Book The Dynamics of Marginalized Youth

Download or read book The Dynamics of Marginalized Youth written by Mark Levels and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-28 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies young people who are Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET); a prime concern among policymakers. Moving past common interpretations of NEETs as a homogeneous group, it asks why some youth become NEET, whereas other do not. The authors analyse diverse school-to-work patterns of young NEETs in five typical countries and investigate the role of individual characteristics, countries’ institutions and policies, and their complex interplay. Readers will come to understand youth marginalization as a process that may occur during the transition from school, vocational college, or university to work. By studying longitudinal analyses of processes and transitions, readers will gain the crucial insight that NEETs are not equally vulnerable, and that most NEETs will find their way back to the labour market. However, they will also see that in all countries, a group of long-term NEETs exists. These exceptionally vulnerable young people are sidelined from society and the labour market. The country cases and cross-national studies illustrate that policies intended to help long-term NEETs to find their way in society are very limited. The book provides useful theoretical and empirical insights for scholars interested in the school-to-work transition and marginalized youth. It also provides helpful insights in vulnerability to policymakers who aim to combat youth marginalization. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South Africa has one of the highest rates of youth unemployment and is renowned for being one of the most unequal societies in the world. In this context, training and education play critical roles in helping young people escape poverty and unemployment. Post-school Education offers insights about the way in which young people in South Africa navigate their way through a host of post-school training and education options. The topics range from access to, and labour market transitions from, vocational education, adult education, universities, and workplace-based training. The individual chapters offer up-to-date analyses, identify some of the challenges that young people face when accessing training and education and also point to gaps between education and the labour market. The contributors are all experts in their respective components but write with a holistic view of the post-school education system, using an unashamedly empirical lens. Post-school Education will be of interest to all researchers and policymakers concerned with the transformative role of further education and training in society--Back cover.

Book Urban Music and Entrepreneurship

Download or read book Urban Music and Entrepreneurship written by Joy White and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Youth unemployment in the UK remains around the one million mark, with many young people from impoverished backgrounds becoming and remaining NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). However, the NEET categorisation covertly disguises and obscures the significance of the diverse range of activities, achievements and accomplishments of those who operate in the informal creative economy. With grime music and its related enterprise a key component of the urban music economy, this book employs the inherent contradictions and questions that emerge from an exploration of the grime music scene to build a complex reading of the socio-economic significance of urban music. Incorporating insightful dialogue with the participants in this economy, White challenges the prevailing wisdom on marginalised young people, whilst also confronting the assumption that the inertia and localisation of the grime culture results from its close links to NEET "members" and the informal sector. Offering an ethnographic and timely critique of the NEET classification, this compelling book would be suitable for undergraduate and post-graduate students interested in urban studies, business, work and labour, education and employment, ethnography, music, and cultural studies.

Book excerpt: Based on up to date qualitative and ethnographic research, this book examines youth education-to-work transitions in the UK. Using the theoretical lens of a Foucauldian governmentality approach, the authors consider the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of youth employability training and demonstrate how different employability schemes planned and operationalised in diverse geographical and economic landscapes work in practice. The book examines and compares a range of employment entry route programmes and reveals the tension between employability and good quality employment, and the ways in which young people from varying social and regional backgrounds are positioned very differently within this.

Book Youthineering

Download or read book Youthineering written by Mohamed Buheji and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Youth is a unique period in any human life, where it is time for our optimum curiosity and early productivity. This book brings in Youthineering, a concept that was developed by the international inspiration economy project (IIEP) to focus on solving socio-economic problems through optimising the intrinsic resources within the targeted youth communities. Youthineering focuses on transforming the youth mindset in the beneficiary communities from ‘youth of capital-based economy’ to ‘youth economy creators’. Then, developing the services relevant to youth according to structured programs (i.e. offering structured sustainable youth education, care, development, etc.) that lead to the advancement of youth contribution to their community. Dr Buheji & Dr Ahmed present through the chapters of this book new approaches that help to involve and then engage youth in solving the most complex challenges, today and in the foresighted future. The applied researches presented in the chapters show how the increase of realisation of youth economy would transform us into a better world, with less poverty and more opportunities while addressing both youth development and advancement.
