Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Free Convective Heat Transfer is a thorough survey of various kinds of free-convective flows and heat transfer. Reference data are accompanied by a large number of photographs originating from different optical visualization methods illustrating the different types of flow. The formulas derived from numerical and analytical investigations are valuable tools for engineering calculations. They are written in their most compact and general form in order to allow for an extensive range of different variants of boundary and initial conditions, which, in turn, leads to a wide applicability to different flow types. Some specific engineering problems are solved in the book as exemplary applications of these formulas.

Book Emerging Technologies and Techniques in Porous Media

Download or read book Emerging Technologies and Techniques in Porous Media written by Derek B. Ingham and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat and fluid flow in fluid-saturated porous media has become increas ingly more attractive to researchers and thus it has become a very pro ductive field for many researchers and practical engineers in very diverse range of fields. The great interest in the topic stems from its widespread number of different practical applications in modern industries and in many environmental issues, such as nuclear waste management, build ing thermal insulators, geothermal power plants, grain storage, etc. In building sciences and thermal insulation engineering, an appreciable in sulating effect has been derived by placing porous material in the gap between the cavity walls and multishield structures of nuclear reactors between the pressure vessel and the reactor. Geophysical applications include modeling of the spread of pollutants (e. g. radioactive mater ial), water movements in geothermal reservoirs, enhanced recovery of petroleum reservoirs, etc. These, and many other, important practical applications have resulted in a rapid expansion of research in the general area of porous media and thus generated a vast amount of both theor etical and experimental research work. It has attracted the attention of industrialists, engineers and scientists from many varying disciplines, such as applied mathematics, chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical and nuclear engineering, geothermal physics, food science, medicine, etc. This book contains some of the contributions to the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Emerging Technologies and Techniques in Porous Media that was held in Neptun-Olimp, Constanta, Black Sea, Romania on 9-20 June, 2003.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 38 (thesis year 1993) a total of 13,787 thesis titles from 22 Canadian and 164 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 38 reports theses submitted in 1993, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Pattern Formation and Stability in Magnetic Colloids

Download or read book Pattern Formation and Stability in Magnetic Colloids written by Nicolás O. Rojas and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-01-08 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a selection of works on pattern formation and stability of magnetic colloids. Magnetic liquids can be investigated in different scenarios. Geometry (quasi 1, 2 and 3 dimensional vessels ), scales (molecules, macroscopic particles) and the type of suspension (e.g., ferromagnetic, superparamagnetic) employed in experiments completely modify the aggregation process. The observed patterns in the fluid range from surface waves to bulk chains and bundles. The approaches presented in this book use standard statistical means such as the Gibbs free energy and chemical potential. Numerical works are implemented employing methods such as Monte Carlo or Langevin dynamics simulations. Kinetic theory is used in theoretical approaches being successfully applied to algorithms such as the Lattice-Boltzmann method.

Book Hydrothermal Analysis in Engineering Using Control Volume Finite Element Method

Download or read book Hydrothermal Analysis in Engineering Using Control Volume Finite Element Method written by Mohsen Sheikholeslami and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-02-27 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control volume finite element methods (CVFEM) bridge the gap between finite difference and finite element methods, using the advantages of both methods for simulation of multi-physics problems in complex geometries. In Hydrothermal Analysis in Engineering Using Control Volume Finite Element Method, CVFEM is covered in detail and applied to key areas of thermal engineering. Examples, exercises, and extensive references are used to show the use of the technique to model key engineering problems such as heat transfer in nanofluids (to enhance performance and compactness of energy systems), hydro-magnetic techniques in materials and bioengineering, and convective flow in fluid-saturated porous media. The topics are of practical interest to engineering, geothermal science, and medical and biomedical sciences. - Introduces a detailed explanation of Control Volume Finite Element Method (CVFEM) to provide for a complete understanding of the fundamentals - Demonstrates applications of this method in various fields, such as nanofluid flow and heat transfer, MHD, FHD, and porous media - Offers complete familiarity with the governing equations in which nanofluid is used as a working fluid - Discusses the governing equations of MHD and FHD - Provides a number of extensive examples throughout the book - Bonus appendix with sample computer code
