Book Natural Gas A Commercial Perspective

Download or read book Natural Gas A Commercial Perspective written by Andrej Pustišek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses and explains the economics of each stage of the natural gas value chain, including the economic impact of restrictions, rules and decisions that are ostensibly technical in nature, as well as commercially relevant contractual stipulations. Each chapter features several real-world examples illustrating the essential points. Natural gas is broadly considered the (leading) conventional source of primary energy. Complementing renewable energies’ utilization and offering a highly flexible yet relatively clean fuel, the worldwide natural gas markets are expected to grow. Despite the fact that Europe – where a degree of stagnation in natural gas consumption is being observed and is expected to continue – is not following this trend, international natural gas markets are becoming increasingly interdependent. Therefore, any analysis and discussion of natural gas markets at each level has to have an international rather than national focus.

Book The Economics of Natural Gas Storage

Download or read book The Economics of Natural Gas Storage written by Anna Cretì and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-05 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I remember that the idea of this book emerged ?rst in Toulouse, during the Third Conference on Energy Markets – 3 years ago now. Anna Cret` ? gave a talk on a model dealing with seasonal gas storage in the USA, and Christian Von Hirschausen was her discussant. Both of them were devoting their efforts to understand the natural gas market in Europe and the relevant liberalization process. I found their interest in storage rather original, so I encouraged Anna to collect the most original cont- butions on this topic. Back in Milan with this idea in mind, she organized a working group at IEFE- Bocconi University, where she works. Then, during the following year, she - changed ideas and organized several meetings with the book’s contributors. She regularly invited the most important Italian gas sector representatives to these me- ings, to make sure that the economic models were well suited to tackle the issues at stake in the European gas industry.

Download or read book Natural Gas written by Vaclav Smil and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-09-21 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas is the world’s cleanest fossil fuel; it generates less air pollution and releases less CO2 per unit of useful energy than liquid fuels or coals. With its vast supplies of conventional resources and nonconventional stores, the extension of long-distance gas pipelines and the recent expansion of liquefied natural gas trade, a truly global market has been created for this clean fuel. Natural Gas: Fuel for the 21st Century discusses the place and prospects of natural gas in modern high-energy societies. Vaclav Smil presents a systematic survey of the qualities, origins, extraction, processing and transportation of natural gas, followed by a detailed appraisal of its many preferred, traditional and potential uses, and the recent emergence of the fuel as a globally traded commodity. The unfolding diversification of sources, particularly hydraulic fracturing, and the role of natural gas in national and global energy transitions are described. The book concludes with a discussion on the advantages, risks, benefits and costs of natural gas as a leading, if not dominant, fuel of the 21st century. This interdisciplinary text will be of interest to a wide readership concerned with global energy affairs including professionals and academics in energy and environmental science, policy makers, consultants and advisors with an interest in the rapidly-changing global energy industry.

Download or read book Regulated Enterprise written by Christopher James Castaneda and published by Ohio State University Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Christopher Castaneda's study of the construction of the pipelines that transported southwestern gas to the Northeast traces the ways in which the federal regulatory process fostered competitive growth in the natural gas industry." "In 1938, the Natural Gas Act granted the Federal Power Commission jurisdiction over the interstate transmission and sale of natural gas. The FPC used its new powers to guide, shape, and manage an intensely competitive period in the industry. As Castaneda shows, aggressive and politically astute entrepreneurs based in the Southwest took advantage of economic opportunity and a regulatory environment conducive to industry growth. They financed and built the nation's longest gas pipelines to connect the massive southwestern reserves with the major northern energy markets. The coal industry, which supplied the raw product for manufactured gas, and the railroad industry, which transported the coal, adamantly but unsuccessfully opposed the action and attempted to halt the introduction of natural gas into their northeastern markets. First, during the war years, emergency regulatory agencies directed the expansion of the industry into Appalachia. Then, in the ensuing peacetime, market forces prompted entrepreneurs to compete vigorously for regulatory approval to build pipelines to sell natural gas in the Northeast." "While previous studies have examined the development of the natural gas industry after 1954, when the Supreme Court's Phillips decision established the FPC as a regulator of price control rather than as a manager of industrial growth, Castaneda's is the first to examine this earlier entrepreneurial era. Based on exhaustive research in corporate records and government documents, Regulated Enterprise offers a case study of government-business relations during a period of rapid industrial expansion and suggests a new way of looking at federal regulation and competitive growth."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book The Economics of Natural Gas

Download or read book The Economics of Natural Gas written by DeAnne Julius and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1990 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas resembles oil in fulfilling a wide variety of uses as both a source of energy and a feedstock, but the proportion of world production that is traded internationally is very much lower, and insufficient for a world price of gas to be established. This book addresses the issues of how the economic price of gas is determined. These are illustrated with estimates of the costs of exploration and production of gas, and of the benefits to be derived from its use in various economic sectors for a number of Third World countries.
