The word of mouth results, have been the product of years of experimentation done millenniums ago. When did grandma become the epitome of wisdom and experience? Well, we should go back millenniums, when it was the job of the oldest generation to take care of the youngest generation, while the adults generation in between went out to collect food, water and other basic necessities necessary for survival. The job of raising and training the children was left to those people who were most experienced. It is possibly this reason why the oldest and the youngest generations still find that they are more compatible and comfortable with each other, due to natural preference, instinctive selection and human psychological and social behavior. So the children of the tribe, group, gathering, and city were put in charge of the elders, who used to talk to them about their ancient traditions, talk to them by their own grandparents. The rules and regulations of living in society and getting to know one’s own place in the hierarchy of a tribe was thus transmitted from generation to generation through these elders. Grandpa trained the kids with tribal knowledge and physical exercise. Grandma was in charge of their overall emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. She was responsible for their health, well-being, food and other essential things necessary to keep children healthy and well-balanced members of the family and later on the tribe. …and that caring instinct still is present… That is why the matriarch – mother – was given the job of passing on the herbal knowledge to the girls in the family, preparing them to be future matriarchs taking care of their own families, as years went by. The boys were trained into becoming warriors, teachers, farmers, food gatherers or in other professions by the males of the tribe. So the lines were demarcated out very clearly in well-regulated times since ancient days. The house, home and hearth and other duties pertaining to a domestic nature was under the jurisdiction of the females. The land, the preservation, cultivation and protection of the area around it was under the jurisdiction of the males. So it was the man’s prerogative to be the hunter and the warrior, to feed and protect his family and tribe.

Download or read book Red Medicine written by Patrisia Gonzales and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patrisia Gonzales addresses "Red Medicine" as a system of healing that includes birthing practices, dreaming, and purification rites to re-establish personal and social equilibrium. The book explores Indigenous medicine across North America, with a special emphasis on how Indigenous knowledge has endured and persisted among peoples with a legacy to Mexico. Gonzales combines her lived experience in Red Medicine as an herbalist and traditional birth attendant ith in-depth research into oral traditions, storytelling, and the meanings of symbols to uncover how Indigenous knowledge endures over time. And she shows how this knowledge is now being reclaimed by Chicanos, Mexican Americans and Mexican Indigenous peoples. For Gonzales, a central guiding force in Red Medicine is the principal of regeneration as it is manifested in Spiderwoman. Dating to Pre-Columbian times, the Mesoamerican Weaver/Spiderwoman--the guardian of birth, medicine, and purification rites such as the Nahua sweat bath--exemplifies the interconnected process of rebalancing that transpires throughout life in mental, spiritual and physical manifestations. Gonzales also explains how dreaming is a form of diagnosing in traditional Indigenous medicine and how Indigenous concepts of the body provide insight into healing various kinds of trauma. Gonzales links pre-Columbian thought to contemporary healing practices by examining ancient symbols and their relation to current curative knowledges among Indigenous peoples. Red Medicine suggests that Indigenous healing systems can usefully point contemporary people back to ancestral teachings and help them reconnect to the dynamics of the natural world. Ê

Suspended from high school for fighting, Julia is attending summer school to graduate, in addition to anger-management sessions and staying under the radar of Alberta’s governing right-wing party’s Gender Appropriation Division. You would think that would be enough chaos in the teen’s life. However, a global terrorism attack on small-modular reactors by environmental group, Terra Nova, says otherwise. As nuclear facilities are compromised by a computer virus coined ‘The CurE’ in an attempt to reset the earth, Julia is pressed into action and rescues a bus load of passengers from explosions and earthquakes in the aftermath. As thousands flee contamination zones, the teen decides it’s the perfect time to come out as being transfluid. Fortunately, the pun-loving, quirky Christian Klassens embrace the new Jules. But it isn’t until they find sanctuary at the Church of the Holy Creator in the Piikani Nation of Southern Alberta, however, that Jules gets a taste of true belonging and healing, with the help of Two-Spirit friend, Todd, and Rev. Erin Stillwater. It isn’t long before Jules is once again forced into a maturity pressure cooker, as the Klassens join other ex-pats from Atlantic Canada on the Exodus Train in a resettlement lottery program. Along the way, the teen joins Todd and their little brother, Jake, in foiling poachers, rioters and their inner demons in this action-packed adventure that pits wits and will against extremism in the fight for humankind.

My dark captor claims to not want my blood…for himself. He’s the devil incarnate, but I can’t bring myself to completely despise him. Not when he tempts me so. Alec I vowed to wipe out the entire Sinclair coven after one of theirs took what mattered most to me. She’s all that’s left. Driven by centuries of hate and a long-standing vow, I strike the deal: sell her blood in exchange for her life. It should be simple, until fate intervenes. But then, fate no longer matters...not when my growing feelings toward her outweigh my vow. Cure Bound is the first book in The Witches’ Bind Trilogy. Cure Bound reads as a standalone, but the trilogy should be read in order due to the overarching series plot. Cure Bound is a dark vampire romance with content some readers may find triggering. Trigger warnings include dubious consent, explicit sexual content, kidnapping, physical violence, swearing, attempted rape, and death.
