Book National Dam Safety Program Clayton s Dam Inventory Number NY 1460 Susquehanna River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Clayton s Dam Inventory Number NY 1460 Susquehanna River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by Hugh C. Flaherty and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examination of available documents and visual inspections of the dam did not reveal conditions which constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. However, the dam has some deficiencies that need to be evaluated and remedied. The spillway is adjudged to be seriously inadequate and the dam is assessed as unsafe, nonemergency. It should be noted that Eaton Brook Reservoir Dam is located approximately 2.2 miles upstream of Clayton's Dam on Eaton Brook. Its spillway has also been adjudged to be seriously inadequate and the dam assessed as unsafe, nonemergency. Due to the appreciable size of Eaton Reservoir, the breaching of that dam would undoubtedly have a serious effect on Clayton's Dam. Similarly, the failure of either of these dams would have a serious effect on two small dams also on Eaton Brook, located 0.5 miles and 1.7 miles downstream of Clayton's Dam.

Flaherty and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides information and analysis on the physical condition of the dam as of the report date. Information and analysis are based on visual inspection of the dam by the performing organization. Examination of available documents and visual inspections of the dam did not reveal conditions which constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. However, the dam has some deficiencies that need to be evaluated and remedied. Using the Corps of Engineers' screening criteria for the initial review of spillway adequacy, it has been determined that the embankment would be overtopped by all storms exceeding 21 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Dam overtopping, the resulting erosion of the embankment and hence, dam breaching would cause water surface levels downstream to reach depths which would pose significant danger to residents. Therefore, the spillway is adjudged to be seriously inadequate and the dam is assessed as unsafe, nonemergency. The classification 'unsafe' applied to a dam because of a seriously inadequate spillway is not meant to connote the same degree of emergency as would be associated with an 'unsafe' classification applied for a structural deficiency. It does not mean that there appears to be a serious deficiency in spillway capacity and if a severe storm were to occur, overtopping and failure of the dam could take place, significantly increasing the hazard to life downstream of the dam. Book National Dam Safety Program Norwich Water Works Dam Number 1 Inventory Number NY 347 Susquehanna River Basin Chenango County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Flaherty and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides information and analysis on the physical condition of the dam as of the report date. Information and analysis are based on visual inspection of the dam by the performing organization. Examination of available documents and a visual inspection of the dam did not reveal conditions which constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. However, the dam has some deficiencies that need to be evaluated and remedied. Using the Corps of Engineers' screening criteria for the initial review of spillway adequacy, it has been determined that the embankment would be overtopped by the outflow resulting from all storms exceeding 17 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) when the flashboards are in place and the overtopping discharge from the embankment portion of Norwich Reservoir No. 2 Dam (NY 349) is included as an inflow hydrograph.

Book National Dam Safety Program Stump Pond Dam Inventory Number N Y 746 Susquehanna River Basin Cortland County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Stump Pond Dam Inventory Number N Y 746 Susquehanna River Basin Cortland County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by George Koch and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visual inspection of this dam and engineering analyses revealed that the poor condition of the dam creates a hazard to human life and property. As a result of these determinations, the dam has been assessed as unsafe, non-emergency. One of the spillway sections has failed completely, creating a large void in the dam. The other spillway channel is in poor condition, having cracks in the concrete and several small voids. The earth fill upstream of the dam completely blocks the failed spillway section and partially blocks the other section. Due to the serious nature of the deficiencies, it is recommended that within 30 days of the notification to the owner that the dam has been assessed as unsafe, repair work on the structural deficiencies should be commenced. These repairs should be completed within 3 months. Within 3 months of the notification of the owner, a detailed hydrologic/hydraulic investigation should be commenced. This investigation should accurately define the site specific characteristics of the watershed and determine appropriate mitigating measures to be taken in response to the seriously inadequate spillway capacity. These measures should be completed within 1 year of the date of notification.

Book National Dam Safety Program Larchwood Lake Dam Inventory Number NY 727 Susquehanna River Basin Otsego County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Larchwood Lake Dam Inventory Number NY 727 Susquehanna River Basin Otsego County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by Hugh C. Flaherty and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 195 pages. Hydrologic/hydraulic analyses performed in accordance with the Corps of Engineers' Recommended Guidelines for Safety Inspection of Dams indicate that the principal spillway and the emergency spillway would pass 100 percent of the outflow from the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping the dam. Therefore, the combined spillway capacity is adjudged to be adequate. (Author).

This book was released on 1980 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dam is located on Brixius Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River, approximately 1/2 mile north of Union, NY. The examination of documents and visual inspection of the Site 2 Dam and appurtenant structures did not reveal conditions which constitute a hazard to human life or property. The discharge capacity of the spillways is adequate for the PMF (Probable Maximum Flood). However the following remedial actions must be completed within 1 year from notification to the owner: (1) Eliminate the pedestrian traffic on the embankment and auxiliary spillway, backfill all depressions and reseed these areas; (2) repair the depressions on the upstream slope in the vicinity of the riser and beyond the downstream toe of the dam; (3) Remove the parking area from the auxiliary spillway channel and reseed the affected area; (4) Remove the vegetation from the inlet and outlet of the auxiliary spillway, and the downstream channel; (5) Investigate the conditions of the reservoir drain and restore to operational status, if required; (6) Repair the erosion or the Taft Road embankment and clean out the sediment within the 6 feet diameter highway culvert; and (7) provide a program of periodic inspection and maintenance of the dam and appurtenances, including yearly operation and lubrication of the reservoir drain system.
