Book excerpt: "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You." Isaiah 26:3 "Perfect Peace!" That is what we all want. That, too, is what Christ offers us in his gospel. Among his farewell words we find this bequest: "Peace I leave with you my peace I give unto you." After his return from the grave, he said to his disciples, three times repeating the same benediction, "Peace be unto you." Peace is thus part of the blessed evangel, and an essential element of the true and full Christian life. Christ desires us to have peace. If we do not have it we have missed part of the blessing of being a Christian, part of our inheritance as children of God. It is not a peculiar privilege which is only for a favored few; it is for everyone who believes in Christ and will accept it. In this blessed text you will find the path of the Peace of Christ.

Book Peace Be Still

  • Author : Aimee Colbert

  • Release : 2013-04-10
  • ISBN : 9781484084861
  • Pages : 42 pages

Download or read book Peace Be Still written by Aimee Colbert and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-04-10 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I was younger, I used to pray that God change this one and that one so that I could be happy or have peace. Now, I know that God isn't going to change the world because I'm in it. He put ME here to make this world a better place to live in. It's not God's job to change people for me. It's MY job to be the change that's needed here. When I pray, I don't ask God to change people to accommodate me anymore because whether people want to live right or treat me well doesn't affect the peace, joy and contentment I feel inside. They can misbehave, curse me, lie on me, talk about me, be fake towards me, and attempt to hurt my feelings, it doesn't faze me. People are people and they will stay that way until kingdom comes. I have enough wisdom NOW that I know that I don't need the people I cross paths with to be good or be good TO me in order for me to be happy. There are people in this world, who have good and kind people around them, yet they STILL have no joy. Why? Because they have no inner peace. They choose to focus only on negative things and people instead of the positive. So you see, it's about what YOU decide to dwell on that will determine what level of joy you have and maintain. It's one thing to obtain it. It's another thing to MAINTAIN it.The peace I have is not by accident. Drama is something that I don't tolerate and anything that threatens my peace has to be removed or adjusted. I learned a while back that it doesn't matter what's going on in your life. Peace is maintainable and there is nothing on this earth more valuable than your peace of mind. I'd rather have peace than a man's approval, more money, false validation, materials, and power. Peace IS my power. The Bible doesn't tell us to pursue wealth. It says to pursue peace but by the look of things, you would assume that believers thought the opposite. That's why so many of them have no peace. Too busy pursuing wealth like the world; when truthfully, many who have wealth, have no peace. You're trying to get the money that the world has because you envy them (which God says not to do) and they secretly envy you because you are strong enough to serve the Lord and they're not. If you have no peace/contentment now, money won't matter because you'd still do what you always do, focus on negative things and people and covet the things you don't have. Wealth is not the definition of success. Peace is the definition if success. You're not successful if you have no peace. If that were the case, famous people would never take drugs and poor people would never sing praises to God. We are chasing the wrong thing. I've had no money at all. I've had more money than anyone in my family but through it all I maintained my peace. Peace is the real necessity. As you read this devotional, I want you to understand that peace is something that you have to take authority over and command. Peace is like a rebellious child. It wants to run away whenever you don't get your way but just like a parent has authority over their child, you have authority over your peace. You have to train your peace to “Be Still”, despite your circumstances. Many people assume that once they “arrive” they will have no more troubles. Unfortunately, whatever level you arise to, there will be a new problem there. There will never be a time in your life where in which you will have no problems or outgrow the need for God. You will always need God to fix something in your life. This is the reason why it's important to master peace early on in your walk with Christ. However, I have not seen this issue being a priority in many believers' lives until much later on after they've matured and have gone through significant struggles. There are Biblical ways to create and maintain your peace in life and I hope that the scriptures I reference within this book, aids you in living the life of peace that our Father has called you to live.

Book Peace They Say

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jay Nordlinger
  • Publisher : Encounter Books
  • Release : 2012-03-27
  • ISBN : 1594035997
  • Pages : 478 pages

