Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Life is negotiation. Life is all about our interactions with others-family, friends, colleagues and most significantly, God-on our way to greater understanding, cooperation and intimacy. From his informed perspectives on both faith and the law, Kevin Rachel-a Christian attorney-traces the often neglected theme of negotiation throughout Scripture, exploring the many instances of men and women wrestling with the will of Almighty God. In his personal and appealing style, Kevin employs a first-rate storytelling ability to invite us into the lives of people determined to draw nearer to the God who, incredibly, welcomes us to the negotiating table. 'Ask! Seek! Knock!' said God when He walked among us. 'Explore my will! Communicate with me! Engage with me!' Along the way, Negotiating with God asks us to examine more honestly many of our fundamental and formative values : our assumptions about God, our prayer practices, our motives and behaviors in seeking resolution with one another, our uses of power, our understanding of Jesus our Mediator and ultimately, our willingness to submit our wills to the Sovereign Lord of All" -- p. [4] of cover.

Book Divine Programming

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the mid-90s to the present, television drama with religious content has come to reflect the growing cultural divide between white middle-America and concentrated urban elites. As author Charlotte E. Howell argues in this book, by 2016, television narratives of white Christianity had become entirely disconnected from the religion they were meant to represent. Programming labeled 'family-friendly' became a euphemism for white, middlebrow America, and developing audience niches became increasingly significant to serial dramatic television. Utilizing original case studies and interviews, Divine Programming investigates the development, writing, producing, marketing, and positioning of key series including 7th Heaven, Friday Night Lights, Rectify, Supernatural, Jane the Virgin, Daredevil, and Preacher. As this book shows, there has historically been a deep ambivalence among television production cultures regarding religion and Christianity more specifically. It illustrates how middle-American television audiences lost significance within the Hollywood television industry and how this in turn has informed and continues to inform television programming on a larger scale. In recent years, upscale audience niches have aligned with the perceived tastes of affluent, educated, multicultural, and-importantly-secular elites. As a result, the televised representation of white Christianity had to be othered, and shifted into the unreality of fantastic genres to appeal to niche audiences. To examine this effect, Howell looks at religious representation through four approaches - establishment, distancing, displacement, and use - and looks at series across a variety of genres and outlets in order to provied varied analyses of each theme.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the Building Bridges Seminar, Power: Divine and Human, Christian and Muslim Perspectives, comprises pairs of essays by Christians and Muslims which introduce texts for dialogical study, plus the actual text-excerpts themselves. This new book goes far beyond mere reporting on a dialogical seminar; rather, it provides guidance and materials for constructing a similar dialogical experience on a particular topic. As a resource for comparative theology, Power: Divine and Human is unique in that it takes up a topic not usually explored in depth in Christian-Muslim conversations. It is written by scholars for scholars. However, in tone and structure, it is suitable for the non-specialist as well. Students (undergraduate and graduate), religious leaders, and motivated non-specialists will find it readable and useful. While it falls solidly in the domain of comparative theology, it can also be used in courses on dialogical reading of scripture, interreligious relations, and political philosophy.

Book Hannah s Desire God s Design

Download or read book Hannah s Desire God s Design written by Joan E. Cook and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1999-03-01 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study analyses the biblical personage Hannah as a literary entity, to illustrate her uniquely significant place in the traditions of Israel as the mother of Samuel and thus of the reform of the priesthood, the creation of the monarchy, and the teacher of all Israel. There are three interweaving themes: first, the literary issue of the barren mother type scene; second, the theological theme of divine guidance and human initiative; and third, the perspectives of early biblical interpretation. The study develops around four works: the Hannah narrative in 1 Samuel 1-2, Pseudo-Philo's Biblical Antiquities, the Targum of the Prophets, and the Infancy Narrative in Luke 1-2.

Book The Supernatural Ministry

Download or read book The Supernatural Ministry written by Ifeoma Eze and published by Ifeoma Eze. This book was released on 2018-04-21 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The difference between a pastor and a lecturer is the word “supernatural.” Both the lecturer and the pastor stand before people to speak, but the difference in the both of them is the supernatural that accompanies the words of the pastor. It does not matter the size of a church, if it has a big cathedral without the supernatural, it is a warehouse. God told me many years ago that I am not a minister of information, but of the gospel. I have been called to preach the gospel, not to gossip. When a preacher preaches the gospel without power, he is a gossip. Without the supernatural ministry, every other thing is a joke. Do all you can to covet the supernatural in your ministry as a minister of the gospel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a mission-driven leader is hard. Being a mission-driven leader who knows how to navigate the emotions of loss and grief connected to leadership is harder still. It takes a vulnerable leader to lead well—one who has faced into their own losses and can let those losses equip their character for God’s greater plans. Not all leaders are willing. Not all leaders are able. Yet, according to David Woolverton, leaders’ vulnerability to the emotional processes of grief is essential for the overall health of the organizations they lead and for the well-being—and discipleship—of those under their direction. Grief, he says, is best viewed as a mosaic, where each of our significant losses forms a constellation of tiles that, when seen together over time, helps tell a story of God’s redemptive love, grace, and mission—a story desperately needed within today’s post-pandemic angst. Using Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance) as a guide, along with five biblical prophet “mentors,” Woolverton presents five strategies to equip pastors and leaders in negotiating with their losses to attain organizational resilience, sustainability, and vibrancy.
