This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As charismatic and gifted as he was volatile, Jimmy Martin recorded dozens of bluegrass classics and co-invented the high lonesome sound. Barbara Martin Stephens became involved with the King of Bluegrass at age seventeen. Don't Give your Heart to a Rambler tells the story of their often tumultuous life together. Barbara bore his children and took on a crucial job as his booking agent when the agent he was using failed to obtain show dates for the group. Female booking agents were non-existent at that time but she persevered and went on to become the first female booking agent on Music Row. She also endured years of physical and emotional abuse at Martin's hands. With courage and candor, Barbara tells of the suffering and traces the hard-won personal growth she found inside motherhood and her work. Her vivid account of Martin's explosive personality and torment over his exclusion from the Grand Ole Opry fill in the missing details on a career renowned for being stormy. Barbara also shares her own journey, one of good humor and proud achievements, and filled with fond and funny recollections of the music legends and ordinary people she met, befriended, and represented along the way. Straightforward and honest, Don't Give your Heart to a Rambler is a woman's story of the world of bluegrass and one of its most colorful, conflicted artists.

Did you lose your identity meandering down your life's path? In order to understand life, you must first understand its language. How long can you live not knowing who or what you are? How long can you meander through your life until you realize your truth? What will it take for you to become your truth?

Book Vignettes of Small Glories

Download or read book Vignettes of Small Glories written by Christine Scott and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2000-10-13 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real victories of our lives frequently can be found after the storms, in glimpses of small glories. In the midst of the storms of our lives, we often find mountains which appear impossible to climb. Many times we reach the top, only to discover there is yet a higher mountain to climb. Sometimes the rocks of despair and fear cause our steps to falter in defeat. In the dark of sleepless nights, we ask ourselves, What have I achieved? Where is the victory? Where is the joy? Frequently, the answers can be found to exist in the illusive and fragile moments of small glories. Away from the storm racked mountains, in the cool valleys of time, live the small glories. They echo forth in friendships, love, laughter, fantasy, and inspiration. Small glories are brief, high intensity moments of pure joy or an unexpected gift of insight in time of trouble. It is my belief that God sends these moments to us, over and over again, with HIS affirming touch. They are nurturing and vivid reminders to keep us on the pathway of life and increase our sense of direction. Some glories are humorous, some are subtle and sweet. Others, explode in a rush to rescue us from inevitable moments of darkness. It is imperative that we be aware and open to their arrival. Journey with me beyond the storms. Perhaps you will be reminded of a similar legacy of memories. Reach out to them and let them envelop you in the joy of intangible victories. Let the facets of truth warm your heart. Finally, let the legacy of small glories whisper the calm affirmation of hope. Interesting to Note: While researching for this book, the Author consulted with friends in the marketing field. Upon their advice, she decided to test market twelve readers on their reactions to the vignettes. Six of the readers were very secure in their faith and the other six were somewhat tough and cynical about religion, and had very little joy or hope in their attitudes. All twelve found that Vignettes of Small Glories had touched them in ways that they had not expected. The six that were more spiritual felt that it had offered religious values in a subtle way without preaching or using a lot of Bible quotes. Each found themselves sharing a tear or two in pain and joy. The six who were a tougher audience, were surprisingly more verbal and openly admitted that they shed a number of tears and laughter because the book gave them such a good feeling, deep in their hearts. One of them commented that she felt such a sense of victory at the end. Another felt as though she had: Taken a quiet walk on a stepping stone pathway, surrounded by vines and flowers and finally came to a small cottage. Once inside the cottage she felt welcome and loved. Her statement seemed to provide a kindred comfort level and a willingness to be led to a feeling of eventual serenity. The twelve readers opinions reinforced the Authors belief in the timing of the book. Various television networks are adding more spiritual awareness programs with stories about angels and faith in God. Many books are following a similar trend. In todays troubled times, joy is an exceptional event and hope has become a priority. People are anxious, and grasping for hope wherever they can find it. Although Vignettes of Small Glories is written mostly as an inspiration to women, men will also enjoy sharing it with their wives or partners. It is intended to touch readers, from teens to seniors, who may need a fragment of proof that there is a way to grasp for joy and ultimately receive the gift of hope. The Authors files contained over one hundred vignettes written throughout her lifetime. When death almost touched her own life twice, she began her search into the past for solutions in her faith, a

