This book was released on 1980 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stevens Lake Dam is an earthfill dam, 99 feet long and 9 feet high. The crest width of the dam is 12 feet. The upstream slope is 3H:1V and protected with handplaced riprap. The downstream slope is 2.5H:1V and is grass covered. The spillway is located at the center of the embankment and consists of a concrete structure with a modified sharp crested weir. The spillway is equipped with wooden stop logs located along the right spillway wingwall. The 5 feet long wooden stop logs are used to regulate the level of the reservoir pool below the spillway weir elevation. The length of the weir is 52 feet long. The inspection and review of data of Stevens Lake Dam did not reveal any problems which require emergency action. The dam appears to be in good condition and adequately maintained. The spillway and reservior are capable of controlling approximately 53% of the PMF. Based on criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed inadequate.

This book was released on 1979 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Saddle Lake Dam is a homogeneous earthfill structure with an earthfilled cutoff trench at the center of the embankment foundation. The top of the dam embankment is 24 feet above the streambed elevation. The main embankment is 350 feet in length to where it meets a natural high knoll at its right abutment. The knoll is about 100 feet across beyond which a second embankment section has been constructed extending approximately another 400 feet to the right where it abuts the natural ground surface. An uncontrolled concrete triangular weir spillway is located at the left abutment of the main embankment. The approach to the spillway is through a 45 foot wide approach channel from the left side of the reservoir. This channel is a 90 deg curved section about 200 feet in length. The spillway outlet channel has a concrete slab and 2H to 1V sloped concrete side walls and extends 57 feet downstream from the crest of the weir. Beyond this point, the channel is paved with riprap including a stilling basin about 200 feet further downstream.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Sheridan Dam NDS ID Number PA 744 DER ID Number 66 45 Susquehanna River Basin Lake Sheridan Outlet Wyoming County Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Sheridan Dam NDS ID Number PA 744 DER ID Number 66 45 Susquehanna River Basin Lake Sheridan Outlet Wyoming County Phase I Inspection Report written by KIMBALL (L ROBERT) AND ASSOCIATES EBENSBURG PA. and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake Sheridan Dam is a rubble masonary and concrete gravity dam. The dam is 89 feet long and 9 feet high. The intercore of the dam consists of the original rubble masonry construction. The concrete portion of the dam was added during the 1966 modifications. The dam consists of an overflow and a non-overflow section. The overflow section of the dam serves as the normal spillway for the reservoir. The crest length of the spillway is 40 feet. A reservoir drain valve is located on the upstream end of the right non-overflow section. In general, the dam appears to be in good condition. The spillway design flood for this dam is the 1/2 PMF to PMF. The spillway design flood was selected as the PMF (probable maximum flood) based on the downstream potential for loss of life and property damage. The spillway is capable of controlling only 2% of the PMF. Based on criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed inadequate. Since Lake Sheridan Dam's non-overflow section consists of a concrete section over rubble masonry, the non-overflow section should be capable of safely controlling a partial overflow. However, the amount of overtopping that can be safely controlled is unknown. In this case the amount of overtopping is directly related to the structural stability of the dam. No visible seepage or other obvious deficiencies affecting the stability of the dam were noted during the inspection.

Book National Dam Inspection Program NDI ID Number PA 00893 DER ID Number 66 35 Winola Mill Pond Dam Susquehanna River Basin Tributary to Beaver Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program NDI ID Number PA 00893 DER ID Number 66 35 Winola Mill Pond Dam Susquehanna River Basin Tributary to Beaver Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, Winola Mill Pond Dam is judged to be unsafe, nonemergency, because the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. The existing walls of the main spillway will overtop at about 6 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood(PMF). Overtopping of the walls will cause erosion of the dry masonry section of the dam. It is estimated that the 15 percent PMF would cause sufficient erosion to cause the dam to fail. The initial surge from the failure of the dam would increase the hazard to loss of life downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition. Cracks have developed in the concrete liner wall on the upstream face of the dry masonry. Excessive leakage and a hole in the upstream earthfill had previously developed and the repairs made to the structure do not eliminate the possibility of these conditions reoccurring. Although a preliminary stability analysis indicates no apparent need for immediate concern, the theoretical stability of Winola Mill Pond Dam is unknown because the foundation conditions are unknown.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Chamberlain Pond Dam NDI I D PA 0890 DER I D 066 011 Susquehanna River Basin Little Mehoopany Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Chamberlain Pond Dam NDI I D PA 0890 DER I D 066 011 Susquehanna River Basin Little Mehoopany Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Lawrence D. Andersen and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the evaluation of the existing conditions, the condition of Chamberlain Pond Dam is considered to be unsafe/nonemergency because of structural deficiencies and seriously inadequate flood discharge capacity. The dam is a dry masonry wall backed by an earth fill. The left abutment nonoverflow section appears to have settled, causing structural cracks in the dam. The stone wall on the downstream side of this section is bulging and tilting downstream. In view of these conditions, the structural stability of the dam is considered to be questionable, requiring further investigation. The flood discharge capacity of the dam was evaluated according to the recommended criteria and it was found to pass approximately 20 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping the nonoverflow section of the dam. This capacity is less than the recommended spillway design flood of full PMF. Because the dam cannot pass 50 percent of the PMF and because failure of the dam is considered to significantly increase the downstream damage potential compared to that which would exist just before failure, the flood discharge capacity of the dam is considered to be seriously inadequate.

