Book Monoclonal Gammopathies and the Kidney

Download or read book Monoclonal Gammopathies and the Kidney written by G. Touchard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The kidney involvement in monoclonal gammopathies is a fascinating field of research and of great concern to clinical practice. The book is divided into four parts. The first one is devoted to "the culprits" and includes contributions from leading investigators in B-cell proliferations, immunoglobulin synthesis, secretion and structure, light chain uptake and metabolism in the kidney. The second and third parts are devoted to "the victims": the tubule and the glomerulus. New insights into pathophysiology, clinical and histological features, treatment of renal lesions and therapy of B-cell proliferations are reported in myeloma cast nephropathy, Fanconi's syndrome, Randall-type monoclonal immunoglobulin deposition disease and non amyloid organized monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits. In the last part, immunoglobulinic amyloidosis is considered with a round table devoted to stem cell transplantation and new promising therapies in AL amyloidosis.

Book Aluminum and renal failure

    Book Details:
  • Author : M.E. de Broe
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9400918682
  • Pages : 347 pages

Download or read book Aluminum and renal failure written by M.E. de Broe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing the accumulation of aluminum in the bone (body) in cases of renal osteodystrophy may influence the histopathologic aspect of the bones. Alumi num blunts the effect of increased PTH secretion and favours the genesis of osteoid. That means, in cases of renal failure combined with aluminum accumulation, a relatively low bone tunover is found and no fibrosis of the bone marrow. Furthermore the amount of osteoid is increased. This means that there is evidence of osteomalacia especially when the latter is defined as an increased amount of osteoid covered with a relatively low number of cubic osteoblasts. To a certain extent the effect of aluminum accumulation is comparable to the effect of PTX. Treatment with DFO may normalize the bone, although not necessarily with a concomittant disappearance of alumi num from the bone. The presence of aluminum in the bone can be suggested by routine histologic investigation of the bone and can be made rather probably by the aluminum staining combined with iron-staining, but can only be proven by more advanced techniques like ET AAS and LAMMA. Book Recurrence of the Disease in the Renal Graft

Download or read book Recurrence of the Disease in the Renal Graft written by Pierre Cochat and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 2001-10 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a grafted part fails to take, it is usually because of acute or chronic rejection, either for strictly immunological reasons or because of failure to properly follow the immunosuppressive therapy. There are other reasons for loss of a transplant however, notably when the disease that led to a kidney transplant returns after the operation, something that happens in 5 to 15% of cases. This book aims to: Review the current state of knowledge and methods of care; Suggest therapeutic consensus, especially in cases of nephrotic syndrome, by using specific post-transplant treatment or preventive measures; Connect up the various practices concerning choice of donors; Spell out more clearly the approach to take when a first transplant fails and another is envisaged; Sponsored by the Mérieux Foundation and the work of leading international experts in the field, the book provides indispensable top-quality information.
