Book National Dam Inspection Program Penn Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00542 DER ID Number 40 28 Delaware River Basin Wright Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Penn Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00542 DER ID Number 40 28 Delaware River Basin Wright Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by O'BRIEN AND GERE ENGINEERS INC PHILADELPHIA PA JUSTIN AND COURTNEY DIV. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Penn Lake Dam is an earth embankment approximately 350 feet long and 44 feet high at its maximum section. The spillway consists of twelve 42-inch diameter, 20-foot long pipes located approximately 1,000 feet left (looking downstream) of the dam. Earth swales on both sides of the battery of pipes function as auxiliary spillways. The 56 acre reservoir is used for recreation by members of the Penn Lake Association. Examination of the results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analyses indicates that the spillway (pipes and swales) is capable of passing 48 per cent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the embankment. Failure of the dam would increase the hazard of loss of life downstream of the dam. The capacity of the spillway system is therefore classified as 'Seriously Inadequate.' The dam is considered to be unsafe (non-emergency). Based on visual observations made during the date of the inspection, the dam is considered to be in poor condition.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Dam G NDI ID Number PA 00643 DER ID Number 40 14 Delaware River Basin Dreck Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Dam G NDI ID Number PA 00643 DER ID Number 40 14 Delaware River Basin Dreck Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Albert Charles Hooke and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dam G is a homogeneous earthfill embankment with a concrete core-wall. The embankment is 490 feet long and 19 feet high at maximum section. There are two outlet works at the dam. The first outlet works, which is near the right end of the embankment, consists of a concrete intake structure, two 24-inch diameter cast-iron pipes, and a valve house. This outlet works is connected to the water supply system. The second outlet works, which is near the left end of the dam, is similar to the first except it consists of a single 24-inch diameter pipe. The second outlet works provides the emergency drawdown capability. The concrete chute spillway is at the left abutment of the dam. Its crest is 3.0 feet below the design elevation of the top of the dam and is 75 feet long. The approach channel is short and concrete paved. The exit channel is a continuation of the chute. A bridge extends across the spillway crest. It is supported by two piers.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Sunrise Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00556 DER ID Number 40 216 Delaware River Basin Pine Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Sunrise Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00556 DER ID Number 40 216 Delaware River Basin Pine Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sunrise Lake Dam is a homogeneous earthfill embankment 478 feet long and 27 feet high at its maximum section. The embankment has a curved alignment. A concrete chute spillway is located near the right abutment of the top of the. The approach channel is the reservoir area. The ogee crest is 105 feet long and 7.25 feet lower than the design elevation of the dam. Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations, past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, Sunrise Lake Dam is judged to be in good condition. The spillway capacity is rated as adequate. The spillway can pass the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the dam. The headwall at the conduit outlet is tilted and is considered to be unsatisfactory. In the absence of stability computations showing that an adequate factor of safety exists, the downstream slope is considered to have a marginal factor of safety because of the steepness of the slope.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Bear Creek Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00545 DER ID Number 40 47 Delaware River Basin Bear Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Bear Creek Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00545 DER ID Number 40 47 Delaware River Basin Bear Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by O'BRIEN AND GERE ENGINEERS INC PHILADELPHIA PA JUSTIN AND COURTNEY DIV. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bear Creek Lake Dam is a rock filled timber crib structure approximately 325 feet long and 17 feet high at its maximum section. An ungated drop spillway with an 158-foot long sharp crested weir is located approximately 60 feet from the right abutment (looking downstream). The 80 acre lake is used for recreation by the residents of Bear Creek Village. It is unknown when the dam was constructed. In the state inspection report of April, 1915 it is stated, 'This dam was constructed a great many years ago, but it has been repaired from time to time, so that more than likely none of the original structure is now in existence.' Examination of the results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate that the drop spillway is capable of passing 11 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the embankment. Failure of the dam would significantly increase the hazard to loss of life downstream of the dam. Therefore, the capacity of the drop spillway is classified as 'seriously inadequate.' The dam is considered to be 'unsafe (non-emergency).'

Book National Dam Inspection Program Dam F NDI ID Number PA 00642 DER ID Number 40 13 Delaware River Basin Dreck Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Dam F NDI ID Number PA 00642 DER ID Number 40 13 Delaware River Basin Dreck Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Albert Charles Hooke and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations, past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, Dam F is judged to be unsafe, nonemergency, because the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. The spillway can pass 29 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the dam. The Owner has placed sandbags along the spillway crest, which reduces the spillway capacity further. The resulting outflows from the failure of Dam F would overtop and cause the failure of Dam G. This would result in the loss of life. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition. There are bulges on the downstream slope that apparently have not stabilized. The dam has essentially no operational emergency drawdown capability. Maintenance at the dam is marginal.

