This book was released on 2023-08-03 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a way of explaining life to her children and seeing the joy on their faces, LH Miller decided to put some of her stories in a book. She titled her book My Little Red Wagon of Children's Stories. These are stories like "I Saw You Today," where there was a young girl who had a conversation with God about the way she saw His work that day. There is "Cameron Finds a New Friend," about a city boy who moves to the country and finds a friend, a frog he names "Bumpy." "The Circus Comes to Town" is about a child who goes to the circus with her family for the first time and the excitement they experienced. "Exploring Crooks Island" tells of a family vacationing, boarding a pirate's ship, and waking up the next morning on Crooks Island--a pirate's island--where the excitement began. They called it the best vacation ever, with great fun at every turn. This book will keep your child's mind and imagination wondering and wanting more. The author hopes her stories give you the same joy and adventure they gave her family.

Download or read book The Story Time of the British Empire written by Sadhana Naithani and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2010-05-12 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Story-Time of the British Empire, author Sadhana Naithani examines folklore collections compiled by British colonial administrators, military men, missionaries, and women in the British colonies of Africa, Asia, and Australia between 1860 and 1950. Much of this work was accomplished in the context of colonial relations and done by non-folklorists, yet these oral narratives and poetic expressions of non-Europeans were transcribed, translated, published, and discussed internationally. Naithani analyzes the role of folklore scholarship in the construction of colonial cultural politics as well as in the conception of international folklore studies. Since most folklore scholarship and cultural history focuses exclusively on specific nations, there is little study of cross-cultural phenomena about empire and/or postcoloniality. Naithani argues that connecting cultural histories, especially in relation to previously colonized countries, is essential to understanding those countries' folklore, as these folk traditions result from both internal and European influence. The author also makes clear the role folklore and its study played in shaping intercultural perceptions that continue to exist in the academic and popular realms today. The Story-Time of the British Empire is a bold argument for a twenty-first-century vision of folklore studies that is international in scope and that understands folklore as a transnational entity.

Download or read book Story Time written by Bill T. Jones and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-07 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An autobiographical meditation on art from the world-renowned dancer and choreographer In this ceaselessly questioning book, acclaimed African American dancer, choreographer, and director Bill T. Jones reflects on his art and life as he describes the genesis of Story/Time, a recent dance work produced by his company and inspired by the modernist composer and performer John Cage. Presenting personally revealing stories, richly illustrated with striking color photographs of the work's original stage production, and featuring a beautiful, large-format design, the book is a work of art in itself. Like the dance work, Story/Time the book is filled with telling vignettes—about Jones’s childhood as part of a large, poor, Southern family that migrated to upstate New York; about his struggles to find a place for himself in a white-dominated dance world; and about his encounters with notable artists and musicians. In particular, Jones examines his ambivalent attraction to avant-garde modernism, which he finds liberating but also limiting in its disregard for audience response. As he strives to make his work more personal and broadly engaging, especially to an elusive African American audience, Jones—who is still drawn to the avant-garde—wrestles with questions of how an artist can remain true to himself while still caring about the popular reception of his work. A provocative meditation on the demands and rewards of artistic creation, Story/Time is an inspiring and enlightening portrait of the life and work of one of the great artists of our time.