Book Sex and Shopping The Confessions of a Nice Jewish Girl

Download or read book Sex and Shopping The Confessions of a Nice Jewish Girl written by Judith Krantz and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2000-05-11 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Reader, As I was about to start my eleventh novel, I abruptly realized that I was making a huge mistake. On the verge of launching into the imagined world of a twenty-eight-year-old, I felt an intense need to tell another story, the story of a woman I know through and through...a woman with more wealth of experience, a woman who's seen more real glamour, known more fascinating people, lived in a world of more sophistication, and arrived at more hard-won maturity than that twenty-eight-year-old could hope for---in short, my own story. I've tried to remain as unknowable as possible, the better to let my heroines hold the stage, but now I was ready to tell the truth about myself, with no holding back. I've had a different life from that of the majority of women of my generation and background. While I seemed like another "nice Jewish girl," underneath that convenient cover I'd traveled my own, inner-directed path and had many a spicy and secret adventure. I grew up in a complicated tangle of privilege, family problems, and tormented teenaged sexuality. After a riotous education at Wellesley, my life was turned upside down by a glorious year in Paris, marked by an intense but ill-starred romance. I spent the next half-decade in New York, sowing lighthearted wild oats until I finally met my true love, to whom I've been married for forty-six years. When I was fifty I had an utterly unexpected, almost unbelievable success as a number-one bestselling novelist that has continued for book after book. Challenging, lucky, exciting, and often devastatingly askew, my life seems to have been lived under a wild and antic star. I've had as much amazing fun as my heroines, and here's the book to prove it. Judith Krantz

Book Life in the Country Through the Eyes of a Kid

Download or read book Life in the Country Through the Eyes of a Kid written by Ken Willingham and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many times, we talk about the good ole days but seldom can pinpoint just what and why they were. The stories and tales I have written straight from memory goes back to my childhood, beginning at age two, and proceeds through my sixteenth year. I promise you there is absolutely no fiction in these stories. Life on the farm was lived day by day, and nowhere in the universe could you be closer to God. You had to have complete faith, but at the same time, you had to believe in your mother and father as being your leaders, teachers, and protectors. This came about from being lucky enough to be born and raised as a country kid. Born the middle child of sharecropper parents, we lived in rental houses, many of which were close to a hundred years old. Most had no insulation; floors had cracks you could see light through and had single-pane windows that gave little or no protection against the cold. But in all cases, they were where we called home. The sound of wood snapping and popping in the cast iron stove let you know that you were safe and would remain warm throughout the many years and winters that were to come and many that had gone. My parents worked day and night to meet the needs of three children, and all our needs were met without compromise. It was our wants that made us become self-sufficient but never our needs. We did not have electricity in our farmhouse until I was almost twelve years old, so evenings were spent with family in front of a kerosene lamp, and going to bed early was the order of the day. The kids played outdoors the entire day when winter cold and summer heat was a part of our lives. We had chores to do, and working in the garden was expected as part of our entertainment. I cannot imagine how my life could have been any more perfect or my outlook on tomorrow could have been any stronger if I had been born and raised anywhere other than with my parents on the family farm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more years than most of todays population could possibly recall, I had been writing poems about my family, my own true adventure stories, and just about anything of interest to me, which has been just about anything! I had catalogued, shelved, boxed, and stored material throughout the years all the while that I had been experiencing the many facets of my more varied than some life. From the time that I was a little farm kid, the workings of nature and its wild faces had held intrigue to my mind. Consequently, by the time that I became old and bold enough to begin my own quest of adventure, I just plainly let it happen. Any opportunity to explore life and of things not yet known to me became open season for my whims. In those early years, I had managed to scribble down numerous discoveries that evolved as I waded through lifes happenings. Eventually, I had accumulated many written utterances and at first kept them in piles and eventually files. Through the urgings of family and friends, it has come to the point of sharing my writings of adventurous ramblings with others. But where should I start? The grab bag of writings that I have dealt from for this first widely published volume of mine, which I had decided to name Down Lifes Trail, for in many ways, it does reflect selections written by myself along the bumpy road of life. At the age of twenty-two, I had started out on my own after schooling for the profession as a photographer. This required traveling many miles, first within Maine then to other locations across the country, and involving aerial photos along with all others. I had recorded and kept records of many of the special locations that I had flown over or photographed, both in writings and photos. Now has come the time for me to pursue the publishing of some of my collections. I had promised to my local audience that had been reading my work over the years that I would indeed take a shot at publishing a book of poetry. My decision (right or wrong) is now to begin my offerings with this aptly named volume of Down Lifes Trail, for the following has been derived from short story poems written as I was tripping along lifes trail. Hopefully, you will read and enjoy the enclosed pages that have been randomly selected from the far reaching trail of my life.

Download or read book A Life on the Lines written by R H N Hardy and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During much of his early career, from 1944 through to the early 1960s, Richard Hardy took hundreds of pictures of life on the railways and the men he knew and worked with on a daily basis, using his trusty Brownie 620 box camera. These unique behind the scenes images form a fascinating and hugely evocative portrayal of Britain at the height of the era of steam, during the time of the 'Big Four', and after 1947 when the sprawling nationalised network known as British Railways came of age. The second edition contains many new unseen photos which capture the railways in wartime, providing a valuable social record of the nation at war. In addition there is a sequence of rare photographs of French engines, railways and railwaymen, offering a superb contrast to the British rail network (it quickly becomes evident that the British rail system ran on tea, whereas the French system ran on wine). Great characters are the unifying theme of the pictures, and they include famous figures associated with the railways, such as the poet John Betjeman. This wonderfully illustrated book sets Richard's personal photographs and text alongside a carefully collated selection of ephemera, artworks and photographs drawn from the National Railway Museum in York. Collectively these images and artefacts tell the stories of the great brotherhood of railwaymen, brilliantly evoking the speed, heat and dust of the footplate.