Download or read book Peace They Say written by Jay Nordlinger and published by Encounter Books. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Jay Nordlinger gives a history of what the subtitle calls “the most famous and controversial prize in the world.” The Nobel Peace Prize, like the other Nobel prizes, began in 1901. So we have a neat, sweeping history of the 20th century, and about a decade beyond. The Nobel prize involves a first world war, a second world war, a cold war, a terror war, and more. It contends with many of the key issues of modern times, and of life itself. It also presents a parade of interesting people—more than a hundred laureates, not a dullard in the bunch. Some of these laureates have been historic statesmen, such as Roosevelt (Teddy) and Mandela. Some have been heroes or saints, such as Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa. Some belong in other categories—where would you place Arafat? Controversies also swirl around the awards to Kissinger, Gorbachev, Gore, and Obama, to name just a handful. Probably no figure in this book is more interesting than a non-laureate: Alfred Nobel, the Swedish scientist and entrepreneur who started the prizes. The book also addresses “missing laureates,” people who did not win the peace prize but might have, or should have (Gandhi?). Peace, They Say is enlightening and enriching, and sometimes even fun. It has its opinions, but it also provides what is necessary for readers to form their own opinions. What is peace, anyway? All these people who have been crowned “champions of peace,” and the world’s foremost—should they have been? Such is the stuff this book is made on.

Book My Peace I Leave With You

Download or read book My Peace I Leave With You written by Hillrey Dufner and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is a tumultuous place. Between wars and hunger, heartbreak and confusion, it can be difficult for Christians to understand and process the troubles we face in this life. But what if we have been looking at things with the wrong perspective? What would happen if we began to understand that Jesus does not provide peace from our troubles; rather, He provides peace as we go through our troubles? My Peace I Leave You by Dr. Hillrey Dufner is an inspiring book, which challenges our tightly-held notions of what peace is supposed to be with what peace actually is. Inspired by John 14:27, Dufner contrasts peace as defined by the world with God's definition of it, showing how Jesus's death and resurrection provide true and lasting peace for those who put their trust in Him. Come along on the journey, taking an in-depth look at what the Lord says about peace in His Word. From creation through the fall of man and on to Jesus's life and death, see how peace was lost and ultimately redeemed, and what that means for us today. Learn how to access the life-changing, never-ending peace that is available to all who seek it. Satisfied readers have said: "Studying this work has given me a new level of understanding and gratitude for His peace. I totally love Hillrey's joy in his creation story. Reading it again is a must for me." Mary McDonald "Reading this book has helped me tremendously with putting peace in my life. I plan to let Jesus help me focus on what is really important and let Him take care of the other stuff." Andrew Downing "This work sheds light on a subject not understood well, even among some of the most ardent followers of Jesus." Oran Isbell Dr. Hillrey Dufner is a family man married 52 years to Earlene, father of 6 very successful children, and grandfather of 9. He is a long-time educator retired after 43 years in various Texas public education positions from teacher to Executive Director of Secondary Education. He spent several years as an adjunct professor for several universities and one year as an education professor at York College in Nebraska. Book Seeking World Peace

Download or read book Seeking World Peace written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is currently great agitation and restlessness in the world. Small-scale wars have broken out in certain areas. Unfortunately, the superpowers have not been as successful as was anticipated in their efforts to establish peace in these conflict-hit regions. Globally, we find that almost every country is engaged in activities to either support, or oppose other countries; however, the requirements of justice are not being fulfilled. It is with regret that if we now observe the current circumstances of the world, we find that the foundation for another world war has already been laid. As so many countries, both large and small, have nuclear weapons, grudges and hostilities are increasing between nations. In such a predicament, the Third World War looms almost certainly before us. Such a war would surely involve atomic warfare; and therefore, we are witnessing the world head towards a terrifying destruction. If in the smaller countries conflicts cannot be resolved through politics or diplomacy, it will lead to new blocs and groupings to form in the world. This will be the precursor for the outbreak of a Third World War. Hence, I believe that now, rather than focusing on the progress of the world, it is more important and indeed essential, that we urgently increase our efforts to save the world from this destruction. There is an urgent need for mankind to recognize its One God, Who is our Creator, as this is the only guarantor for the survival of humanity; otherwise, the world will continue to rapidly head towards self-destruction. We can all help to achieve this by seeking the very attributes God. I have tried to outline these attributes in my book. These are as follows: love, joy and peace, which are all marks of true godliness. Love is for God and others; joy is much deeper than happiness; and peace is the consequence of being in a right relationship with God--one which doesn't depend on your circumstances. The second group, patience, kindness and goodness, deals with our attitudes towards others. Do we show patience when we are driving, are we kind to others especially when they are at fault, and what about goodness. The Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) went about doing good, but most of us just go about! The final four, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, and forgiveness deal with our inner attitudes. The faithful person can be relied upon to keep his or her word; the gentle person doesn't fly off the handle when provoked; self-control is not just keeping one's temper but also relates to other things. And last but not least forgiveness. I have come to realize that this attribute is not for the benefit of the offender, but rather for the wounded individual, as they then can once again have that inner peace that was nearly lost.

