Download or read book Silvicultural Systems for the Production of Energy Biomass in Conventional Operations in Atlantic Canada written by Pierre Zundel and published by Canadian Government Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents an analysis of silvicultural systems designed to produce energy biomass from conventional forestry operations in Atlantic Canada. It also analyzes policy changes and incentives that might make biomass energy more attractive in the region. This report also serves as a model for other stand-level studies of this type to be carried out in Canada, and therefore methodological issues such as the appropriate scale and point of view from which to evaluate biomass energy are discussed.

Download or read book Production of Whole tree Chips for Energy written by Christian Gamborg and published by Scientific and Techn. This book was released on 1998 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents findings of a review study in Denmark of silvicultural systems that may increase the production of wood for energy from conventional forestry. Assesses the effect of selected silvicultural factors, such as tree species, thinning program, and especially plant density and the use of nurse trees, on wood chip production from whole trees. Current practice and options used to optimize chip production are described for stands of Norway spruce, with and without nurse trees (larch); and for planted beech, with nurse trees or using natural regeneration.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our knowledge of the functional characteristics of the plants of mediterranean-cl imate regions has increased greatly in the past decade. In recent times the possibility of large-scale util ization of biomass for energy from these regions has been proposed. In order to assess the feasibil ity of these proposals we must consider the productive structure of these plant communities and how they vary through time and space. This symposium was an attempt to examine our recently acquired basic knowledge of the environmental I imitations on the productivity of Mediterranean plant communities in relation to the consequences of the possible util ization of these communities for energy and chemicals. Specifically in this book we examine the mechanisms by which plants of mediterranean-cl imate regions maintain their productive capacity under the prevail ing conditions of summer draught and winter cold. We consider the characteristics of leaves, their history, morphology and plasticity. Evergreen sclerophyll leaves are common to the dominant plants of all mediterranean-cl imate regions and thus they have significance in terms of enhancing carbon gain and water-use efficiency as well as ensuring survival under the prevail ing cl imatic conditions.
Download or read book Bioenergy and Boreal Forest Management written by Canadian Forest Service. Science Branch and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents papers from a technical session at a workshop highlighting the silvicultural strategies and forest management practices available in the boreal forest to increase the potential supply of wood for fuel from managed and unmanaged stands. Topics of papers include the forest biomass energy options for remote communities, evaluating sustainability of forest production when logging residues are used for energy, bioenergy for a remote First Nations community, wood fuel from early thinning and plantation clearing, biomass utilization in mixed stands in Sweden, and impacts of fuelwood harvesting on forest management in Finland.
