Book Neuroimmunomodulation

Download or read book Neuroimmunomodulation written by Samuel McDonald McCann and published by . This book was released on 1997-12-31 with total page 888 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of neuroimmunomodulation is devoted to interactions between the immune nervous systems at all levels and includes observation on brain, pituitary, peripheral nervous system and immune cells. Nitric oxide synthase is contained within neurons in the brain and modifies behavioural and hormonal responses by acting on other neurons and on release of peptides and other transmitters through activation of guanylate cyclase and cyclooxygenase. Increases in this and in expression of proinflammatory cytokines can contribute to damage in patients with multiple sclerosis, Parkinsonism, meningitis, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease.

Book excerpt: This volume highlights the proceedings of the 7th International Congress of the International Society for Neuroimmunomodulation. The volume provides an overview current research in neural and endocrine mechanisms of immune regulation as well as the effects of peripheral and central immune responses on brain function. Of particular interest are the mechanisms by which local and systemic inflammation act upon the brain, and in turn, how the brain regulates inflammation via direct innervation and release of humoral factors. Book Neuroimmunomodulation

Download or read book Neuroimmunomodulation written by Ario Conti and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 1016 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings focus on different areas of research, with special emphasis on relating the state of the art (basic) neuroimmunomodulation research to its potential practical application in specific fields. Among these, the role of pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the central nervous system; peripheral mechanisms of neuroimmunomodulation; behavioural studies and immunity; and neuroimmunomodulation correlates in autoimmune disease represent areas of particular interest. Also highlighted are studies related to the role of melatonin as an immunomodulatory hormone (an area of explosive growth), as well as the emerging field of neuroendocrine regulation of haematopoiesis. Clinical studies in cancer, allergy, AIDs and other infectious diseases will focus upon neuroimmunomodulation-based mechanisms, and suggest new therapeutic approaches.

Book Neuroimmunomodulation in Health and Disease

Download or read book Neuroimmunomodulation in Health and Disease written by International Society for Neuroimmunomodulation. Congress and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Many studies have now illustrated the importance of the equilibrium between the interacting immune, nervous, and endocrine systems for integrated physiology and homeostasis, and alterations in this equilibrium are implicated in the pathogenesis of several autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. This Annals volume presents recent research discussed at the 9th Congress of the International Society for Neuroimmunomodulation, held on September 25-27, 2014, in Liege, Belgium, which brought together international academic and industry scientists studying the communication and regulatory mechanisms integrating the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems in both health and disease. The papers in this volume cover a range of topics in neuroimmunomodulation, including inflammation, gastrointestinal physiology, and behavior; inflammatory mediators and chronic pain; metabolic and neuroendocrine disorders in HIV; cytokines/chemokines in the central and peripheral nervous system; glia and neuroinflammation; therapeutic interventions in neuroimmunological diseases; aging and neuroimmunomodulation; epigenetics, inflammation, and mental health; stress and immunity; and psychiatric disorders and immunity."--Résumé de l'éditeur.

Book Neuroimunomodulation in Health and Disease II

Download or read book Neuroimunomodulation in Health and Disease II written by Adriana del Rey and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 2012-09-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of two Annals volume (see also Volume 1262) of papers by speakers at the 8th International Society for Neuroimmodulation Congress held in Dresden, Germany, October 2011. The papers focus on interactions among the immune, endocrine, and nervous systems that occur at multiple levels, from intracellular pathways by immune and neuro-endocrine mediators, to the exchange of information between the three systems that results in physiologic and adaptive effects. In certain instances, however, these interactions may be unbalanced or even disrupted, which can contribute to pathology, and aspects of such pathobiology are presented in some of the contributions. This volume aims focuses on translational science aspects of immune-neuro-endocrine interactions. NOTE: Annals volumes are available for sale as individual books or as a journal. Book Neuroimmunomodulation in Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Download or read book Neuroimmunomodulation in Neurodevelopmental Disorders written by Carmem Gottfried and published by S. Karger AG (Switzerland). This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this special issue, distinguished researchers discuss 'immune subjects' relevant to the pathophysiology and etiology of neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions. The articles provide insight into neuroimmune alterations found in several psychiatric disorders, e.g. depression. Analyses of clinical findings linking perinatal infections and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are presented as are results related to immune alterations in one of the main models for the study of ASD, with a decrease in T cells in the lymph nodes. A comprehensive list of potential therapeutic interventions is presented in light of increasing frequency of immune alterations in patients with ASD. The articles in this issue address the interrelationships among neuroimmunomodulation, developmental, and psychiatric conditions. They highlight conceptual pitfalls and puzzling new and outstanding questions and directions for further research. The alternative approach presented in this publication will, hopefully, be insightful and exciting to all interested in neurology, immunology, and psychiatry.

Book Neuroendocrine and Immune Crosstalk Volume 1088

Download or read book Neuroendocrine and Immune Crosstalk Volume 1088 written by International Society for Neuroimmunomodulation. Meeting and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 2006-12-04 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crosstalk between the neuroendocrine and immune systems plays an essential role in inflammatory, autoimmune, and allergic diseases. An international group of scientists from the fields of neurobiology, neuroendocrinology, immunology, and behavioral sciences reports here on recent advances in our understanding of the communication and modulation taking place between the neuroendocrine and immunological systems. In an effort to incorporate all recent knowledge in this field, broad aspects of endocrinology and neuropsychiatric and autoimmune disorders is included, with special attention given to recent progress in molecular biology and genetics. In particular, the volume focuses on diseases of the nervous system and their modulation by the immune and endocrine systems, as well as on the neuroimmunomodulation of inflammatory, autoimmune, and allergic diseases with an emphasis on the female gender. Special care has been taken by the editors to balance basic and clinical information. The volume is divided into sections: the cytokine and neuropeptide signal transduction systems and their immunomodulatory properties, the neuroendocrine immune basis of rheumatic disease, models of inflammation, the immunology of neuropsychiatric and allergic disorders, neuroendocrine and autoimmune adaptations in aging, neuroimmune interactions in chronic pain disorders and infectious diseases, and finally a structural and functional overview of the stress system. Clinical applications have been extrapolated from the basic knowledge and physiology of neuroimmune interactions, so this volume will provide a useful update for both researchers and clinicians.
