Book Fast Neutron Spectrum of the AFRRI TRIGA Reactor

Download or read book Fast Neutron Spectrum of the AFRRI TRIGA Reactor written by A. Edward Profio and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The angular flux spectrum was measured in a 43 cm sphere filled with the mixture ZrH1.9O0.3Fe0.1A10.05B0.01' representing the approximate homogenized TRIGA reactor core composition (without uranium, and with boron added for thermal neutron absorption). The sphere was reflected with 5.08 cm of water. A 7.6 cm diameter depleted uranium target embedded at the center, excited by a 20 nsec pulsed electron beam for a Linac, was the neutron source for the time-of-flight experiment (50 meter flight distance). Detectors were a 5 by 5 cm liquid scintillator for spectra from 0.4-14 MeV, and a boron capture gamma ray detector for 0.1-0.5 MeV. Measurements were made at 7.6 cm penetration (0 and 51 degrees to the radius vector), at the core-reflector interface, and at the surface of the reflector (0 and 46 degrees). Calculations of the spectrum in the experimental assembly were made with the GAPLSN S sub n code in S8, with 20-group P3 cross sections from the GAM-II code. Comparisons between calculations and experiment were made to decide on the angular mesh, order of anisotropic scattering approximation, energy grouping, and cross sections for a similar calculation of the critical TRIGA reactor spectrum. Results of the calculated cylindrical geometry, P3, S8 angular flux spectrum and total leakage spectrum at the surface of the reflector are tabulated. (Author).

Book Neutron and Gamma ray Dosimetry in an Animal Exposure Volume at a Pulsed Triga Reactor

Download or read book Neutron and Gamma ray Dosimetry in an Animal Exposure Volume at a Pulsed Triga Reactor written by R. E. Simpson and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The distribution of steady-state and pulsed, neutron and gamma-ray dose was measured in an animal exposure volume at the TRIGA reactor. The usable volume was restricted to the lower 20 in. of an aluminum irradiation tube having an ID of 9-1/2 in. The tube was inserted into the pool adjacent to the reactor void tank, 134 cm from the core. Dosimetry films were used to determine gamma-ray dose while Sievert ionization chambers were used to determine neutron dose. Gold foils were used to measure the thermal neutron flux. Neutron doses were referenced to sulphur foil monitors. The neutron spectrum was examined with a system of threshold detectors and compared with spectra from Godiva II and the biological port of the Argonne CP-5 reactor. The vertical variation of dose along a lucite board was measured at the midplane of a lucite canister lowered into the tube. The dose in the lower 16 in. varied less than 5%. The ratio of neutron to gamma dose was approximately 6 to 1. A tissue equivalent dog phantom, 20 in. long and 7-1/2 in. in diameter, was designed to determine the absorbed dose in depth. The fast neutron dose was about equal to the gamma-ray dose at the midline of the phantom. The neutron plus gamma-ray dose at the midline was 44% of the dose at the front surface of the phantom. Book Neutron Spectral Measurements by Magnetic Analysis of Recoil Protons

Download or read book Neutron Spectral Measurements by Magnetic Analysis of Recoil Protons written by C. M. Cialella and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spectral distribution of neutrons from the TRIGA Mark F Reactor at the U.S. Army Harry Diamond Laboratories was measured with a magnetic neutron spectrometer. This instrument is a broad range, low deflection spectrometer which utilizes the magnetic analysis of protons recoiling from a thin polyethylene radiator. The spectrometer will cover an energy range from 0.5 to 17 MeV with a single magnetic field setting. The spectrometer has an array of 40 solid-state detectors placed along the focal line and includes the associated electronics. This provides the instrument with the capability of measuring the entire spectrum from either pulsed or steady state sources. Measurements of the neutron spectrum with the reactor in the steady state mode were made using four radiators of different thicknesses. Measurements were made of the power output of the reactor in the pulse mode. The width of the reactor pulse was measured to be 11.0 ms (full width at half maximum). (Author).

Book Flux Measurements in the Oregon State TRIGA Reactor

Download or read book Flux Measurements in the Oregon State TRIGA Reactor written by Gary Lamont Upham and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutron flux and gamma-ray dose have been measured in the experimental facilities of the Oregon State TRIGA reactor. Thermal neutron flux measurements utilized foil activation techniques. The gamma-ray dose was measured with a thermoluminescent dosimetry system. The thermoluminescent material used was LiF. Fast neutron spectrum measurements were performed. The fast flux measurements utilized threshold detectors. The activation data from the various threshold detectors was analyzed using the Effective Threshold Method. Fast flux measurements were made only in the in-core and near-core experimental facilities (where a fission spectrum was assumed to exist).