Book National Dam Inspection Program North Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00268 PennDER I D Number 52 180 Delaware River Basin Branch of Hornbecks Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program North Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00268 PennDER I D Number 52 180 Delaware River Basin Branch of Hornbecks Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: North Lake Dam is located on a branch of Hornbecks Creek in Delaware Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania. The facility is located approximately 1,500 feet upstream and west of wild Acres Lake, and about five miles from U.S. Route 209 which parallels the Delaware River in this area. Observations made during the visual inspection indicate the embankment is in fair condition, but in need of general maintenance. No evidence of seepage through the downstream embankment face, sloughing, erosion or animal burrows was observed. The embankment crest is noticeably low (in excess of 1-foot) near the spillway relative to the remainder of the crest. About two-thirds of the embankment is overgrown along an area extending approximately 400 feet to the right of the spillway. The vegetation is characterized as primarily brush and high weeds with clumps of small trees strewn throughout. In contrast, much of the embankment crest and upstream face are bare and unprotected with only light vegetation visible. Several long tire ruts scar the crest near the spillway. A small area characterized by swamplike vegetation is located about 350 to 375 feet from the right abutment along the downstream embankment toe. Seepage was observed at the downstream embankment toe near the outlet conduit flowing at a rate of about two to three gpm. The flow is suspected of being either seepage through the embankment foundation, or perhaps drainage from a concealed toe drain. A precise assessment of the condition is difficult without adequate design data are drawings.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Paupackan Dam NDI I D Number PA 00140 DER I D Number 64 33 Delaware River Basin Lakeville Creek Wayne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Paupackan Dam NDI I D Number PA 00140 DER I D Number 64 33 Delaware River Basin Lakeville Creek Wayne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by GANNETT FLEMING CORDDRY AND CARPENTER INC HARRISBURG PA. and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on available records, visual inspection, calculations, and past operational performance, Lake Paupackan Dam is judged to be in fair condition. Considering the size and hazard classification of the dam, the recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) varies between the 1/2 Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the PMF. The 1/2 PMF was, in this case, selected as the SDF. The spillway and reservoir, under existing conditions, will pass approximately 19 percent of the PMF before overtopping of the dam occurs. The spillway is, therefore, rated as inadequate.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Greeley Dam NDI I D Number PA 00752 PennDER I D Number 52 20 Delaware River Basin Taylortown Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Greeley Dam NDI I D Number PA 00752 PennDER I D Number 52 20 Delaware River Basin Taylortown Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a visual inspection, operational history, and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, the dam is considered to be in fair condition. The size classification of the facility is small and its hazard classification is considered to be high. In accordance with the recommended guidelines, the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the facility ranges between the 1/2 PMF (probable Maximum Flood) and the PMF. Since the facility is classified near the upper bounds of the small category with regard to available storage capacity, the SDF is considered to be the PMF. Results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate that under existing conditions the facility will pass and/or store only about 17 percent of the PMF prior to embankment overtopping at the low area adjacent the left abutment. If the low area were regraded to the design top of dam, the spillway system would then pass about 28 percent of the PMF prior to embankment overtopping. Under existing conditions, spillway discharges are controlled by the existence of a township-owned roadway embankment and culvert that is situated about 100 feet downstream of the spillway weir.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Mountain Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00546 DER ID Number 40 50 Delaware River Basin Meadow Run Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Mountain Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00546 DER ID Number 40 50 Delaware River Basin Meadow Run Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on criteria established for these studies, Mountain Lake Dam is judged to be unsafe, nonemergency, because the spillway capacity is seriously inadequate. The recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the size and hazard category of the dam varies between 1/2 of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the PMF. Based on the criteria and the downstream conditions, the selected SDF is the PMF. Based on existing conditions, the spillway will pass about 20 percent of the PMF before overtopping of the dam occurs. Failure of the dam would increase the hazard to loss of life downstream. If the dam were raised to its design elevation, the spillway would pass about 28 percent of the PMF. The spillway capacity would still be rated as seriously inadequate. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in poor condition. Lack of maintenance has caused the spillway to deteriorate to such an extent that it is on the verge of collapse. It is unlikely that the spillway could withstand any flood of significant duration. (Author).

Deficiencies observed during the field inspection are described, visible features are depicted in photographs.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Wild Acres Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00407 PennDER I D Number 52 65 Delaware River Basin Branch of Hornbecks Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Wild Acres Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00407 PennDER I D Number 52 65 Delaware River Basin Branch of Hornbecks Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wild Acres Lake Dam is located on a branch of Hornbecks Creek in Delaware Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania. The facility is an integral part of the surrounding development known as Wild Acres. The community is nestled in the mountains of Pike County less than five miles west of U.S. Route 209 which parallels the Delaware River in this area. Observations made during the visual inspection indicate the embankment and adjacent dike are in good condition. Heavy brush growth and small trees were observed along the embankment crest and upstream face. No evidence of seepage through the downstream embankment face, excess settlement, sloughing, erosion or animal burrows was encountered by the inspection team. Some rock slope protection has been displaced immediately adjacent the spillway right wingwall, leaving small bare areas on both the upstream and downstream embankment faces. The top of the concrete corewall exhibits excessive cracking and spalling along its entire length except for that portion associated with the dike along the right abutment which is in relatively good condition.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Quinn Dam NDI ID Number PA 00145 DER ID Number 64 43 Delaware River Basin Tributary of Middle Creek Wayne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Quinn Dam NDI ID Number PA 00145 DER ID Number 64 43 Delaware River Basin Tributary of Middle Creek Wayne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by CORPS OF ENGINEERS BALTIMORE MD BALTIMORE DISTRICT. and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The visual inspection and review of available design and construction information indicate that Lake Quinn Dam is in fair condition. Deficiencies noted during the inspection included the lack of functional drawdown facilities and minor seepage through the masonry near the right abutment. Based on the size and hazard classification of the dam, the recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) varies between 1/2 the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the PMF. The 1/2 PMF has been selected as the SDF due to the size of the dam and reservoir, and the downstream conditions. The hydrologic and hydraulic computations indicate that the combination of reservoir storage and spillway discharge capacity will pass only 3 percent of the PMF without overtopping the dam. Overtopping the dam could cause failure, which would lead to a significant increase in downstream loss of life and property damage. Therefore, the spillway for Lake Quinn Dam is considered to be seriously inadequate, and the dam is judged to be unsafe, non-emergency.
