Book excerpt: Ever overhear a pre-teen or early teen conversation? It can be pretty dramatic -- in fact, young people and drama go together like... God and the Bible! If you're looking for quality material that draws middle school/junior high age young people into the scriptures, here's an invaluable resource. My Way Or Thy Way is a collection of twelve brief plays that bring familiar Bible stories to life in contemporary conversation that's easy to understand. By focusing on the choices made by the main characters -- and their consequences -- the scenes help young people make better choices in their own lives. "I want to do it my way, not thy way" was the struggle of these biblical personages, and many of us face similar issues today. Each skit lets participants "walk in the sandals" of ordinary people who faced extraordinary choices. Designed for versatility, these scenes can be given full dramatic performances with props, scenery, and costumes, or presented in readers' theater format for use as dynamic classroom discussion starters. Each drama is accompanied by questions and a variety of related activities. My Way Or Thy Way is an excellent supplement to a Sunday school, Bible school, or Bible study curriculum, and is especially useful for youth groups. These beautifully written skits are a perfect way for youth (and adults) to discover the teachings of the Bible. Pat Betteley has created a series of inventive and insightful pieces that encourage active participation from both performer and audience. What a great tool for a Sunday service or youth group meeting! Brint Learned Executive Director, Rabbit Run Community Arts Association Madison, Ohio In a world filled with choices, it's good to examine the choices of the "faith full." This book is filled with delectable skits and lots of ideas on how to use them in a variety of ways -- from the very theatrical to simple read-aloud discussion starters. The skits are filled with righteous puns and double entendres, putting a light touch on serious material. They make talking about making right choices fun and refreshing. Judy Astle Executive Director, Camp Henry Westminster Presbyterian Church Grand Rapids, Michigan Every Christian education director, children's coordinator, and Vacation Bible School director would benefit by having this collection. Book Spiritual Signs Along the Way

Download or read book Spiritual Signs Along the Way written by Robert Lane and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-12-20 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With God's direction, I have embarked upon a journey with a purpose, and that is to share the word of God in a way so that everyone can understand regardless of his or her status. I ask that as you go through its pages with me and that you will do so with an open mind, praying and looking up the scriptures given that I have not already provided. As fellow motorists, we are all aware that, to go on a road trip, it requires planning, and preparation, considering such things as packing, funds, vehicle readiness if driving, and the route. There are several modes of travel, but driving, to me, is the most rewarding because of sceneries, interaction with others, and to be able to stop at a restaurant, and enjoy good food and conversation. Some of the things that affect our travels are the road signs motorists come upon. Even though we have those physical signs to guide us, those signs can also be applied spiritually. I hope to show that it has always been God's plan to guide and direct man's steps. Any highway, road, or freeway that does not have signs to aid in traveling will not be a safe avenue in which to travel. Cities and states have mapped out their roads, and streets have various signage to make our motoring travels safer and less stressful. Now, come along with me on a wonderful journey into this book that will prepare us for the Christian journey, and may the Holy Spirit fill every void of misunderstanding God's holy word with clarity and revelation.

Download or read book How to Navigate Life written by Belle Liang, PhD and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2022-08-02 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential guide to tackling what students, families, and educators can do now to cut through stress and performance pressure, and find a path to purpose. Today’s college-bound kids are stressed, anxious, and navigating demands in their lives unimaginable to a previous generation. They’re performance machines, hitting the benchmarks they’re “supposed” to in order to reach the next tier of a relentless ladder. Then, their mental and physical exhaustion carries over right into first jobs. What have traditionally been considered the best years of life have become the beaten-down years of life. Belle Liang and Timothy Klein devote their careers both to counseling individual students and to cutting through the daily pressures to show a better way, a framework, and set of questions to find kids’ “true north”: what really turns them on in life, and how to harness the core qualities that reveal, allowing them to choose a course of study, a college, and a career. Even the gentlest parents and teachers tend to play into pervasive societal pressure for students to PERFORM. And when we take the foot off the gas, we beg the kids to just figure out what their PASSION is. Neither is a recipe for mental or physical health, or, ironically, for performance or passion. How to Navigate Life shows that successful human beings instead tap into their PURPOSE—the why behind the what and how. Best of all, purpose is a completely translatable quality to every aspect of life, from first jobs to last jobs and everything in between.

Book A Concordance of the Qur an

Download or read book A Concordance of the Qur an written by Hanna E. Kassis and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-11-03 with total page 1486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Foreword This Concordance of the Qur'an in English satisfies a paramount need of those—and there are millions of them—who have no command of the Arabic language and yet desire to understand the Qur'an. The benefit derivable from English translations of the Sacred Book is, in principle, limited because, first, the Qur'an is not a "book" but a collection of passages revealed to Muhammad over a period of about twenty-three years and, second, because the Qur'an is not really translatable. This does not mean that the Qur'an should not be translated. It does mean that translations lose much in tone and nuance, let alone the incommunicable beauty, grandeur, and grace of the original. . . . The main distinction of Hana Kassis's concordance, in my view, is that it utilizes the semantic structure of Arabic vocabulary itself in revealing the meaning of the Qur'an on any given issue, point or concept. A reader who looks in the index of this concordance for a word which he has encountered in reading an English translation of the Qur'an—the word pride, for example—is directed immediately to the roots of the Arabic, Qur'anic terms for pride. At tne entries for these Arabic roots, all the derivative forms are shown, and the verses of the Qur'an in which they appear are there listed in translation. . . . I am confident that any person who is sincerely interested in understanding the Qur'an and appreciating the nuances of its diction and shades of its meaning can satisfy his need more fully with this book than in any way short of developing a real command over the Arabic language itself. —Fazlur Rahman, Professor of Islamic Thought, University of Chicago
