Keith Jolls and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dam is a 55 year-old earth embankment approximately 120 feet in length with a bridged spillway. An asphalt pavement (Elmer-Barnsboro Rd.) 30 feet in width runs along the crest. The spillway is a three sided concrete drop inlet with removable 3 in.-6 in. wide timber stoplogs on the front face. Steel sheet piling extends along the shoulder line on the upstream face of the dam on each side of the drop inlet. The maximum height of the dam is 13 feet at the culvert outlet. Wrights Mill Dam is assessed to be in a good overall condition and no physically detrimental conditions were observed but further hydraulic studies are recommended in the future to ascertain more accurately the capacity of the spillway. Overtopping of the dam could lead to a downstream embankment washout. Remedial actions recommended to be undertaken in the near future include (1) remove the dead trees and root systems on the downstream embankment slopes, (2) place riprap in the downstream channel and (3) place slope protection at the ends of the steel sheeting and downstream culvert wingwalls. The capacity of the spillway will accommodate only 24% of the one-half PMF design flood.

Book National Dam Safety Program Bethel Lake Dam NJ00406 Delaware River Basin Mantua Creek Gloucester County New Jersey Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Bethel Lake Dam NJ00406 Delaware River Basin Mantua Creek Gloucester County New Jersey Phase I Inspection Report written by Richard J. McDermott and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dam is an earth embankment supporting Gloucester County Highway Route 635 known as Lambs Road. The spillway structure consists of a horseshoe-shaped concrete weir located on the upstream side of the embankment. At the center of the embankment a concrete bridge forms the spillway discharge channel. The outlet works consists of a gated 2' x 2.5' sluice which transversely penetrates the center of the concrete spillway structure. The outlet discharges from the downstream face of the spillway structure into a stilling area between the spillway and bridge. Based on visual inspection, past operational performance and Phase I engineering analyses, Bethel Lake Dam is assessed as being in fair overall condition. Hydraulic and hydrologic analyses indicate that the spillway is inadequate. Discharge capacity of the spillway is not sufficient to pass the designated spillway design flood (100-year storm) without an overtopping of the dam. The spillway is capable of passing approximately 14 percent of the SDF.

Book National Dam Safety Program Lake Wadsworth Dam NJ 00433 Delaware River Basin Mantua Creek Gloucester County New Jersey Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Lake Wadsworth Dam NJ 00433 Delaware River Basin Mantua Creek Gloucester County New Jersey Phase I Inspection Report written by F. Keith Jolls and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, Lake Wadsworth Dam, a high hazard potential structure, is judged to be in fair overall condition. The dam's spillway is considered inadequate since 12 percent of the Spillway Design Flood--SDF - would overtop the dam. (The SDF, in this instance, is one half of the Probable Maximum Flood). The decision to consider the spillway 'inadequate' instead of 'seriously inadequate' is based on the determination that dam failure resulting from overtopping would not significantly increase the hazard to loss of life downstream from the dam from that which would exist just before overtopping failure. Recommended actions are made to insure adequacy of the structure.

Book National Dam Safety Program Blackwood Lake Dam NJ00800 Delaware River Basin South Branch Timber Creek Camden County New Jersey Phase 1 Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Blackwood Lake Dam NJ00800 Delaware River Basin South Branch Timber Creek Camden County New Jersey Phase 1 Inspection Report written by Abraham Perea and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blackwood Lake Dam is on the boundary of Gloucester Township in Camden county and Washington Township in Gloucester County. The visual inspection was conducted on September 3, 1980, at which time the water level in the lake was producing a moderate flow over the three-celled sluiceway (which prevented close inspection of the timber stop logs). The overall physical condition of the dam is fair, but the embankment slopes are very poorly graded, especially at the bridge downstream wingwalls. The roadway embankment, which forms the main dam structure, was assessed to be in a solid and stable condition, although pavement runoff at the gutter lines causes a continual drainage problem, especially on the downstream side. The crest of the dam is an asphalt-paved two-lane road. A considerable portion of the downstream sideslopes adjacent to the wingwalls has been heavily eroded, particularly on the left. This may be due to a combination of poorly compacted fill that was replaced after the flood of 1967 and the erosion from roadway runoff.
