McDermott and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on available records, past operational performance, visual inspections and Phase I engineering analysis, Upper Mohawk Lake Dam is asessed as being in good overall condition. Based on investigations of the downstream flood plain made in connection with this report, it is recommended that the hazard potential classification be downgraded from high to significant hazard. The spillway is capable of passing the designated spillway design flood (100-year storm) without an overtopping of the dam and, therefore, is assessed ass being adequate. It is recommended that the following remedial measures be undertaken by the owner in the future: (1) The trash rack at the downstream end of the spillway discharge flume should be reinforced or replaced, and (2) Some trees on the embankment appeared to have been planted for aesthetic purposes while others appeared to be randomly located. Therefore, trees on the embankment should be investigated to assess their detrimental effect on the dam and those found to be adverse should be removed.

Book excerpt: This report cites results of a technical investigation as to the dam's adequacy. The inspection and evaluation of the dam is as prescribed by the National Dam Inspection Act, Public Law 92-367. The technical investigation includes visual inspection, review of available design and construction records, and preliminary structural and hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, as applicable. An assessment of the dam's general condition is included in the report. Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, N.J. No Name Dam No. 55, initially listed as a high hazard potential structure, but reduced to a significant hazard potential structure as a result of this inspection, is judged to be in poor overall condition. The dam's spillway is considered inadequate because a flow equivalent to 3 percent of the Spillway Design Flood - SDF - would cause the dam to be overtopped. (The SDF, in this instance, is one half of the Probable Maximum Flood).

Guinan and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, Delaware Lake Dam, initially listed as a high hazard potential structure, but reduced to a low hazard potential structure as a result of this inspection, is judged to be in fair overall condition. The dam's spillway is considered adequate because it will pass the 100-year spillway design flood. The low hazard potential classification means that in the event of failure of the dam, no loss of life and only minimal economic loss is expected. For the same reason no further studies or increase of spillway capacity are recommended.

Book National Dam Safety Program Youngs Pond Dam NJ00270 Delaware River Basin Warren County New Jersey Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Youngs Pond Dam NJ00270 Delaware River Basin Warren County New Jersey Phase I Inspection Report written by Warren A. Guinan and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dam was inspected on 6 November 1979 by Anderson-Nichols and Company, Inc. under contract to the State of New Jersey. The State, under agreement with the U.S. Army Engineer District, Philadelphia, had this inspection performed in accordance with the National Dam Inspection Act, Public Law 92-367. Youngs Pond Dam, a high hazard potential structure, is judged to be in fair overall condition. The spillway is considered seriously inadequate because a flow equivalent to nine percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) would cause the dam to be overtopped. The seriously inadequate spillway is assessed as an UNSAFE, non-emergency condition, until more detailed studies prove otherwise or corrective measures are completed. The classification of UNSAFE applied to a dam because of a seriously inadequate spillway is not meant to indicate the same degree of emergency as would be associated with an UNSAFE classification applied for a structural deficiency. It does mean, however, that based on an initial screening, and preliminary computations, there appears to be a serious deficiency in spillway capacity so that if a severe storm were to occur, overtopping and failure of the dam would take place, significantly increasing the hazard of loss of life downstream from the dam.
