Book excerpt: With scores of books already in print about the American Revolution in North Carolina, what makes this work different? Most historians merely offer a broad-brushed canvas with an overview of a very complex human struggle, and those works are fine for those who simply want to absorb only a few highlights. This three-volume set provides a very detailed and comprehensive narrative that has never been told before and is mostly told by thousands of those who were actually there. This three-volume set is certainly intended for the serious-minded Revolutionary War "wonk" who simply cannot get enough first-hand accounts, even if some accounts often contradict one another. Since there were so many players during the eight years that North Carolina Patriots fought for their freedom, it is impossible to tell a single story with a single viewpoint. There are literally thousands of voices to be heard, each with their own small tale adding to the mosaic of the overall narrative.

Book Colored Patriots of American Revolution

Download or read book Colored Patriots of American Revolution written by William Cooper Nell and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-07-23 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Revolution was a political upheaval that took place between 1765 and 1783 during which the Thirteen American Colonies broke from the British Empire and formed an independent nation, the United States of America. The American Revolution was the result of a series of social, political, and intellectual transformations in American society, government and ways of thinking. Starting in 1765 the Americans rejected the authority of Parliament to tax them without elected representation; protests continued to escalate, as in the Boston Tea Party of 1773, and the British imposed punitive laws—the Intolerable Acts—on Massachusetts in 1774. In 1774 the Patriots suppressed the Loyalists and expelled all royal officials. Each colony now had a new government that took control. The British responded by sending combat troops to re-establish royal control. Through the Second Continental Congress, the Patriots fought the British in the American Revolutionary War (1775 - 1783).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revolutionary War Patriots: Bladen, Robeson, Cumberland, Sampson, and Duplin Counties, North Carolina By: Rev. Dr. Carolyn Cummings-Woriax History and storytelling are prominent in Rev. Dr. Carolyn Cummings-Woriax's life. As a child, her oral traditionalist father and other members of the community shared their stories of yesteryear. Rev. Dr. Cummings-Woriax holds special interests in Colonial War, the Whigs and Tories, the Tuscarora Indians War, and the Revolutionary War. These wars were harsh, particularly for those economically poor, with injustices and slavery placed upon those who had always known freedom, with forced transition to bondage by the encroaching occupants in the New Colony. Sadly, these wars played a major role in the writer’s ancestry—on both sides—as European family connections fought against the Natives of America family connections, which in turn was met by counterattacks. While in preparation of certification of her Daughters of American Revolution War Patriot, John Brooks, Rev. Dr. Cummings-Woriax discovered an unrecognized wealth of information. Patriots who fought side by side in these major battles continued their commonality as citizens within local counties. Her discovery showed that a more vital patriotism was taking place among the patriots as citizens in the New Colony. Rev. Dr. Cummings-Woriax returns to her biblical history to point out the words of God: Only God can raise up a nation, and only God can tear down a nation. She understands this is what God has done for the early patriots and their descends. The building of a new community of people was God’s doing.
