Book excerpt: Based on an esoteric interpretation of the Christian scriptures, this book provides a series of broad-minded considersations of the mysteries of Jesus, as indicated in the Collects of the orthodox church. Book Christian Mystics

Download or read book Christian Mystics written by Matthew Fox and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2011-02-08 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Matthew Fox notes, when an aging Albert Einstein was asked if he had any regrets, he replied, “I wish I had read more of the mystics earlier in my life.” The 365 writings in Christian Mystics represent a wide-ranging sampling of these readings for modern-day seekers of all faiths — or no faith. Fox is uniquely qualified to comment on these profound, sometimes startling, often denounced insights. In 1998, this longtime member of the Dominican Order was silenced by Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict, for his Creation Spirituality, an ecumenical teaching that embraces gender justice, social justice, and eco-justice. The daily readings he shares here speak to the sacredness of the earth, awe and gratitude, darkness and shadow, compassion and creativity, sacred sexuality, and peacemaking.

Written anonymously and published posthumously, as was the author’s wish, the intention of this work is for the reader to find a relationship with the author in the spiritual dimensions of existence. The author wanted not to be thought of as a personality who lived from 1900 to 1973, but as a friend who is communicating with us from beyond the boundaries of ordinary life. Using the 22 major arcana of the tarot deck as a means to explore some of humanity’s most penetrating spiritual questions, Meditations on the Tarot has attracted an unprecedented range of praise from across the spiritual spectrum.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evelyn Underhill's classic book on mysticism shows not only the historic development of Christian mysticism and its influence on the Church, but gives a deep insight into the spiritual growth of the individual mystics, their struggles, achievements and influence. Covering the whole development of the Christian Church from St. Paul to the present century, the author illustrates the differing backgrounds and approach of many of the great mystics such as St. Augustine of Hippo, whose writings helped to create the Church's understanding of its mystical character; and St. Francis of Assisi, whose example proved an inspiration to many. The book gives much more than an opportunity to "meet" the great mystics: it also provides a framework for the analysis of true mysticism and false, contrasting Catherine of Sienna, a girl of the people whose transcendental mysticism benefited many in an age of ecclesiastical degradation, with the well-born and beautiful Madame Guyon, whose excesses brought mysticism into disrepute. Evelyn Underhill illuminates the whole of her subject by drawing attention to the differences of approach that can bring mortals along the road to the divine, from the zealous militancy of a Loyola to the passivity of the Quietists. This absorbing study by one of the great writers on mysticism covers every aspect of the subject and gives a clear understanding of the mystics' world in writing that is both informative and stimulating.

Book The Mystical Qabalah

Download or read book The Mystical Qabalah written by Dion Fortune and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An occult classic and a Dion Fortune bestseller of strongly growing interest. Fortune was one of the first to bring this “secret tradition” to a wider audience with her clear and comprehensive exploration of the Qabalah tradition. The Mystical Qabalah remains a classic in its clarity, linking the broad elements of Jewish traditional thought—probably going back to the Babylonian captivity and beyond—with both Eastern and Western philosophy and later Christian insights. The Qabalah could be described as a confidential Judaic explanation of the paradox of “the Many and the One”—the complexity and diversity within a monotheistic unity. Whereas the Old Testament outlines the social and psychological development of a tightly knit “chosen group” culture, the supplementary Qabalah provides a detailed plan of the infrastructure behind the creative evolutionary process. The Mystical Qabalah devotes a chapter to each of the ten schematic “God-names,” the qualities or Sephiroth which focus on the principal archetypes behind evolving human activity: the Spiritual Source; the principles of Force and Form; Love and Justice; the Integrative principle or the Christ Force; Aesthetics and Logic; the dynamics of the Psyche; and, finally, the Manifestation of life on Earth in a physical body.

The Weismanns were a typical Montmartre from a tight-knit Jewish neighborhood. But on that fateful morning of July 16, 1942, this family and many others would face the worst horror imaginable when they, and 13,000 other Parisian Jews, were systematically arrested by French police, and corralled into a stadium under the orders of their Nazi occupiers. As the unsuspecting prisoners are prepared for deportation, a Jewish doctor (Reno) and a Protestant nurse (Laurent) attempt to provide adequate care for their patients while bearing witness to one of the most shameful atrocities ever committed by man. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Book Soul Exercises 1904 1924

Download or read book Soul Exercises 1904 1924 written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Collected Works of Rudolf Stei. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soul Exercises, 1903-1924 (CW 267) "The whole world stands facing the human soul--dark, unknown as the blue of the sky. But what is unknown comes. The human soul must feel this coming as its own extinguishing. Sensing this self-extinguishing is followed by the right to re-create oneself anew from the outer world that has been absorbed.... "I am 'I.'" Rudolf Steiner made it his task to teach nothing that he had not experienced himself and always encouraged others to make individual spiritual-meditative research the basis of their spiritual lives. Therefore he gave many spiritual exercises to his pupils who asked for them. This was especially the case during the period of the Esoteric School (1904-1914), which closed with the outbreak of World War I, which made a certain kind of esoteric work impossible. Steiner, however, continued to give individuals exercises and meditations in private conversations until 1924, when his health no longer allowed it. Usually he would write all instructions out by hand. A few were communicated verbally. Although every exercise originated in a particular context, he believed that because the same conditions apply to all who take up this path of training, in principle the exercises should be available in "the widest possible context." Beginning with general rules and conditions (the so-called supplementary exercises), meditations for the days of the week, and morning and evening exercises, Soul Exercises collects all of the word and symbol meditation exercises Steiner gave. This includes nine groups of exercises based on Mabel Collins' "Light on the Path" and a multitude of exercises with individually composed meditative verses. The book concludes with explanations and contextual commentary relating to the exercises, including notes on the value of symbolic ideas on the path of spiritual schooling; the Rose Cross meditation; the verse "More radiant than the Sun"; the backward review (Rückshau); contemplation of one's own divine ideal; and alcohol and diet. Soul Exercises will be a help to all who take up the anthroposophic path of inner work. Book Aspects of Occultism

Download or read book Aspects of Occultism written by Dion Fortune and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2000-10-01 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Dion Fortune wrote Aspects of Occultism, "occultism" was an umbrella word used to describe hidden lore, secret traditions, and arcane knowledge. Today, when the word "occult" is often confused for "cult," and all its negative aspects, Fortune's essays would be better referred to as "esoteric studies." In this book she discusses evocative magic, the sites of Druid worship, parallels between Christianity and the Qabalah, the astral plane, auras, spiritual healing, power cycles, and our relationship with the Higher Self. This revised edition includes a new introduction by Gareth Knight, an index, and an additional essay by Fortune-"The Myth of the Round Table." People familiar with Fortune's work will love this book!
