Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Verbal Conditioning and Behavior clarifies certain major issues in the area of verbal behavior, with emphasis on the problems that are continuous and those that are discontinuous with animal learning research. This book provides information pertinent to certain areas of complex verbal behavior. Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with an overview of conditioning as an objective tool for the investigation of verbal behavior. This text then explains the relationship between the extent of verbal intervention and the degree of closeness of the conditioning task to a task of concept-learning. Other chapters consider the role of reinforcement in human learning needs. This book discusses as well how meaning is acquired and how it can be transferred once acquired. The final chapter deals with the individual differences in the development of a certain conditioned response. This book is a valuable resource for psychologists, college students, teachers, and researcher workers.

Book Rule Governed Behavior

Download or read book Rule Governed Behavior written by Steven C. Hayes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-06-02 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal learning and human learning traditions have been distinguishable within psychology since the start of the discipline and are to this day. The human learning wing was interested in the development of psychological functions in human organisms and proceeded directly to their examination. The animal learning wing was not distinguished by a corresponding interest in animal behavior per se. Rather, the animal learners studied animal behavior in order to identify principles of behavior of relevance to humans as well as other organisms. The two traditions, in other words, did not differ so much on goals as on strategies. It is not by accident that so many techniques of modem applied psychol ogy have emerged from the animal laboratory. That was one of the ultimate purposes of this work from the very beginning. The envisioned extension to humans was not just technological, however. Many animal researchers, B. F. Skinner most prominently among them, recognized that direct basic research with humans might ultimately be needed in certain areas but that it was wise first to build a strong foundation in the controlled environment of the animal laboratory. In a sense, animal learning was always in part a human research program in development.

Book excerpt: Written in 1949, this study is an effort to apply the methods of science to a study of the basic causes of human conflict. Using a research from over thirty years and addressed to the layman as well as the scientist it reports findings and formulations that emerged from investigations into man's inter-rational behaviour. Describing the inception and development of objective methods for evaluating and controlling human conflict. This study is based on the history of the author's and Clarence Shield's association with the The Lifwynn Foundation and work on the history of phylobiology. It discusses the investigations around: what man is overtly is not what man is basically; that the externals of man are not man and exploring human relations as psychosocial and not biological. Looking at the issue basic to human motivation and behaviour, the problem of self, the investigation comes to the conclusion that phylobiology is the application of scientific method to the field of human relations and this report presents an account of the enquiry into disorders of human behaviour.
