Living life backward means taking the one thing in our future that is certain—death—and letting that inform our journey before we get there. Looking to the book of Ecclesiastes for wisdom, Living Life Backward was written to shake up our expectations and priorities for what it means to live "the good life." Considering the reality of death helps us pay attention to our limitations as human beings and receive life as a wondrous gift from God—freeing us to live wisely, generously, and faithfully for God's glory and the good of his world.

Download or read book Gifts and Calling written by Rev. Lloyd Crossfield and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered if you are gifted? Have you ever struggled with feelings of insecurity, thinking that you are not worth much? Have ever struggled with low self-esteem? Maybe you just need a reminder of who you are or who you can be? If you can identify with any of the statements above, then this book is for you. It is a personal perspective on Gifts and Calling. The book describes some personal accounts in the life of Pastor Lloyd, from childhood to present day. We can at times lack the confidence to be all that God has destined for us to be. We convince ourselves that we cannot achieve like others; sometimes even putting ourselves down. Our words can be more negative than positive, not remembering that words are life. This book tackles these struggles but recognises that with a shift in our thinking, life can be very different. We must not allow any situation to take away from the fact that we are called of God and we have gifts that are God-given. Accepting our calling and gifts, will lead to having peace in the face of life’s challenges and can propel us into greatness.

Download or read book What Your Heart Needs for the Hard Days written by Holley Gerth and published by Revell. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this uplifting book, Holley Gerth invites readers to sit down with her to be filled with the strength, peace, and joy that come from God's promises to us. Each of the 52 devotions based on the Psalms will help weary women remember that God is good and we're all in this together. Whether it's a bad hair day or a broken heart, Holley offers hope and encouragement to get us through whatever life brings. Women need that kind of encouragement because we all have hard days--days that make us want to give up, retreat inside ourselves, and drown our sorrows in a pint of ice cream. And while we may crave all sorts of things to ease the pain we feel in our hearts, what we really need is truth. We need to be confident in God's character and his promises. We need to remember--and celebrate--who he made us to be. And we need exactly the kind of encouragement Holley Gerth loves to offer.

Download or read book Be Encouraged written by Joan Meade and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God has a plan and a purpose for all our lives, but so often we are not aware of what our purpose is. We have been given different gifts to serve the Body of Christ yet don't know or understand what they are. The reason for this book is to help believers to not only know who they are in Christ, but for them to begin functioning in the many gifts they have been given to serve and help build up the Body of Christ. In this book are many stories of people like you and me who, when finding out what their gifts were, not only encouraged others and blessed them, but they experienced a new joy in serving the Lord. You may think you can't be used by God now for different reasons, but God says you can! In His strength you can do everything He calls you to do. When I think back on the many years of serving the Lord, thirty-nine, I am filled with joy and thanksgiving for His love, grace, and faithfulness to me and my husband. We have been blessed to be married sixty-one years and have five married children and eleven wonderful grandchildren. We have served the Lord faithfully wherever He has placed us. I have given numerous bible studies over the years to all age groups and ministered the love of the Lord and the Word of God in nursing homes; senior's centers; a homeless shelter; and gave Bible studies for senior's at a local college, in church and in our home. My greatest challenge was to write my first book a few years ago and then this book. I am truly a blessed woman.
