Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What mathematics should be learned by today's young people as well as tomorrow's workforce? On the Shoulders of Giants is a vision of richness of mathematics expressed in essays on change, dimension, quantity, shape, and uncertainty, each of which illustrate fundamental strands for school mathematics. These essays expand on the idea of mathematics as the language and science of patterns, allowing us to realize the importance of providing hands-on experience and the development of a curriculum that will enable students to apply their knowledge to diverse numerical problems.

Book Variations on a Theme by Kepler

Download or read book Variations on a Theme by Kepler written by Victor Guillemin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1990 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the Colloquium Lectures presented by Shlomo Sternberg in 1990. The authors delve into the mysterious role that groups, especially Lie groups, play in revealing the laws of nature by focusing on the familiar example of Kepler motion: the motion of a planet under the attraction of the sun according to Kepler's laws. Newton realized that Kepler's second law--that equal areas are swept out in equal times--has to do with the fact that the force is directed radially to the sun. Kepler's second law is really the assertion of the conservation of angular momentum, reflecting the rotational symmetry of the system about the origin of the force. In today's language, we would say that the group $O(3)$ (the orthogonal group in three dimensions) is responsible for Kepler's second law. By the end of the nineteenth century, the inverse square law of attraction was seen to have $O(4)$ symmetry (where $O(4)$ acts on a portion of the six-dimensional phase space of the planet). Even larger groups have since been found to be involved in Kepler motion. In quantum mechanics, the example of Kepler motion manifests itself as the hydrogen atom. Exploring this circle of ideas, the first part of the book was written with the general mathematical reader in mind. The remainder of the book is aimed at specialists. It begins with a demonstration that the Kepler problem and the hydrogen atom exhibit $O(4)$ symmetry and that the form of this symmetry determines the inverse square law in classical mechanics and the spectrum of the hydrogen atom in quantum mechanics. The space of regularized elliptical motions of the Kepler problem (also known as the Kepler manifold) plays a central role in this book. The last portion of the book studies the various cosmological models in this same conformal class (and having varying isometry groups) from the viewpoint of projective geometry. The computation of the hydrogen spectrum provides an illustration of the principle that enlarging the phase space can simplify the equations of motion in the classical setting and aid in the quantization problem in the quantum setting. The authors provide a short summary of the homological quantization of constraints and a list of recent applications to many interesting finite-dimensional settings. The book closes with an outline of Kostant's theory, in which a unitary representation is associated to the minimal nilpotent orbit of $SO(4,4)$ and in which electromagnetism and gravitation are unified in a Kaluza-Klein-type theory in six dimensions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the framework of the "Annee non lineaire" (the special nonlinear year) sponsored by the C.N.R.S. (the French National Center for Scien tific Research), a meeting was held in Paris in June 1988. It took place in the Conference Hall of the Ministere de la Recherche and had as an organizing theme the topic of "Variational Problems." Nonlinear analysis has been one of the leading themes in mathemat ical research for the past decade. The use of direct variational methods has been particularly successful in understanding problems arising from physics and geometry. The growth of nonlinear analysis is largely due to the wealth of ap plications from various domains of sciences and industrial applica tions. Most of the papers gathered in this volume have their origin in applications: from mechanics, the study of Hamiltonian systems, from physics, from the recent mathematical theory of liquid crystals, from geometry, relativity, etc. Clearly, no single volume could pretend to cover the whole scope of nonlinear variational problems. We have chosen to concentrate on three main aspects of these problems, organizing them roughly around the following topics: 1. Variational methods in partial differential equations in mathemat ical physics 2. Variational problems in geometry 3. Hamiltonian systems and related topics.

Book 2028 End

  • Author : Gabriel Erb

  • ISBN : 9781733210508
  • Pages : 120 pages

Download or read book 2028 End written by Gabriel Erb and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God created a game - it's called The Game of Life. Planet Earth is the playing field, the 10 love commandments are the rules, and we humans are the players who can win or lose. The game is played by two teams, like the game of football. One team's head coach is Jesus and the other team's head coach is Satan. All of us on earth are playing for one of these two teams! Gabriel Ansley Erb wrote the book "2028 END" in order to fully elucidate God's game clock scenario for The Game of Life as contained in the game's handbook, the Holy Bible. The handbook says, "God declared the end from the beginning" (Isaiah 46:10) by using 7 days in the creation event. Each 24 hour creation day foretold of a future 1,000 year period for a total 7,000 year plan God had for The Game of Life to be played on planet earth. And amazingly, to confirm this is all true, God hid a secret prophesy in each creation day foretelling the greatest event He had planned to occur in that day's future millennium!Consequently, Creation day 1 foretold Adam & Eve's fall, which was fulfilled during earth's 1st millennium. Creation day 2 foretold Noah's global flood, which was fulfilled during earth's 2nd millennium. Creation day 3 foretold Moses' Red Sea parting, which was fulfilled during earth's 3rd millennium. Creation day 4 foretold of John the Baptist & Jesus Christ, and so they lived and died during earth's 4th millennium. And the prophecies continue with each Creation day!Gabriel proves all of the above, carefully revealing the prophetic Scriptures as well as the fulfillment Scriptures. Then he reveals a dozen Scriptures proving Christ died earth's 4,000 year and will return earth's 6,000 year. Finally, he proves Christ died Feast of Passover AD 28 and will return Feast of Trumpets 2028. For those who read this book, it is an open and shut case: The Game of Life will end 2,000 years from the year of Christ's death on the cross - AD 2028.
