Download or read book Complexity in Economic and Social Systems written by Stanisław Drożdż and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no term that better describes the essential features of human society than complexity. On various levels, from the decision-making processes of individuals, through to the interactions between individuals leading to the spontaneous formation of groups and social hierarchies, up to the collective, herding processes that reshape whole societies, all these features share the property of irreducibility, i.e., they require a holistic, multi-level approach formed by researchers from different disciplines. This Special Issue aims to collect research studies that, by exploiting the latest advances in physics, economics, complex networks, and data science, make a step towards understanding these economic and social systems. The majority of submissions are devoted to financial market analysis and modeling, including the stock and cryptocurrency markets in the COVID-19 pandemic, systemic risk quantification and control, wealth condensation, the innovation-related performance of companies, and more. Looking more at societies, there are papers that deal with regional development, land speculation, and the-fake news-fighting strategies, the issues which are of central interest in contemporary society. On top of this, one of the contributions proposes a new, improved complexity measure.
Download or read book Large Scale Inverse Problems and Quantification of Uncertainty written by Lorenz Biegler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-06-24 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on computational methods for large-scale statistical inverse problems and provides an introduction to statistical Bayesian and frequentist methodologies. Recent research advances for approximation methods are discussed, along with Kalman filtering methods and optimization-based approaches to solving inverse problems. The aim is to cross-fertilize the perspectives of researchers in the areas of data assimilation, statistics, large-scale optimization, applied and computational mathematics, high performance computing, and cutting-edge applications. The solution to large-scale inverse problems critically depends on methods to reduce computational cost. Recent research approaches tackle this challenge in a variety of different ways. Many of the computational frameworks highlighted in this book build upon state-of-the-art methods for simulation of the forward problem, such as, fast Partial Differential Equation (PDE) solvers, reduced-order models and emulators of the forward problem, stochastic spectral approximations, and ensemble-based approximations, as well as exploiting the machinery for large-scale deterministic optimization through adjoint and other sensitivity analysis methods. Key Features: Brings together the perspectives of researchers in areas of inverse problems and data assimilation. Assesses the current state-of-the-art and identify needs and opportunities for future research. Focuses on the computational methods used to analyze and simulate inverse problems. Written by leading experts of inverse problems and uncertainty quantification. Graduate students and researchers working in statistics, mathematics and engineering will benefit from this book.

Download or read book Quarterly National Accounts Manual written by Mr.Adriaan M. Bloem and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2001-05-10 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Manual provides guidance to compilers of national accounts on the concepts, data sources, and compilation methods required for development of a system of quarterly national accounts. More and more countries are recognizing that quarterly national accounts are an essential tool for management and analysis of their economy. The Manual is intended particularly for compilers who already have a knowledge of annual national accounting concepts and methods, and provides techniques for the development of a consistent time series of annual and quarterly accounts. It serves as acomplement to the System of National Accounts 1993, which has only a limited discussion of quarterly accounts, and will also prove useful as a tool for sophisticated users of quarterly national accounts.

This book was released on 2020-03-30 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of articles highlights the most interesting new results from the IX Moscow International Operations Research Conference, the largest Russian meeting in this field, held every three years for leading experts. These papers will interest researchers and organizations specialized in OR, Game Theory, System Analysis, Macro- and Micro-economic Modelling, and Actuarial Mathematics. The volume may be a source for PhD and Master students in the specified areas. The proposed methods for optimal decision making will be useful for insurance and auditing companies, banks, and others. The volume consists of three parts; the first includes game-theoretic models, the second part considers innovations and their possible opposite impact to the growth of GDP and social welfare, as well as new methods for improving reliability of banks’ credit risks, monopolistic competition under heterogeneous labor, interregional trade and different ways of developing the Russian banking system. The last part contains articles on a wide range of optimization problems and their applications.

Download or read book Inverse Problems in the Mathematical Sciences written by Charles W. Groetsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inverse problems are immensely important in modern science and technology. However, the broad mathematical issues raised by inverse problems receive scant attention in the university curriculum. This book aims to remedy this state of affairs by supplying an accessible introduction, at a modest mathematical level, to the alluring field of inverse problems. Many models of inverse problems from science and engineering are dealt with and nearly a hundred exercises, of varying difficulty, involving mathematical analysis, numerical treatment, or modelling of inverse problems, are provided. The main themes of the book are: causation problem modeled as integral equations; model identification problems, posed as coefficient determination problems in differential equations; the functional analytic framework for inverse problems; and a survey of the principal numerical methods for inverse problems. An extensive annotated bibliography furnishes leads on the history of inverse problems and a guide to the frontiers of current research.