Book excerpt: Dawn Eden, internationally known speaker and author of the bestselling The Thrill of the Chaste, shows how the lives of the saints have given her hope and aided her journey of spiritual healing after childhood sexual abuse. One in four American women and one in six American men report having been sexually abused during childhood and My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds with the Help of the Saints provides a much-needed resource for spiritual healing from the isolating effects of these wounds. Eden uses her own story as a backdrop to introduce numerous holy people— like Laura Vicuña, Thomas Aquinas and Bernard of Clairvaux—who suffered sexual abuse or sexual inappropriateness, as well as saints such as Ignatius of Loyola who suffered other forms of mistreatment and abandonment. Readers seeking wholeness will discover saints with wounds like their own, whose stories bear witness to the transforming power of grace. Eden explores different dimensions of divine love—sheltering, compassionate, purifying, etc.—to help those sexually wounded in childhood understand their identity in the abiding love of Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advance Praise for A Shattered Peace "The peace settlements that followed World War I have recently come back into focus as one of the dominant factors shaping the modern world. The Balkans, the Middle East, Iraq, Turkey, and parts of Africa all owe their present-day problems, in part, to these negotiations. David Andelman brings it all back to life--the lofty ideals, the ugly compromises, the larger-than-life personalities who came to Paris in 1919. And he links that far-away diplomatic dance to present-day problems to illuminate our troubled times. A tremendous addition to this vitally important subject." --Ambassador Richard Holbrooke "The peace conference in Paris at the end of World War I was the first and last moment of pure hope for peace in the history of world affairs. Our president Woodrow Wilson was the sorcerer for this hope, and he kindled great expectations in people everywhere. David Andelman, a classic reporter and storyteller, tells this fascinating tale of hope falling finally and forever on the shoals of naivete and hard-headed cynicism." --Leslie H. Gelb, former columnist for the New York Times and President Emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations "The failed peace settlement following the Great War of 1914-1918 has been the subject of many fine books. In many respects, David Andelman's A Shattered Peace is the best of these. It is compact and compellingly written. Moreover, it explains more clearly than any other work how the failure of peacemaking in 1919 shaped later history and, indeed, shapes our own era." --Ernest R. May, Charles Warren Professor of American History, Harvard University "It is the power and fascination of David Andelman's new book, A Shattered Peace, that he shows us--with the clarity of a first-rate reporter and the drama and detail at the command of a first-rate novelist--that we are all still enmeshed in the loose ends of the Treaty of Versailles. Andelman brings us to Korea, to Vietnam, to the Persian Gulf, and to Iraq in our own vexed era. His story is alive with color, conflict, and interesting people. We could not find a better guide to this time." --Richard Snow, Editor in Chief, American Heritage

Book excerpt: The entire country followed the disappearances of three women who vanished from one of Washington, DC's popular neighborhoods. In 1999, a beautiful, young Justice Department attorney, Joyce Chiang, disppeared from the ominous streets of our Nation's Capitol. Three months later, Joyce's corpse was discovered in the murky waters of the Potomac River. The FBI and police were only able to theorize how Joyce died. Two years later, Chandra Levy disappeared a few blocks from where Joyce vanished. Joyce's murder is brought back into the spotlight, but an egomaniacal police chief discredits the case, blasphemously professing that Joyce committed suicide to discount the media's assertion that a serial killer was lurking. Joyce's brother, Roger, goes on the offensive to set the record straight. Despite the tragedy, author Roger J. Chiang learns a life lesson that is transformed into "My Peace I Offer You." Chiang evangelizes God's Commandment of love for neighbor and revives the lost virtue of brotherhood.

Book excerpt: This profound guidebook reframes and expands the mission of building a global culture of peace. Going far beyond conventional techniques of conflict resolution, James O’Dea provides a holistic approach to peace work, covering its oft-ignored cultural, spiritual, and scientific dimensions while providing guidance suitable even for those who have never considered themselves peacebuilders. O’Dea is unique in his ability to integrate personal experience in the world’s violent conflict zones with insights gathered from decades of work in social healing, human rights advocacy, and consciousness studies. Following in the footsteps of Gandhi and King, O’Dea keeps the dream of peace alive by teaching us how to dissolve old wounds and reconcile our differences. He strikes deep chords of optimism even as he shows us how to face the heart of darkness in conflict situations. His soulful but practical voice speaks universally to peace activists, mediators, negotiators, psychologists, educators, businesspeople, and clergy—and to everyday citizens.