This book was released on 1979 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beechwood Lake Dam is an earthfill dam 1030 feet long and 63 feet high. The embankment is a zoned earth embankment consisting of a center impervious core section with pervious upstream and downstream zones. The principal spillway consists of a 30 inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe with a 2.5 foot x 7.5 foot reinforced concrete riser. The inspection and review of data of Beechwood Lake Dam did not reveal any problems which require emergency action. The dam appears to be stable, well maintained, safely operated and in good condition. Beechwood Lake Dam is a high hazard-intermediate size dam. The spillway design flood is the PMF (Probable Maximum Flood). The spillway and reservoir are capable of controlling the PMF. Based upon the criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed adequate.

This book was released on 1981 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the evaluation of the existing conditions, the condition of Sharpe's Pond Dam is considered to be fair. No conditions were noted that would significantly affect the structural stability of the dam. The formal spillway facility, which consists of a three-foot-diameter drop inlet pipe, is considered to be vulnerable to blockage by debris during a flood and is, therefore, considered inadequate. Although a low area exists over the left abutment which may function as an emergency spillway, a need exists for the installation of a formal emergency spillway facility. Flood discharge capacity of the dam, including the flow over the left abutment, was evaluated according to the recommended procedure and was found to be approximately 10 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping the low spot on the main embankment. This capacity is less than the recommended one-half of the PMF, according to the size and hazard classification for the dam. Although the spillway capacity is less than 50 percent of the PMF, overtopping of the dam is not considered to constitute a major breach potential. Therefore, the spillway is classified to be inadequate, but not seriously inadequate.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Negro Pond Dam NDI I D PA 0889 DER I D 066 010 Susquehanna River Basin Little Mehoopany Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Negro Pond Dam NDI I D PA 0889 DER I D 066 010 Susquehanna River Basin Little Mehoopany Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by D'APPOLONIA CONSULTING ENGINEERS INC PITTSBURGH PA. and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the evaluation of the existing conditions, the condition of Negro Pond Dam is considered to be poor. The dam essentially consists of a mound of stones. It appears that originally it was a dry stone wall backed by an earth fill. As it exists, flow from the reservoir partially flows over a low section on the dam and partially percolates through the rubble to the downstream toe. The dam has no formal spillway facilities. Therefore, the flood discharge capacity of the dam is considered to be inadequate. A breach analysis indicated that failure of the dam during the passage of 50 percent PMF is likely to endanger the stability of a downstream dam and the combined discharge may cause loss of life and property damage. Consequently, the flood discharge capacity of the dam is considered to be seriously inadequate and the facility is classified to be unsafe/nonemergency.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Maple Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 01026 DER ID Number 57 38 Susquehanna River Basin Branch of Blackwater Run Sullivan County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Maple Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 01026 DER ID Number 57 38 Susquehanna River Basin Branch of Blackwater Run Sullivan County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maple Lake Dam is an earthfill embankment 14.4 feet high and 283 feet long, excluding spillway. The emergency spillway is located at the left abutment, consisting of an earth channel having a trapezoidal cross section. The bottom width of the spillway at the reservoir outlet is 56 feet. A service spillway, consisting of a 12-inch riser pipe and an 8-inch diameter outlet pipe, is located approximately 100 feet from the right abutment. The outlet works was reported to consist of an 8-inch diameter asbestos cement pipe, extending upstream of the riser pipe to the reservoir and terminating with two sections of an 8-inch diameter vitrified clay pipe, having a concrete plug at the inlet. Based on visual inspection, the Maple Lake Dam is judged to be in good condition. Under the present conditions, the spillway will pass approximately 37 percent of the PMF. Should the top of the dam be restored to its design elevation, the spillway could pass the SDF without overtopping the dam.
