Book My Cup Upset

Download or read book My Cup Upset written by Andy Fury and published by Andy Fury. This book was released on 2015-01-22 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August 2013, comedian Andy Fury decided that he'd spend a season with his best friend Mark, watching the FA Cup in a giant game of winner stays on. They would follow the winner from the Extra Preliminary Round tie between Tow Law Town and West Auckland, then the winner of the next game and so on, all the way to Wembley for the Final. By March 2014 they were threatening to sue each other having endured countless arguments and a 500-mile round trip for a game against Crawley that was abandoned with 15 minutes left. As well as the fights they encounter several former FA cup winners, embark on a mini crime spree on the way to a game at Everton and take in games in all four corners of the country. Including Crawley. Twice. The book also includes a foreword from Pavel Srnicek (yes, that Pavel Srnicek), due to Andy's obsession with 90s footballers and much, much more besides. Find out whether they made it to Wembley or the courts in this heart-warming tale of friendship, football and pointless drives to Crawley. For information on the forthcoming stand-up show inspired by the book, please visit www.andyfury.co.uk To access the podcasts mentioned in the book, plus extra blogs and photographs, please visit www.cuprunnings.com About The Author: Aside from his obsession with footballers from the 90s, Andy is an award-winning comedian by trade. Having appeared on various BBC radio shows too, the 32 year old Geordie has been telling knob jokes instead of getting a proper job for six years now. This project started life as a blog and a podcast and has finished as a book and a stand up show. Live dates for "My Cup Upset" will appear soon at www.andyfury.co.uk

Unexpectedly, he has become the guardian to the orphaned eighteen-year-old daughter of a business partner from America. Complicating matters is a secret clause in her father's will mandating she be married by age nineteen to secure her inheritance, as well as Gabriel's family shipping interests. When tragedy strikes yet again his precocious ward is forced to flee Boston and start a new life in London where she and her best friend prove less than cooperative in securing her a betrothal. Rosabelle Elizabeth Anderson is a tiny spitfire who possesses an unusual knack with animals and is comfortable with her endearingly eccentric behavior. Boston considered her their darling, but London's social strata within the ton are far less accepting. In midst of the husband hunting debacle she is mortified to discover a mutual attraction between she and her cantankerous guardian. The question is will the guardian succumb to temptation, or will secrets from their past tear them apart forever...

Book The Mad Professor

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rupert Schmitt
  • Publisher : iUniverse
  • Release : 2011-02
  • ISBN : 1450288405
  • Pages : 578 pages

Download or read book The Mad Professor written by Rupert Schmitt and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mad Professor is the story of one man's battle in the 1960-70's Pacific Northwest against institutionalized bureaucracy and the strangulating effects of academic politics. Leo Bauer is first encouraged and then destroyed by the academic machine. The novel is literary, not easy to pigeonhole. The Mad Professor is a divergent novel, a confession of sorts by a man subversive to the organizations governing his life while remaining committed in his dedication to the natural world of Wisconsin, Utah, and Washington whose natural history is contemplated and analyzed. Bureaucracy represented by a community college is explored through hallucinations, stream of consciousness and magical realism. While Leo Bauer searches for authenticity life hammers him and he suffers losses of his profession, wife, reputation and assets during the Vietnam era, the time of sex, drugs, rock and roll, oil crisis and recession. Despite the somber nature of his struggle the novel has a great deal of broad and satiric humor. Leo Bauer's fantasy world becomes wilder and wilder including his exploration of a huge DNA Helix, the prophecies of a lobotomized fellow teacher, and the Curriculum of Death in which students are bombed and attacked with strafing airplanes. This digressive narrative resists linearity. Leo Bauer commences life in Wisconsin where he experiences paradise among the lakes and forests. Throughout this man searches for authenticity in a culture of false values. Librarians and booksellers should classify it as community college satire.
