae Trixoscelidinae

Download or read book A Revision of the Nearctic Species of the Genus Trixoscelis Rondani Diptera Heleomyzidae Trixoscelidinae written by George Arnold Foster and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nearctic species of the genus Trixoscelis Rondani are revised. Thirteen new species are described, seven new combinations and three new synonyms are proposed, and three species groups are characterized. Keys to the 38 known species are provided. Diagnoses, detailed distributional data for the species of the genus, notes on the biology, and illustrations (photographs and drawings) are included to assist species identification. A phylogenetic analysis was performed to test the monophyly of the genus Trixoscelis and the included species groups. The ingroup includes a total of 38 exemplar species. Outgroup sampling includes the following exemplar genera: Neossos, Waterhousea, Fenwickia, Aneuria, and Xenura. Analyses, including implied weighting, recovered a monophyletic Trixoscelis and species groups if the Mongolian genus Paratrixoscelis is included within Trixoscelis.

Book excerpt: The World Catalogue of the Conopidae offers the first complete list of this Diptera family worldwide since 1919. 808 recent and fossil species, together with their synonyms, belonging to 57 genera are listed. All original descriptions have been verified by the author. Type material and its depository is described for every species, the published distribution for each species is documented at the country level, and a complete list of references is provided for every record. Published information concerning hosts, possible hosts and egg carriers is compiled, with some 309 host species being reported for 73 species of Conopidae. With more than 1450 literature citations, this catalogue presents by far the most complete taxonomic assessment of this family produced to date.

Book Ecomorphology of Cyclorrhaphan Larvae Diptera

Download or read book Ecomorphology of Cyclorrhaphan Larvae Diptera written by Graham E. Rotheray and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-21 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an overview of the larva of Diptera Cyclorrhapha. It first discusses the principal forms, functions and roles of larvae, and then evaluates feeding, locomotion and respiration in larval saprophages, phytophages and zoophages as keys to understanding and predicting larval morphology. It also highlights how the environment affects morphology, the adaptiveness of morphological features and compares the adaptive features. Assessing the larval attributes that have the potential to explain the success of the Cyclorrhapha, the book also suggests future research directions and provides a summary of main findings and conclusions. As such, it appeals to entomologists, evolutionary biologists and Diptera researchers in all fields.

Book Drosophilidae Diptera

Download or read book Drosophilidae Diptera written by Irina Brake and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-01-21 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerns about global biodiversity are rising dramatically, yet we are lagging behind in the most basic prerequisite for its understanding and conservation: the inventory. Insect species may make up five or ten times the number of all other plant and animal species combined, and as such they represent one of the major challenges in biosystematic science. World Catalogue of Insects is an initiative aiming at compiling worldscale, authoritative catalogues of monophyletic insect taxa. Volumes in this series contain standard nomenclatoral information on all names pertaining to the taxon treated, including type locality and distribution to the extent this is relevant. Additional information is optional, e.g., location, status and condition of types; biology; bibliographical information; pest status; vector status; etc. This volume nine focuses on Drosophilidae (Diptera). (Series: World Catalogue of Insects)
