Book excerpt: This engaging new biography dispels many myths surrounding Nehru, and distinguishes between the icon he has become and the politician he actually was. Benjamin Zachariah places Nehru in the context of the issues of his time, including the central theme of nationalism, the impact of Cold War pressures on India and the transition from colonial control to a precarious independence. How did Jawaharlal Nehru come to lead the Indian nationalist movement, and how did he sustain his leadership as the first Prime Minister of independent India? Nehru's vision of India, its roots in Indian politics and society, as well as its viability have been central to historical and present-day views of India. Connecting the domestic and international aspects of his political life and ideology, this study provides a fascinating insight into Nehru, his times and his legacy.

Book Explorations in Nehruvian Thought

Download or read book Explorations in Nehruvian Thought written by V. T. Patil and published by South Asia Books. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After Gandhi, if there was any person who left an indelible impression on the Indian polity, both during the independence struggle as well as afterwards, it was Jawaharlal Nehru, a fiery meteor in the Indian firmament. Rightly described as the architect of modern India, Nehru has left behind him a legacy that has both positive as well as negative dimensions. A charismatic leader, he applied his thought process to contemporary Indian political, social, economic and other problems in oder to effect conditions of economic development, a stable political order and an atmosphere of social stbility. Nehru's concerns are relevant today especially when the individual is pitted against the nation and the nation against the Indian state. Nehru's concern with science and technology, rapid industrialisation secularism, individual freedom ina democratic set up, indigenous nationalism, economic planning etc, were evident during his participation in the freedom struggle and subsequently as Prime Minister of Independent India for seventeen eyars Nehru's nationalism was synonymous too with ideas on Internationalism-hence his enunciation of the policy of non-alignment which made a distinctie contribution to world affairs. In the process he raised the status of India as a dominant moral force in world affairs and he himself became a world statesman of a very high order.

Book The Political Philosophy of Jawaharlal Nehru

Download or read book The Political Philosophy of Jawaharlal Nehru written by M N Das and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1961, The Political Philosophy of Jawaharlal Nehru is an attempt to coordinate Jawaharlal Nehru's ideas which, in essence, reflect his political philosophy. Nehru distinguished himself as a philosopher-politician, thinking somewhat as a philosopher while working as a politician, steering his political ideas between idealism and realism. In an eventful life, his had been the many-sided role of a revolutionary and a nationalist, a democrat and a socialist, an internationalist and a pacifist, a head of the government and, above all, a lone individual and thinker. Nehru preserved his individuality through all external influences, including those of Gandhi and Marx, and it is this which remains the keynote of his thought. It has been the aim of the author to present in an objective way the ideas of the man in the light of his own words as available from a wide range of material. This book will be of interest to students of history, political science, and philosophy.

Book Jawaharlal Nehru

Download or read book Jawaharlal Nehru written by S. R. Bakshi and published by Anmol Publications PVT. LTD.. This book was released on 1990 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Long-Drawn Political Struggle For Complete Independence Of The Subcontinent Jawaharlal Nehru S Contribution Is Most Significant. Not Taken Any Interest In The Legal Practice After His Law Degree From England, He Jointed The Freedom Struggle Under The Leadership Of Mahatma Gandhi. In His Formative Years, The Ghastly And Gruesome Tragedy In The Jallianwala Bagh At Amritsar Greatly Touched Upon His Sensitive Mind Which Made Him To Formulate An Anti-Raj Stance In The Coming Three Decades. The Coming Years Were Most Hectic For Nehru And Several Other Leaders Who Were Busy In Three Major Movements In Our Country. His Anti-Raj Stance Tinged With Sincere Identification With Numerous Causes Of The Masses Of India Won For Him Spontaneous Respect From One And All, In Fact After The Lahore Congress, 1929, He Assumed The Leadership Of The Congress Along With Mahatma Gandhi Who Showered His Love And Respect For Him In The Later Years. Thus After A Long Struggle For Independence, He Was The Natural Choice To Head The Interim Government In 1946.
