Book Neutron Flux Spectra Determination by Foil Activation Volume I n Advanced Foil Activation Method of Determining Neutron Flux Spectra Or Radiation Effects Studies

Download or read book Neutron Flux Spectra Determination by Foil Activation Volume I n Advanced Foil Activation Method of Determining Neutron Flux Spectra Or Radiation Effects Studies written by W. N. McElroy and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The qualitative aspects of the activation technique of neutron flux spectral determination are well known. The quantitative aspects are not so well known. In part, the failure of correlation and subsequent understanding of neutron radiation effect studies is attributed to a lack of adequate knowledge about the form of neutron environments. An Advanced Activation Method of Neutron Flux Spectral Determination based on the use of updated and more accurate cross section data and activation measurements is presented. This method will permit the definition of neutron flux spectral forms with increased accuracy for radiation effect studies. The results of error analysis studies on methods of foil activity data reduction and requirements on the accuracy of activation detector cross section data and activity measurements are presented and discussed. The appendixes of this volume contain tabulated data that are necessary for the performance of Step I of the advanced method of foil activation data reduction. Volume II of this report presents and discusses the updated evaluated cross section data. Volume III discusses the computer code required for the performance of Step II of the advanced method. Volume IV presents the results of Tory II-C flux spectral measurements using the advanced method of data reduction. (Author).

Book Neutron Flux Spectra Determination by Foil Activation Volume Ii Experiental and Evaluated Cross Section Library of Selected Reactions

Download or read book Neutron Flux Spectra Determination by Foil Activation Volume Ii Experiental and Evaluated Cross Section Library of Selected Reactions written by R. C. Barrall and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey was made of nuclear reactions which may be used in measuring neutron flux spectra and fluence. An important application of these data is the determination of neutron flux spectra and fluence for application to radiation effects studies (including dose to tissue). Published microscopic cross section data for 28 reactions have been compiled and are shown graphically. The evaluation of the microscopic data is shown by a line through the data. A tabulation of the evaluated cross section library is provided. Measured values of the resonance integral for selected reactions are reviewed and compared with resonance integrals calculated using the evaluated cross section library. The effects of 0.508, 1.016, and 2.032 mm thick cadmium are discussed. Average cross sections for boron-10 covered foils are calculated. The average cross sections of the 28 reactions in a fission spectrum is calculated. (Author).

Book A Computer automated Iterative Method for Neutron Flux Spectra Determination by Foil Activation Volume 1 a Study of the Iterative Method

Download or read book A Computer automated Iterative Method for Neutron Flux Spectra Determination by Foil Activation Volume 1 a Study of the Iterative Method written by W. N. McElroy and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multiple foil activation iterative method has been developed to determine neutron flux spectra. A computer code (SAND II) has been written which provides a 'best fit' neutron differential flux spectrum for a given input set of infinitely dilute foil activities. The results of experimental and analytical studies for a wide variety of neutron environments strongly suggest that, in addition to determining neutron flux spectra, the multiple foil activation iterative method can be helpful in (1) the validation and improvement of calculational techniques used to predict flux spectra; (2) upgrading of confidence in neutron spectrometer measurements; (3) determining the reliability of foil activity measurements methods; (4) assessing material scattering/ absorption effects; and (5) examining current foil detector cross section evaluations to provide guidance for re-evaluation for these data, and eventual 'unfolding' of the absolute differential form of cross sections for any foil reactions producing a detectable product.

Book Activation Analysis Handbook

Download or read book Activation Analysis Handbook written by R Koch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Activation Analysis Handbook focuses on the importance of activation analysis in the examination of trace elements in materials. The book contains examples of activation analysis techniques and application of these techniques to provide solutions to problems in various scientific disciplines. Divided into four chapters, the book starts by giving an outline of the history and growth of activation analysis, including the general technique involved. The discussions proceed by taking into consideration the theoretical aspects of activation analysis, giving emphasis to basic concepts, sources of nuclear data and experimental methods, and selection of activation reactions. The book also considers the experimental methods in activation analysis. Other topics discussed are irradiation facilities; the preparation and encapsulation of samples; irradiations; and post-irradiation assays. The last part deals with the tabulation of elements and their corresponding atomic numbers; the key to tabulation; and a tabulation of nuclear data and experimental methods for activation analysis. The text is a good source of data for readers who are interested in activation analysis.

Book Characterization of Neutron Flux Spectra for Radiation Effects Studies

Download or read book Characterization of Neutron Flux Spectra for Radiation Effects Studies written by Joseph Turner Graham and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of neutron displacement damage on materials are sensitive to neutron energy spectra. In controlled neutron damage experiments, a well characterized neutron flux spectrum is critical in determining the equivalent dose for displacement damage. Two techniques were used to characterize the neutron flux spectra in the University of Texas at Austin TRIGA research nuclear reactor. The first technique uses a standard method of measuring the reaction rates of two identical metal foils, one of which was irradiated in a Cd cover, the other of which was irradiated bare. Assuming an analytic form of the neutron spectrum the reaction rates were used to determine an approximate spectrum. The second technique uses the reaction rates measured from a set of activated metal foils along with two spectral unfolding techniques to approximate and then refine the neutron spectrum. A Matlab code was developed which fits radiative capture reaction rates to an approximate spectrum using a least squares approach. The result was used as an initial guess in a second Matlab code which refines the epithermal and fast energy ranges of the spectrum using reaction rates from threshold reactions. Errors in the reaction rates calculated from the resulting spectrum to the measured reaction rates were used to assess the accuracy of the final neutron spectrum.
