Jerris dad warned her of her involvement in the gang: Darling, the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Dad, since you put it that way, this is my green, green grass, and I am going to enjoy it. But it was not long before Jerris green grass began to give her emotional diarrhea and involved cheating death. Follow Jerri as she relates her heart-rending story to her flatmate, Andrea. At the end of telling her story, Jerri said, “Well, Andrea, I am done.” “Jerri, if you were going to write your story, what title would you give to this part of it?” asked Andrea. “I know. The green grass situation has now been changed. But you are using the changed experience to teach important lessons. So, what happens when the green grass changes?” “It dries up and becomes hay. And the same sheep that wanted the green grass from over the fence can still eat the hay, only in a different form,” said Jerri. “There you go, girlfriend. You made hay . . . you could say, ‘I made hay while the sun was shining,” replied Andrea.

Book Blood Makes the Grass Grow Green

Download or read book Blood Makes the Grass Grow Green written by Johnny Rico and published by Presidio Press. This book was released on 2008-12-24 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outrageous, hilarious, and absolutely candid, Blood Makes the Grass Grow Green is Johnny Rico’s firsthand account of fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, a memoir that also reveals the universal truths about the madness of war. No one would have picked Johnny Rico for a soldier. The son of an aging hippie father, Johnny was overeducated and hostile to all authority. But when 9/11 happened, the twenty-six-year-old probation officer dropped everything to become an “infantry combat killer.” But if he’d thought that serving his country would be the kind of authentic experience a reader of The Catcher in the Rye would love, he quickly realized he had another thing coming. In Afghanistan he found himself living a Lord of the Flies existence among soldiers who feared civilian life more than they feared the Taliban–guys like Private Cox, a musical prodigy busy “planning his future poverty,” and Private Mulbeck, who didn’t know precisely which country he was in. Life in a combat zone meant carnage and courage–but it also meant tedious hours standing guard, punctuated with thoughtful arguments about whether Bea Arthur was still alive. Utterly uncensored and full of dark wit, Blood Makes the Grass Grow Green is a poignant, frightening, and heartfelt view of life in this and every man’s army.

Faced with multiple surgeries and chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she found herself questioning God, struggling with the possibility of death, and secretly wondering if she had done something to make God mad. Becky's brother John, a psychotherapist from Detroit, reconnected with her and began an e-mail campaign of support and encouragement. "Green Grass in the Junkyard" documents this correspondence. It is a powerful book that will help you enjoy each day, even when you feel that life is not going the way that you had hoped. Their journey through doubt, despair, hope, and faith serve as tremendous encouragement to those on a similar path-both cancer patients, and those who love them." - Christina S. Chu, M.D., Jordan Center for Gynecologic Cancer, University of Pennsylvania "Drs. Overholt and Canine have brought a great perspective, and a new one, to the complex subject of learning to live with, enduring, and then mastering the troubled times that the diagnosis of cancer can bring into the lives of patients and families. The undeniable value of faith, will, introspection, and most importantly, a loving sibling, is expressed masterfully in this book. We all have so much to learn; there is treasure here for those for whom illness has provoked a new quest for knowledge and peace." - Kevin R. Fox, M.D., MacDonald Professor of Medicine, Abramson Cancer Center, University of Pennsylvania

Download or read book Green green grass written by Anja Nicole Stuckenberger and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preface Working on an interpretation of the story of The Feeding of the Five Thousand in Marks gospel, I penciled down some ideas. When I reached the words green grass, I put my pencil down and leaned back. A gentle breeze blew away task and desk. The fresh meadow scent of an early summer eve caressed my nose and a friendly voice said, Come, sit down and eat with us. Before me, a small group of people picnicked on a blanket in lush grass, serving one another crispy bread and fried fish, peaches and all kinds of other delicacies. We all ate heartily and there was so much leftover that it would not fit into the original picnic basket! How could this be? I laid down on the blanket, blinked into the blue sky, and listened to happy childrens voices. I still wonder, so I wrote it all down for you. I hope that youll enjoy my poem and Ekaterinas drawings, whether you are wide awake leafing through the book or sleepily snuggled in your blanket traveling into the land of dreams. May summer be full of sweet and juicy peaches for you.

Book excerpt: 'A woven time-travelling book, about love, land, life ... Short stories that link together like trees in a forest' Jackie Morris On a clear Kentucky night in 1888, a young woman risks her life to save a stranger from a drunken mob. Almost a hundred years later, her great-grandson Andy climbs a hill at the edge of town, and is flooded with memories of all he has lived, seen and heard of the past century - of farmers wooing schoolteachers and soldiers trudging home from war; of the first motor car, the Great Depression and Vietnam; of neighbourly feuds and family secrets; of grief and betrayal - and of great friendship that endures for a lifetime. These are Wendell Berry's tales of Port William, a little farming community nestled deep in the Kentucky River valley. They unravel the story of a town over the course of four generations, lovingly chronicling the intertwined lives of the families who call it home. Affectionate, elegiac and wry, these uplifting rural fables invite us to witness the beauty and quiet heroism at the heart of each ordinary, interconnected life.
