Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Lehman Dam NDI Number PA 00341 DER Number 67 480 Susquehanna River Basin York County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Lehman Dam NDI Number PA 00341 DER Number 67 480 Susquehanna River Basin York County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Hendrik Jongsma and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the visual inspection, past performance and the available engineering data, the dam and its appurtenant structures appear to be in good condition. In accordance with the Corps of Engineers' evaluation guidelines, the size classification of this dam is intermediate and the hazard classification is high. These classifications indicate that the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) should be the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). The spillway capacity is adequate for passing 43 percent of the PMF peak inflow without overtopping the dam. The spillway, therefore, is considered to be inadequate, but not seriously inadequate. Some recommendations presented for immediate action by the owner are: (1) that measures shall be taken to provide an adequate spillway capacity, which shall include the raising of the embankment profile uniformly to at least its design crest elevation; (2) that the downstream toe and an area 20 feet beyond the toe be cleared on a regular basis of all brush, weeds and trees, permitting close observation of the seepage; and (3) that the slab joints in the spillway channel be filled with a joint material.

This book was released on 1981 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this inspection is to determine if the dam constitutes a hazard to human life and property. Based on the visual inspection, past performance and the available engineering data, the dam and its appurtenant structures appear to be in poor condition. In accordance with the Corps of Engineers' evaluation guidelines, the size classification of this dam is small, and the hazard classification is significant. These classifications indicate that the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) should be in the range of the 100-year flood to one-half the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). The recommended SDF for this structure is the 100-year flood. The spillway capacity is sufficient for passing the SDF peak inflow without overtopping the dam. The spillway, therefore, is considered to be adequate.

This book was released on 1981 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maple Lake Dam is an earthfill embankment 14.4 feet high and 283 feet long, excluding spillway. The emergency spillway is located at the left abutment, consisting of an earth channel having a trapezoidal cross section. The bottom width of the spillway at the reservoir outlet is 56 feet. A service spillway, consisting of a 12-inch riser pipe and an 8-inch diameter outlet pipe, is located approximately 100 feet from the right abutment. The outlet works was reported to consist of an 8-inch diameter asbestos cement pipe, extending upstream of the riser pipe to the reservoir and terminating with two sections of an 8-inch diameter vitrified clay pipe, having a concrete plug at the inlet. Based on visual inspection, the Maple Lake Dam is judged to be in good condition. Under the present conditions, the spillway will pass approximately 37 percent of the PMF. Should the top of the dam be restored to its design elevation, the spillway could pass the SDF without overtopping the dam.

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Kimberly Dam NDI Number PA 00949 DER Number 50 062 Susquehanna River Basin Perry County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by BERGER ASSOCIATES INC HARRISBURG PA. and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lake Kimberly Dam Location is Southwest Madison Township, Perry County U.S.G.S. Quadrangle - Andersonburg, Pa. The overall evaluation of the facilities indicates that Lake Kimberly Dam is in poor condition. The growth of trees, brush and weeds should be removed, and the upstream slope should be protected from wave action. The crest profile is irregular and should be brought to a uniform elevation higher than the emergency spillway elevation in order to prevent overtopping. The downstream slope should be repaired where the slough has occurred and where the outlet pipe has eroded the embankment. The outlet pipe should be extended beyond the downstream toe of the embankment, and a rock protected plunge pool should be constructed at the end of the outlet pipe.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Sophia Dam NDI ID PA 0078 DER ID 058 126 Susquehanna River Basin Tributary of Choconut Creek Susquehanna County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

This book was released on 1981 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake Sophia Dam consists of an earth embankment approximately 340 feet long with a maximum height of 29 feet from the downstream toe and a crest width of 9 feet. The upstream side of the dam is protected by a small amount of riprap and the downstream face is covered with grass. The flood discharge facilities for the dam consist of a concrete open-channel spillway located near the left abutment. The outlet facilities consist of a 12-inch-diamenter corrugated metal pipe extending through the embankment along the original streambed. Based on the evaluation of existing conditions, the condition of Lake Sophia Dam is considered to be unsafe/nonemergency due to seriously inadequate spillway capacity. The flood discharge capacity was evaluated according to to the recommended procedure and was found to pass approximately 15 percent of the PMF without overtopping the dam. Results of the breach analysis indicate that downstream damage would be significantly increased due to a dam failure.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Number 5 Dam NDI ID Number PA 00375 DER ID Number 35 22 Susquehanna River Basin Stafford Meadow Brook Lackawanna County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Number 5 Dam NDI ID Number PA 00375 DER ID Number 35 22 Susquehanna River Basin Stafford Meadow Brook Lackawanna County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Albert Charles Hooke and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations, and past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, No. 5 Dam is judged to be unsafe, nonemergency, because the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. The spillway can pass 29 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the dam. Failure of the dam would cause an increase hazard to loss of life downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition. The spillway gravity weir does not have any significant deviations from the guidelines for stability, since the toe pressure is well below the allowable. There is no evidence of instability on the embankment.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Brown s Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 516 DER ID Number 59 68 Arlington Brown Susquehanna River Basin Tributary West Branch Stony Fork Creek Tioga County Pennsylvania Phase 1 Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Brown s Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 516 DER ID Number 59 68 Arlington Brown Susquehanna River Basin Tributary West Branch Stony Fork Creek Tioga County Pennsylvania Phase 1 Inspection Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The assessment of Brown's Lake Dam is based upon visual observations made at the time of inspection, hydraulic and hydrologic computations and past operational performance. The inspection and review of data of the Brown's Lake Dam did not reveal any problems which would require emergency action. The dam appears to be in good condition and adequately maintained. Brown's Lake Dam is a high hazard-small size dam. The spillway design flood (SDF) for a dam of this size and classification is 1/2 PMF to the PMF. the PMF has been selected as the spillway design flood based on downstream potential for loss of life. The spillway and reservoir are capable of controlling the spillway design flood (PMF). Based on criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed adequate. The following recommendations and remedial measures should be instituted as soon as possible. (1) A regularly scheduled maintenance program should be developed and implemented. (2) A warning system should be developed to warn downstream residents of large spillway discharges or imminent failure of the dam. (3) A safety inspection program should be implemented with inspections at regular intervals by qualified personnel. (4) The drainline valve should be operated on a regular basis.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Henry Dam NDI ID Number PA 00366 DER ID Number 35 16 Susquehanna River Basin Lake Run Lackawanna County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Henry Dam NDI ID Number PA 00366 DER ID Number 35 16 Susquehanna River Basin Lake Run Lackawanna County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Albert Charles Hooke and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, Lake Henry Dam is judged to be in good condition. The existing spillway can pass 60 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the dam. The spillway capacity is rated as inadequate. If the embankments were raised 0.7 foot to their design elevation, the dam could pass the PMF with 0.05 foot of freeboard. The spillway capacity would then be rated as adequate. A low area between the two embankments acts as an auxiliary spillway. There is no stability analysis for the embankments. There is no evidence of significant problems threatening the embankments. The spillway weir is judged to be stable.
