Book Five Amazing Men

Download or read book Five Amazing Men written by Charles ODonnell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2024-07-28 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not about the Rich and Famous. It is not about entertainment celebrities, political leaders, sports stars, or military heroes. It is about five ordinary men, who just happened to have the amazing abilities to inspire others and help people succeed through work habits, beliefs, and their experiences. Their stories are inspiring not because these men are famous, but because they are not famous. You probably know people just like them. They could be friends, neighbors, or even co-workers. We are surrounded by ordinary people who make us feel good, who genuinely appreciate our skills, or our knowledge and our friendship, which inspires us to do even more. I have written and published four previous books on various subjects, but my success in doing so was largely due to the influence these five men had on me. Each of them in their own way, added to the richness of these stories as well as my own. All of these men have since passed away, but their legacy should not be lost to time, but rather preserved for others to read about and appreciate. I wish I had written this book 30 years ago, but if I had, I probably would not have appreciated the values or wisdom they gave to me and countless others. I hope their descendants will come across this book and recognize that while their ancestors may have been likeable, they contributed to our society the one extraordinary talent they each possessed the ability to inspire others.

Download or read book The Red Earth written by Binh Tu Tran and published by Ohio University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phu Rieng was one of many French rubber plantations in colonial Vietnam; Tran Tu Binh was one of 17,606 laborers brought to work there in 1927, and his memoir is a straightforward, emotionally searing account of how one Vietnamese youth became involved in revolutionary politics. The connection between this early experience and later activities of the author becomes clear as we learn that Tran Tu Binh survived imprisonment on Con Son island to help engineer the general uprising in Hanoi in 1945. The Red Earth is the first of dozens of such works by veterans of the 1924–45 struggle in Vietnam to be published in English translation. It is important reading for all those interested in the many-faceted history of modern Vietnam and of communism in the non-Western world.

In 2015, the first three volumes of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories arrived, containing over 60 stories in the true traditional Canonical manner, revisiting Holmes and Watson in those days where it is “always 1895” . . . or a few decades on either side of that. That was the largest collection of new Holmes stories ever assembled, and originally planned to be a one-time event. But readers wanted more, and the contributors had more stories from Watson's Tin Dispatch Box, so the fun continued. Now, with the release of Parts XXXI, XXXII, and XXXIII, the series has grown to nearly 700 new Holmes adventures by over 200 contributors from around with world. Since the beginning, all contributor royalties have gone to the Undershaw school (formerly Stepping Stones) for special needs children at Undershaw, one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's former homes, and to date the project has raised nearly $100,000 for the school – as well as helping provide a world-wide awareness of its mission. As has become the tradition, this new collection of 61 adventures features Holmes and Watson carrying out their masterful investigations from the early days of their friendship in Baker Street to the post-War years during Holmes’s retirement. Along the way they are involved in dozens of fascinating mysteries, all progressing along completely unexpected lines. Join us as we return to Baker Street and discover more authentic adventures of Sherlock Holmes, described by the estimable Dr. Watson as “the best and wisest . . . whom I have ever known.” 61 new traditional Holmes adventures in three simultaneously published volumes The game is afoot! All royalties from this collection are being donated by the writers for the benefit of the preservation of Undershaw, one of the former homes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

From rural Alabama to the Louisiana bayou to the North Carolina mountains, World Fantasy and Bram Stoker Award–winning author Robert R. McCammon has made the American South his own Gothic playground in these four unforgettable novels. A Boy’s Life: “Strongly echoing the childhood-elegies of King and Bradbury, and every bit their equal,” McCammon’s World Fantasy and Bram Stoker Award–winning novel takes place in 1964 Alabama, where a twelve-year-old boy’s idyllic life takes an abrupt turn into a dark world of mystery when he and his father witness a car roll into a lake—only to discover a corpse handcuffed to the steering wheel (Kirkus Reviews). “It’s McCammon’s The Prince of Tides. . . . Incredibly moving.” —Peter Straub Mystery Walk: Two boys with mysterious powers—a psychic who speaks with the dead and a faith healer—share a common bond and hold mankind’s fate in their hands in an epic showdown of good versus evil. “As finely a turned tale of horror as the best of them.” —Houston Chronicle Gone South: A veteran’s moment of rage leads to a grisly murder and a heated chase deep into the bayou, where he encounters a pair of bizarre bounty hunters—and a strange new friend, who might help him find redemption. “A gothic picaresque that mixes gritty plot and black comedy.” —The Wall Street Journal Usher’s Passing: Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale, “The Fall of the House of Usher,” is no fiction in this Gothic novel of ancestral madness in the mountains of modern-day North Carolina, as the heir to the Usher legacy—a horror novelist—confronts his terrifying inheritance. “A frightening pleasure.” —St. Louis Dispatch
