Book The Politics of Economic Decline

Download or read book The Politics of Economic Decline written by James E. Alt and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1979-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book originally published in 1979, deals with popular perceptions and expectations of economic trends, popular preferences among economic policies, and the relationships between these and broader aspects of political behaviour like voting, attachment to the party system, and political and social attitudes. The economy has long been held to be a critical determinant of the ability of governments to gain election. This book provides unique evidence about popular expectations of inflation, evaluation of economic management, and preferences among competing economic goals and policies, without which the connection between economic management and electoral success cannot be understood. At the same time, by dealing extensively with electoral survey data for Britain since 1964, the book provides a contemporary history of electoral and political behaviour in an age of unprecedented economic management.

Book A New View of Economic Growth

Download or read book A New View of Economic Growth written by Maurice FitzGerald Scott and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a major new theory of economic growth. Orthodox theories explain both the level and growth of output by three main variables: employment, the capital stock, and technical progress. The new theory does not attempt to explain the level of output, only its change over a givenperiod, and so is more historical. The capital stock is not of central interest, and there is no separate rate of technical progress. The two main explanatory variables are the growth of employment and the rate of investment. As well as demolishing existing orthodox theories, the book demonstrates that the new theory can be used to explain why growth rates differ between different countries (mainly the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom) and periods, and why the shares of profits and wages differ. Verdoon'sand Fabricant's Laws relating to productivity growth in different industries; taxation; optimum growth; and the productivity slow-down after 1973 are also discussed.

Book European Yearbook Annuaire Europeen 1975

Download or read book European Yearbook Annuaire Europeen 1975 written by Council of Europe/Conseil de L'Europe and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 1977-10-01 with total page 936 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "European Yearbook" promotes the scientific study of nineteen European supranational organisations and the OECD. The series offers a detailed survey of the history, structure and yearly activities of each organisation and an up-to-date overview of the member states of each organisation. This special anniversary volume celebrates 60 years of publication of the Yearbook, and its contents differs from that of the regular volumes therefore. It offers a selection of the most important articles, dealing with European cooperation and integration, to appear in the Yearbook during its 60 years of publication. These are of particular interest not only because they provide a unique historical snapshot of the many successes (and occasional failures) in the field of European integration but also because they discuss the ideals and aims that lay behind these efforts, many of which still resonate today as Europe confronts questions about its political destiny and ideal shape. This volume contains articles in English and French."

Book Road Passenger Transport Road Goods Transport

Download or read book Road Passenger Transport Road Goods Transport written by D. L. Munby and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Road Passenger Transport: Road Goods Transport reviews sources of statistics on road passenger transport and the road transport of goods in Great Britain. Topics covered range from organization of passenger transport to main sources of data, along with regional statistics, modeling, and forecasts. Comprised of six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of inland transport on land in Great Britain, with the exception of railways. Varieties of passenger movement are considered, together with measurement of passenger transport. The discussion then turns to the organization of passenger transport, with emphasis on private movement and taxis as well as public road passenger transport. Main sources of statistics are presented, including the National Travel Survey; road censuses; vehicle registration and excise licensing; and annual reports of area licensing authorities. Data for pedestrians, bicycles, private cars, and motorcycles are also given. Examples of secondary analysis of available data are provided for purposes of modeling and forecasting. Papers on relevant theory, methodology, and statistical data requirements are also considered. This monograph will be of interest to both transport economists and environmentalists.
